    Thanks for this video bud. This was great help to fix a problem that Ford should own. I checked on trying to get the switch and found out Ford only replaces the shifter. The quote I got for the part from them today was $485 and at least 1 week for delivery. I didn't even ask what labour would be (curious only). Re-adjusting the spring on the switch is a relatively painless fix and if it lasts for a few years before it happens again (& it will) I will fix it again. I would expect replacing the gear shifter would lead to the same result 2-3 years down the road anyway. Save your money, adjust the switch lever and replace the switch if needed. Great video and thanks again for helping us with the same issue. Fix was a few minutes after I got in there. Cheers!

    Well this was too easy! Largely in part to this great video!
    Our 13 Edge Sport has already had the entire shifter assembly replaced under warranty for this TSB issue back in 2015. Started happening again and of course not in warranty and they wanted to charge me to do the whole shift assembly again. Nope. Not paying your thousands just to have it happen again I'm sure 🙄 Ordered from Digikey (ordered 2 just to have a spare) part was delivered the next day, 24 bucks all in for two shipped. Took 30 min to do the replacement and done. No more STP message!
    Thank you!

    Today is Monday, September 21, 2020, I have watched your video about five times. I have the same problem with my car. You made the fix look easy.
    So I thought I’d give it a try, got all the tools together and no problem, had it done in 35 minutes and it’s working. Thank you for putting up this video you’ve saved me the dealership repair costs. Is yours still working?

    Thanks!! I replaced the part and it’s working great! This was so annoying and it’s now gone. One thing I found on mine (2013 Ford Edge Limited) is that there are 2 screws in front of the shifter, I had to remove both. Thanks again!

    Thanks for this.. I have had to replace this switch twice on my 2013 edge... the first one (replaced fall 2018) lasted about 4ish years... that one started acting up a few weeks ago... it got really annoying last week though (swapped today 3/1/23). I bought three of them thinking I would need to do this more than once. hah! Once you know the wiring sequence it's about a 30 min fix. good stuff. Thanks again!

    I just did this fix on my 2014 Edge. The only thing I'll add is look out for breaking trim tabs. You have to apply a lot of force (at least I did) to get the trim apart and I broke one tab. The other thing is there is a metal detente you have to remove from the old switch and reassemble on the new one. ALSO... the wire gauge is different on the new switch so a simple black tape fix won't last. I soldered the wires and heat shrink wrapped them.
    All in all a good hand holding video. The comments about the camera work are moot as the author describes everything quite well. If you find the video not informative enough, you just need to turn the volume up.

    This intermittent issue has been driving me nuts for awhile now. Keep getting a "tire pressure low" message on start-up too but that issue is for another day. lol. Thanks for the video. I don't have the skill level required to do the job myself but think I might contact my local Ford dealer to see if they'll install it for me if I supply the part. Thanks for the video, it's good knowing how long it should take so I don't get over-billed on labour. :)

    I got that message and the car wouldn't start until I used my code reader to clear the tranmission range sensor error messages. Once cleared the car started. However, I was working on the car and unplugged the Transmission Control Module and generated the P0705 and P0706 when I ran a diagnostic scan while the transmission was unplugged.

    • @tibbymat
      @tibbymat  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      J Biv that to me looks like the harness that this switch plugs into. I’m doubtful that this is the issue. It would be cheap enough to go the route in this video just to rule it out. It seems to be the most common one for sure. Good luck and let us know what you find!

    Camera work is not helpful. Basically, all we see is someone fumbling around in the center console and occasionally fishing up a tiny part. There's some little metal part that came off the old one and gets put on the new one, from about 11:25 to 12:00, and you never bother to close in on it or focus on it. When you do get it on the new switch and you hold it up, it's out of the shot. I think that might be the part missing on my 2013 Flex, since I found the switch on the shift assembly but I can't quite figure out how the bar engages the little push-button switch. When you do show it re-installed, it's quick, out of focus, and moving. The viewer would be fortunate to be able to figure out where the thing is in the shift assembly, much less how it's removed or reinserted.
    I say this not by way of criticism, but since you are obviously knowledgeable and trying to be helpful. However, if a person who isn't familiar with the layout of the shift assembly is watching this video, they aren't going to figure out much about how to repair their vehicle. Actually focusing the camera on the work you're doing, the screws you're removing, the parts in place and as you're working with them is the only way to really show people what you're doing here. Like this, you might as well be pulling a rabbit out of a hat.

    • @tibbymat
      @tibbymat  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Steve Florman if you need that amount of detail, this is not a diy for your skill level. I’m not a professional cameraman, I went out of my way to record this as a guide to help people. I also stated if you have questions to feel free to ask. Feel free to record your own install and capture all the detail I missed and upload it.

    • @bpmphoto
      @bpmphoto 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I went slow and made sure to match up what was existing. Sucks about your experience but for me it was the guidance and motivation I needed to DIY. Mostly it was just the disassembly of the centre console and how to start that whole process that I was concerned about. Obviously when doing a job the dealer wants a ton of money to do, on an expensive vehicle, its a risk to save that money and DIY. I would advise anyone doung this type of work to first see how it was installed and then reverse engineer it slowly and carefully. If you want a Ford tech training video on this install... maybe go work for Ford lol. I thought it was great for a regular joe (or Mathew) to put together.
