    A tip to hopefully help someone in the future. My MS250 wouldn't' start - had no spark. I took the ignition module out and there was gunk built up between the module and the magneto/flywheel. Cleaned it off and the saw runs again.

    That’s awesome thanks! Worked great! It’s actually the top of the cylinder head cooling fins not the engine block technically. 👍🏼👍🏼 Most of the time on a 250 it’s flooded. They flood super easy even sitting in the hot sun on a full tank will cause it. Also people should make sure the switch is in the run position to test for spark.

    Great tip! I've always just simply used a screwdriver to accomplish the same thing. I use that trick with any machine I'm working on to test the spark. Remove the spark, attach the coil to the back, hold the spark plug onto the side of a screwdriver and touch the tip of the screwdriver on the metal of the machine and crank away to verify spark. Then use a multimeter on the spark plug itself to verify good ground, and an ohms reading to check the resistor.

      You remove the cap spark plug you hold the wire of the coil close to the metal and you activate the rewind starter if spark occur change your spark plug if no spark check coil and ignition switch:)

    The defect of the ms250 is if it doesn’t start within a minute it floods. You need to remove the exhaust and let it air out with the piston high . Then reassemble. It will start . We used dozens of these over the years . Great saws for ground work with newbie ground guys u can’t climb with them though. They don’t like to be anything but horizontal ,

    The plastic shield is for winter use as it helps retain heat for the carb. Just remove it for use in warmer conditions. I like your spark test idea👍.

    • @joelsalmond1788
      @joelsalmond1788 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Actually removing it would be what you want for running in the winter, the position it was in when he pulled it out was for summer so the air intake isn't sucking hot air, for winter you flip it over and stick it in upside down so the engine can draw warm air from the cylinder head

      It seemed to be flooded. Here is what I did. 1. Put the choke on full open 2. Lock the chain brake 3 one hand on the throttle fully squeezed. 4. Pull on the starter core over and over and over until it starts. Took me about 20 pills. Do all this with the saw on the ground with your foot holding down the saw at the handle. I really did think it would work but sure enough it did. No problems since that day.

    So you replaced the plug and the coil and you said that didn't fix it, but you have good spark there. So what was the problem? Is it fixed now?

    • @RunBikeMike
      @RunBikeMike  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Turns out after replacing that I must have flooded it. I figured out how to start it when it is flooded and that worked. Now with the new plug and coil it starts up just fine.

  • @denisdenis2034

    LOL you have to do the test with a transparent bulb style tester to see the spark jump in the tool which has a very large gap. In your way you are too close and possible only when the spark plug is in the combustion chamber with the compression and the mixture possible that the spark does not occur.

      Naw, the dielectric strength of gas vapor + air is very close to just air. Especially with today's pollution. Agreed in the field in bright sun it would be hard to see, but in the shop easy peasy.

    Man my boss bought a new stilh 250 and I spent more time fixing it than cutting it will run fine for a little bit then it wont start seems like it's flooded out. Also pulling the cord is hard chain will also turn. Any ideas?

    Here is an easier way. Just get a scrap piece of insulated wire and put small gator clamps on each end to make a test wire, if u don't already have one made in your toolbox. Clip one end to the spark plug and clip the other end anywhere on the engine block that you can. Always take a little wire brush or sandpaper and clean off the spot on the engine where you are connecting the ground wire so you know that it's making a good connection.

      Why make/carry something new when you can use the tool that comes with the saw.

    Ms 250 floods so easely. Dont fill rhem up to high and then drive around with the saw. It will flood then even worse. Tank pressurises very easely. I think if the tank can be vented more effiecient it will do better.

    • @RunBikeMike
      @RunBikeMike  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      To quickly fix a flooded ms250. Set the choke to full open. Turn the chain break on. Pull the cords as many times as you can as you hold the trigger down. It will start after 5-10 pulls.

  • @joshb3526
    @joshb3526 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Next time your chainsaw won’t start and you still really want to use it, just try this simple hack. Use your little chainsaw tool and place it between the chain and bar up against the base of the chainsaw. This effectively will lock the chain in place. Next, just simply push and pull your chainsaw across the wood you’re wanting to cut. It takes longer, but eventually you’ll get better with practice. And you’ll look and feel like a badass using your chainsaw! I Love your videos, Mike. Next time you’re stumped let me know, I’m sure I’ll have a solution for you.
