I bought the Silverbac 3 or 4 years ago. I had been shopping around on the internet and settled on this. Mine doesn't have the 2 modes but I can upgrade for $130 dollars. What swayed me to getting this unit was the price and warranty. They ship for free. I live about 20 minutes from the factory/store so I just stopped in and bought it. They actually gave me more goodies because I picked it up. When I go there sometimes Mark has waited on me. Very nice guy. If you have a problem and call them chances are you will talk to Mark. Very good customer service. They also have a smaller unit called the chimp. If you like ceramic they have the kong. They just came out with a gas grill the primate. Prices are very good for their products. All I can say is I like my smoker. Very easy to maintain. Built well.
Glad to hear Marvin of your experience with the cooker and service! Good customer service seems harder to find nowadays. Enjoy our cooker. I have 3 more episodes on the Silverbac coming.
Hey harry great video I am currently looking at getting a pellet smoker, what technology does gorilla use insde cooking chamber? Fans? Or some proprietary ... Or unique Mechanical... And you make really good BBQ sauce!
I actually purchased a Silverbac based on your and many other reviews about 3 years ago. I’ve been happy with the smoker, no flame outs, all the mechanical parts are still working fine. My only complaint is the internal thermostat. This pellet smoker runs much hotter than it indicates. If I set the smoker temp at 225 a secondary probe placed at grill level consistently reads 50-70 degrees higher. I realized this after my first few cooks finished much quicker and the meat was a litter dry. This is true with the new wireless controller.
Easy fix. Just set it 50 degrees under what you want so if 275F is desired, keep the setting at 225F. Most of my pellet grills are a little off. Usually hotter than my set temps
Thanks for the video, Harry. I love my Silverbac! I had never heard of testing for even heating using tortillas, so I'm glad it passed the tortilla test!
Thank you Harry , the tortillas test for even heating is an awesome tip. I will be trying this method. I always appreciate your videos and the work you do teaching us viewers professional BBQ ! Happy Holidays and Blessings to you from Pa. fan !!
I have had my Silverback for over a year and live in Michigan. With the double wall construction, I can cook year round without having to put a blanket on it.
Harry.. My Silverbac Alpha is ready for auger check… burn in… the Spatchcock chicken.. dry brined. Are there a couple pellet brands you like for flavor, low ash, burn etc. I use a sifter so all good there. Thanks much. Your vids helped make up my mind.
Somehow I missed your videos a year ago on this Grilla Grills. I was pretty busy with work about a year ago. Very happy to see you cooking Grilla!!! I first bought a silver back when they first came out with them. I’ve ran a lot of family dinners through that smoker! About a year ago I picked up their OG model it seems to give a little bit smoke your flavor I ordered it with the older alpha controller because I feel that I do not need all the high tech stuff. I don’t even have Wi-Fi at my house. I’m not a tech guy. A run Smoke Ring Pellets through my Grills . Absolutely love, my. Grilla’s!!!! there are a lot of bang for your buck if you look at the gauge of steel and quality of build. I’ve cooked six pork butts at 21° below zero the thing performed very well in cold weather!!! Without the use of blanks!!! it’s in another league above Traeger and pit boss type big box store smokers. Unless you purchase a Traeger that is over $1200 you’re wasting your time. I even owned a Grilla chimp. I had the gorilla chimp on a job site and the foreman told me that I wasn’t going home with the chimp. He liked it so well, he paid me for it and brought it home to his house. that’s when I purchased the OG. I still miss my chimp!!! Hopefully someday they build a suitcase style tailgate pellet cooker . The chimp was a little heavy for me to transport by myself add 100 pounds when it was full of pellets.
Soo Sifu: Hoping you have a great Sunday! Thanks to Grilla Grills, Riley, and you, for helping to present a great demo of the grill! Looks like a good grill from your demo! Looking forward to seeing your future cooks! Hope Mr. Beans got a nice taste of the first cook! Best wishes to you, your ohana and Riley! Much 🧧, Sifu!
Harry, I own this smoker and absolutely love it. In my opinion I find using this grill in mode 2 vs mode 1. It does provide a bit more smoke. I'm sure you will put this grill to the test, and im looking forward to part 2.
I have thought hard about buying this cooker but stopped from going thru w the purchase. Thanks for the video Harry. Also enjoyed your Spitts & Pitts video.
Hi Harry, Before the lid gets too dirty. I suggest installing a strip of felt gasket material. I couldn't tell you if it really helps with temperature control. I did it to keep greasy smoke inside and help the grill around the lid stay cleaner. I've been cooking with a Grilla Chinp for past five months and I love the little guy!
How exactly does the modes really work on Grilla Grills - I have just started looking for a Pellet Grill and I had heard Grilla was the best brand to go with...
@@stenny1970 Mode 1 works like most every other pellet grill. It keeps the temperature pretty constant, and allows you to do things like jerky and baking. Mode 2 allows for more temperature swing, so the cooker produces more smoke. Most everything I cook is on Mode 2 with Hickory pellets. Excellent smoke flavor. Makes for killer pork butts, ribs, burnt ends, just about everything. Look at Grilla Grills here on TH-cam.
Hey Harry… I love your channel and been trying some of your recipes on a Webber. I’d like a pellet smoker for steak and would like to start doing brisket. What’s your absolute favorite pellet smoker? Thank you in advance
I have 2 Smokefire and 2 GMG Jim Bowies and love them. There are many good pits like Pitts & Spitts, Grilla, Z-Grill, and others. Remember, it's always the pitmaster and never the pit - Harry Soo
Nice presentation Harry. I might be in the market for a Kamado or Pellet Smoker grill this winter. To purchase one I will need to part with my Weber Performa grill. I look forward to part 2 and after you do a few cooks a small comparison to the Weber pellet grill. Keep the content coming Harry.
I like the idea of the pans to help with cleaning. Does that interrupt the air flow though for the cooking? I'm a newbie with all of this! Thanks for the awesome video. I just set up my Silverbac yesterday.
Great review, looking forward to part 2. I just ordered the Silverbac a few days ago. During November Grilla had a promotion where you got 2 20 lb bags of pellets, 2 spice rubs and a bottle of bbq sauce with the Silverbac but I think that ended Nov 30. Also, they are developing a WiFi controller that you’ll be able to run from an app on your phone but it’s not yet ready for distribution. Current owners will be able to purchase the WiFi controller at a reduced cost when it’s available.
Thanks for the info Wayne! I have 3 more episodes including pork steak, comp brisket, comp SCA steak. They are on Patreon.com/HarrySoo for few more weeks before they appear on TH-cam.
Thank you Sir for the detailed review. I'm very excited to learn how to properly smoke meats, chicken and fish meals. Hoping to learn more from you and others. Do you have any recommendations for books or other videos ??? Thanks once again, much appreciated.
Great content Harry, very happy to see this type of video on a wood pellet I've been following for years now 😀. I have a question about the foiling process for meats while smoking, especially for pork ribs. Is there a difference between individually wrapping each rack of ribs as opposed to putting multiple racks in an aluminum foil pan sealed with aluminum foil? Thank you as always for great content
Yes there is a difference as individual wrap means you can check for perfect tenderness before pulling. When we cook catering, we put 12 racks in a large pan and cook them all falling-off-the-bone.
Hi Harry, Have you had any leaking issues using the Silverbac when cooking a A8-9 Wagyu from the Butcher Shoppe? I haven't had my grill for very long and only have cooked 3 briskets on it. all wagyu...Each time I get a oil leak on the hopper side. I am starting to think there is no way around this leaking as the Brisket is just super moist and lets out so much moisture. I am going to try a prime brisket and see what happens... Thanks so much for your videos, they have helped me and motivated me! You are the best Man!
Harry, I’ve been looking at pellet grills vs the Masterbuilt 1050 vertical charcoal grill. Do you have any experience with the vertical charcoal smokers? I like the idea of limiting the fuels I purchase. I’ve had a Weber kettle for years, I always have charcoal and a variety of wood chunks for smoke flavor, and it seems it would be a pain with many pellet grills changing pellets, and storing different pellets?
One test I would like to see is how grills compare in terms of efficiency of pellet use. Would be interesting to do a test like heat a unit of water with and compare how many pellets were used. Also to cook a comparable cut of meat - same weight - and see how many pellets were used. I wonder, for example, does the double wall help pellets last longer? (Or maybe since you care more about the smoke, it does not matter..?)
You must be a scientist or product tester by trade? :-) You need a lot of pellet grills and a lot of effort to run such tests. I live in SoCal so the double wall effect, I suspect, is not a big factor!
Hi Harry ... been watching you for a bit now and am subbed, my question is I'm torn between this and a GMG Daniel Boone ... please help me make my decision.
Don't get G-A-S which is Gear Acquisition Syndrome. Any pit can create great barbecue. As you have heard me say many times - It's always the Pitmaster and never the pit - Harry Soo
Looking into this grill and interesting with the hot spot test. I also noticed that the heat/hot spots are were on the edges where the foil pans did not cover the bottom. Do you think having the extra pan underneath may cause uneven heat distribution?
I have a Grilla Grill Chimp and a cheap Smoke Hollow from Bi-Mart. I enjoy using both for their own benefits. Chimp is efficient on pellets and great taste, but the 19 pound brisket hung over the drip tray. I cooked on Smoke Hollow grill for 8 hours to shrink the brisket then moved over to the Chimp after I wrapped it. 👌 Smoke Hollow has the real-estate for party size cooks. Anyways, I loved the thought of the Weber Smokefire and was excited for it. Then it came out and had some problems and I was bummed. Have the said "bugs" been fixed if there was a problem? Would a Silverback be a safer investment? I'm undecided.

Thanks Harry. Good overview of an interesting grill. I am in the market now for a pellet grill and this was helpful. One question, what size foil pans were you using to fit under the grate.
Yes they are standard size half foil pans like the ones from Costco or Sams. I found some half height ones from Restaurant Depot that are cheaper so I use the half height ones from now on as no need to spend more on foil pans that you throw away

How is the quality of construction? Is it hefty or flimsy? I know they use stainless in some areas where it counts. How about square foot space? Looks a little small in the video.
had a gmg daniel boone for years, never, ever had a problem with that smoker. my son in law is currently enjoying it. bought the silverback a year ago because the gmg would not fit the stand in the outdoor kitchen i purchased from grilla. so far 2 successful/uneventful cooks on it to date, has gone out during the cook twice, caught fire twice and the wifi has never worked. willing to trade it and 600 bucks for a new gmg daniel boone
Sorry to hear Bill. I have several GMG and they are very reliable and trouble free. My Silverbac did not have issues but I don't have them as long as my GMG so only time will tell.
@@SlapYoDaddyBBQ agreed, no argument there.. But some make it easier to get good results than others. I'll take your lack of endorsement of this smoker as a positive for the gmg, for better or for worse. Cheers mate!
Great Video Harry I'm glad you got this pellet grill, I have had my eye on these, I've been more of a charcoal fan Weber kettle, weber Smokey mountain. I'm interested on how it holds up and ease of use, nothing like an igniter going bad in the middle of cook or auger problems. It seems like they ironed Out problems with smoke fire but that is at a different price point. At this price point I think this wins, the accessories are not too expensive, and very functional Front table drip package and rub holder. The one that really is amazing is the multi rack that is used for making jerky. Since I don't have a y tube channel I would like to minimize the amount of cookers. Congradulations looking forward to content you create with the Gorilla Grillz Silverback. Let us know how the Granmaster of Q stores his pellets.
Hey John, I live is SoCal which is a desert so I leave my pellets in the bag in my backyard as don't have rain or humidity! The Silverbac is a solid unit and performer in the dozen cooks I've done on it. There are three more Silverbac videos on my patreon.com/HarrySoo site on on comp brisket, comp SCA steak, and pork steak.
Hey little griller, who do you want to be like when you grow up? Harry the Magnificent! Who? Harry Soo? Oh I’m afraid I can’t make you Harry but if you practice at your craft and cook with your heart he will be proud. Peace love and Q!!!!
I think it will affect the draft or convection current so may make the heating more even. I did not have any issues with uneven heating in my Silverbac
How do you like your silverbac so far? I just got a pit boss about a month ago and thinking about switching to a silverbac already, I’ve had a few issues already with my pit boss.
@@SlapYoDaddyBBQ Works great for me. I did remove the second shelf that came with it. Made many briskets for work on it, with employees loving it. And it's just like you say, it's not the tools, its the person.
You read my mind, reminds me of my Z-grill (that I paid $350 for). A little primitive by todays standards (searing capability and WiFI), but a good little cooker!
Welcome to Grilla Family! I have had my Grilla Chimp for a little over a year now. I live in Wisconsin and mine sits outide with the cover from Grilla and have had no issues. I cook on it all winter, as low as temps in the teens and it cooks as well as when it is 90 outside. They keep teassing us all with an updated wifi control panel to retro fit all their grills, hope to see it soon.
For anyone thinking about Grilla, read the Amazon reviews, these are crap. They do not hold temps. I didn't know that, just received my grill and it will swing from 40-60 degrees above set temp for no reason. Don't waste your money. Customer service keeps telling me try new pellets, I think the controller is junk. Why didn't I buy the RecTeq like I planned to do, I got suckered by a sale, but I regret this purchase.
Wow I think you were correct in calling it "primitive". You can get a Camp Chef for the same price with a WiFi controller and advanced smoke settings. Thanks for the great video, Harry.
Extra electronic gadgets doesn't make it a better grill. There are other differences that make the Grilla stand out. I would rather have thicker steel on the body and lid of the grill than wifi capabilities. Here's a page that highlights some differences between Grilla and others. grillagrills.com/traeger-rectec/?Google&Brand-Search-Geo_US&Home_Brand&gclid=CjwKCAiA8Jf-BRB-EiwAWDtEGh54KI4m7ABos7QSjSPu4lpQ4wb5g9fp7rd_1S4IsY7xXsOx29hT-RoCrWYQAvD_BwE I don't work for them or anything. @@SlapYoDaddyBBQ Really enjoy your videos. I have worked in the pellet fuel / Cooking pellet industry for 23 years and have Produced pellets for some of the major companies out there. Could say I know some secret wood blends LOL :)
@@SlapYoDaddyBBQ Probably like the Lumber Jack, and Cookin Pellets for them being 100% what wood they are advertised as. It's weird. My smokefire never has the white billowy smoke on start up. Pretty much thin blue from the go.
Yes I have two EX6s
@@SlapYoDaddyBBQ instead of bottle openers, the Smokefires come with little fire extinguishers
Look at a Rec Teq
That's a lot of trophies Harry.... well deserved.
Thanks Carl. Sharing what I know before I kick the bucket!

Doggie wanted to lick the drippings from the bucket. Glad you liked my grill. I hope part 2 is smoking something low and slow! :)
Hey Jaime, three more Silverbac episodes coming soon on TH-cam which I know you will enjoy! I posted Silverbac videos on Pork Steak, Comp Brisket, Comp SCA Ribeye for my patrons on Patreon.com/HarrySoo.

Greetings Albert from New Mexico. Beautiful state and love your roasted Hatch Chili. I've competed in New Mexico in Albuquerque! www.slapyodaddybbq.com/2010/06/2010-new-mexico-state-championship-bbq-cookoff-isleta-lakes/
@@SlapYoDaddyBBQ yes the roasted green Chile is the best in Hatch... if you ever come down here try the Green Chile cheeseburger from Valley Cafe or Arrey cafe... 👍🏾
Another Great Video Brother
Much appreciated
My Chimp had wiring problems and kept tripping the gfci it’s being replaced. I’m afraid the gfci will still be a problem will see....
Try another outlet on a different circuit
How is the quality of construction? Is it hefty or flimsy? I know they use stainless in some areas where it counts. How about square foot space? Looks a little small in the video.
Here is helpful info provided by other commenters on my video

Stout unit nice welds. Heavy duty. Every unit is tested before it leaves the factory.
had a gmg daniel boone for years, never, ever had a problem with that smoker. my son in law is currently enjoying it. bought the silverback a year ago because the gmg would not fit the stand in the outdoor kitchen i purchased from grilla. so far 2 successful/uneventful cooks on it to date, has gone out during the cook twice, caught fire twice and the wifi has never worked. willing to trade it and 600 bucks for a new gmg daniel boone
Sorry to hear Bill. I have several GMG and they are very reliable and trouble free. My Silverbac did not have issues but I don't have them as long as my GMG so only time will tell.
First impressions... How does it compare to your gmg? I'm in the market and was down to the gmg, but curious how you feel between the two.
most pellet grills work well and the outcome is determined by the skill of the pitmaster.
It seems like they ironed
Out problems with smoke fire but that is at a different price point.
Did you give Riley a piece of chicken for helping you?
No way. He got a whole half tray of ribs and chicken! My helpers and their families eat well!
@@SlapYoDaddyBBQ I need to be you neighbor. I enjoy your videos, I've learned a lot!
Hey little griller, who do you want to be like when you grow up? Harry the Magnificent! Who? Harry Soo? Oh I’m afraid I can’t make you Harry but if you practice at your craft and cook with your heart he will be proud. Peace love and Q!!!!
Peace, love and Q!
Does adjusting the smoke cap help with making the heat more even?
I think it will affect the draft or convection current so may make the heating more even. I did not have any issues with uneven heating in my Silverbac
Good thing you had your mask on while assembling *eye roll *
How do you like your silverbac so far? I just got a pit boss about a month ago and thinking about switching to a silverbac already, I’ve had a few issues already with my pit boss.
It's good! I recommend it
How does it compare to the Rec Tec 580?
Sorry, I don't know as I have not cooked on an RT
We ended up buying the Smokin brothers Premier Plus 30
Reminds me of my ZGrill. Size, design, etc. Only the controller is manual knob on mine.
From the pictures they seem alike. I like the Silverbac hefty grates, second shelf, and stainless lid and pellet cover
Anything design sent overseas for production will get copied in thinner materials and sold with a different name.
Didn’t see enough of the real star of the show....Mr. Beans!
Rod, he needs his own channel!
@@SlapYoDaddyBBQ I'd subscribe to his channel too!
Looking good brutha
Thanks!
Sounds great Curtis!

I don't work for them or anything. I have a Silverbac and love it. It is a quality-built grill/smoker.
LOL....
"advanced" smoke settings lmao. Yeah okay.
Simple is good if it gets the job done
Too expensive.
For about $500 pellet cooker, it does an excellent job. Of course, the Kettle is less expensive. Remember, it's always the Pitmaster and never the Pit
Spend another 400 bucks for a RT-700
Hey Jim, thanks for stopping by. Seems the Silverback competes in the $750 price bracket. There are options at this price range grillagrills.com/traeger-rectec/
@@SlapYoDaddyBBQ Really enjoy your videos. I have worked in the pellet fuel / Cooking pellet industry for 23 years and have Produced pellets for some of the major companies out there. Could say I know some secret wood blends LOL :)
@@jimsonnenburg7440 You are DA PELLET MAN! What is your favorite? I like GMG Gold Blend as a good overall pellet fuel
@@SlapYoDaddyBBQ Probably like the Lumber Jack, and Cookin Pellets for them being 100% what wood they are advertised as. So many companies use a lot of filler woods and very low % of actual flavors they are calling their pellets. I understand this on some flavors of wood which could be over powering such as mesquite . GMG pellets are good and I use them a lot since they are available for me locally and I am no longer in the pellet industry.
