      Knowing about something ahead of time isn’t the problem, we’d just have a giant suspicious roller coaster and building in the back of tomorrowland for multiple years that isn’t announced, it would still take this damn long just with no hype for the last four years or so

      Disney hypes up an attraction too early on so people have higher expectations. Universal keeps quiet and let people speculate for the majority and just watch it progress. When it's nearly done then that's when they hype it up.

      When I visited in 2019 they had sent the engines off to Pennsylvania for refurbishment. I'm sure they were trying to have them done and back by the time WDW turned 50 but the pandemic put a damper on that. The cast member at the railroad station DID let me walk around the cars in ways you normally aren't allowed to do, which was awesome, and even spent quite a bit of time talking about the technical aspects of the cars, the engine, and the railroad itself. That was a whole lot of fun, and kind of a unique thing that you wouldn't normally be able to do during a Disney visit.

    I noticed that pretty much most new Disney rides, not just TRON, are taking longer to build than they used to. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind was also announced in 2017, and still won't open until this Summer. And unlike TRON and Ratatouille, there are no earlier incarnations with supposed exclusivity contracts. Meanwhile, Universal was able to construct both Hagrid's and the VelociCoaster within much shorter timeframes.

    • @BAM5636
      @BAM5636 3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      I mean yeah, the upcoming rides are taking longer. Not sure why that comes as a suprise. They lost a year of construction and now are dealing with staffing and material shortages. Universal is in the same boat as super mario land was pushed back in the US until maybe 2025 now. It stinks but expected. Not sure why some are trying to make this a bigger suprise then it is at this point but I guess that is what people online do.

    • @GBJames776
      @GBJames776 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@BAM5636Epic universe was pushed back to 2025 which was close to original schedule anyway. Super mario land is in epic universe. Universal building whole park therefore obviously it was going to be pushed back. Disney building one attraction

    • @thethemeparkproblem77
      @thethemeparkproblem77 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Cosmic Rewind however not only is going to be a first of its kind coaster, but also part of the delay is because the show scenes where delayed in filming due to the 3rd movie starting production late, which from what I’ve heard was the main reason for the opening getting pushed back

    • @BAM5636
      @BAM5636 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Jonathan Pal It isn't going to be until 2025 now. Sorry. It was put on hiatus in 2020 and the original schedule now it has resumed is not realistic. They have only down scene work ground level
      They have not built up anything really yet
      If you think they are opening in 2023, well, that is extremely wishful thinking. Also, universal should care a bit more about nostalgia to be honest. I actually love both but it is universal that has slipped a bit ride wise for me, not really Disney. Hagrids is a awesome coaster though as long as it stays running. Seems to be a bit better now after the first year or so.

      @eclipsehorse8693 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@rebeccaheuer3255 Points and idea are valid. however what a lot of ppl seem to forget is the footprint of the attraction- Tron is massive, and there's just now way it would have fit in EPCOT given the area. Cosmic Rewind while a big attraction doesn't take up nearly as much real estate as Tron would have. In addition, putting Cosmic Rewind where it is, allows Disney to utilize the former Universe of Energy show building and saves them the cost of ripping it completely out. Guardians is a good fit for that section of EPCOT and I think it will do fine-
      I can't see it squeezed into Hollywood Studios and competing with Rockin Rollercoaster or Galaxy's Edge. The whole idea behind putting Guardians where it is is to lure ppl to EPCOT to begin with.

    Why do I have the feeling the quality of Disney Parks (Disneyland and Tokyo Disney being one of the few exceptions) have deteriorated; the more corporate focuses on $$$, appeasing special groups (which dangles $$$ in a company’s face) and IP (which is cheaper in terms of ideas), the parks won’t be worth $$$ or what Walt envisioned. One of the secrets to Walt’s success was that he did not care about appeasing; he did what he wanted, went with his gut and it paid off. Mind you, the atmosphere was more receptive to Walt and his creativity. I seriously wonder if Walt would be welcomed today by the public. If Disney continues in the current trajectory, you’ll see other parks like Universal, King’s Island or even Holiday World have increased attendance. So much of my armchair imagineering (although, being an honorary imagineer would be pretty incredible).
    However, if anyone should be deemed an honorary one, It’s Dallin. He’s met Crump and Baxter and his ideas are feasible while respecting the classics. Am I the only one who sees this?

    • @patrickdaly5988
      @patrickdaly5988 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The quality of WDW has been sliding since 2001. It’s only now with so little left to cut that people are beginning to notice it. Eg This was a park that used to have a maintenance crew whose sole job was replacing lightbulbs when they reached 80% of expected life. Remember four full time custodians at all times per restroom location? The list is endless and it all started as an emergency cuts over 20 years ago… and then they realised they didn’t have to put it back.

They just stated on their earnings call that they're working overtime to make up for lost time. And Universal NEVER talks about timelines. So the fact that they're already giving it a ballpark opening timeline means they're serious about it. (& yes, I know Disney has far & away the lion's share of Orlando theme park visitors, but Universal has been on a hot streak for years & doesn't seem to be slowing down any time soon, while Disney, well....)

    I'm gonna go out on a limb here...
    Disney World Railroad open @ late May early June 2022 at the latest.
    TRON open before October 31st 2022!
    Just a wild guess. (But I took a screenshot of it as a precaution!)

    I have been a TRON fan since I saw the InfoWorld edition that had the photos from the upcoming movie (yes, a computer magazine in 1982). Well, ok, all of my fellow computer geeks at the small county DP department I worked at were. I even loved that lame video game they had. Sigh. So to finally get on the grid, well, that would just be plain cool.

    What's your opinion about the old Rocket Rod track above Tomorrowland in Disneyland, and the rumors long ago how it was supposed to be a Tron ride? I feel like no one else talks about it (Tron: Legacy is also a favorite movie of mine, so I understood the hype)!!

  • @Locoboy5150
    @Locoboy5150 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Thank you for the video. I want to kind of put the brakes on a little tiny bit. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being enthusiastic about any theme/amusement park ride, especially a new Disney theme park ride, but in this particular case I would strongly suggest not getting too overly excited about Tron Light Cycle Run. In my book it is nowhere near worthy of the massive pre-opening overhype that Walt Disney World fans are giving it and if you fall for the overhype you might be massively disappointed in it. If you stand back and look at it, this is a cloned Vekoma Booster Bike coaster. Now, that may be your cup of tea if you like that type of roller coaster but no matter how you look at Tron Light Cycle Run, it is basically a cloned roller coaster with no changes (that anyone knows about) aside from its location.
    I don't know if you have ridden Tron Light Cycle Power Run at Shanghai Disneyland but I have several times during the park's opening year and though it was a fun roller coaster it was far from mind blowing to be honest. It is not a coaster that I'd wait more than 30 minutes for and thankfully it was only about a five minute wait every time that I rode it. (I rode it about three or four times total.) This is just one guy's opinion but despite what Bob Chapek said in his introductory presentation that was shown in this video, Tron was most definitely not the most popular attraction at Shanghai Disneyland. Based on my experience over several days at the park, the most popular attraction there by far was Soaring Over The Horizon and it was not even close. The most popular attraction amongst myself and my family was Pirates Of the Caribbean: Battle For The Sunken Treasure and that was not even close. By the end of each day that I was at Shanghai Disneyland, every major attraction was a walk on except for Soaring and my family and I kept riding Pirates Of the Caribbean over and over. I could have easily ridden Tron again but I had no urge to do so since, though it was a fun ride, it just was not all that great in my opinion - unlike Pirates. (In my book, Pirates Of The Caribbean: Battle For The Sunken Treasure is THE reason to visit Shanghai Disneyland, attractions-wise...no doubt about it.) Tron was not the most popular attraction at Shanghai Disneyland based on my visits, not by any stretch of the imagination. The idea that Bob Chapek possibly doesn't know about ride popularity at Shanghai Disneyland does not really surprise me at all.
    Now, I will admit that I am both a life-long Disney theme park fan and roller coaster enthusiast so my perspective admittedly might be out there in left field compared to everyone else so please take what I say here with a grain of salt. It's just my opinion and nothing more and as always your mileage may vary. It's just that I really didn't know much about Tron Light Cycle Power Run before actually riding it aside from the fact that it was a Booster Bike coaster from Vekoma themed to the newer Tron film. Even though the ride was not hyped up much at all in my mind, it still did not blow me away. It sure was fun but it was not mind blowing and certainly not worthy of a fraction of the over-hype that Walt Disney World fans are now giving to the clone one being built. On the other hand, I did know all about Pirates Of The Caribbean: Battle For The Sunken Treasure way before I went to the park and that attraction still completely blew my mind and exceeded the hype.
    That's just my opinion though. It's admittedly hard not to get hyped up about any Disney theme park attraction even if it is just a cloned coaster from Vekoma, the company that built its reputation on the whole concept of standard roller coasters bought from a catalog. I just wanted to warn you and others that if you hype up Tron Light Cycle Run too much in your mind before it opens, you may be setting yourself up for a major disappointment after you do actually take a ride on it.
    Thank you for the video again and I look forward to hearing your opinions about Tron Light Cycle Run after you actually ride it.

    Lets just say historically when a Disney ride takes this long to build and hit with so many delays... they usually get downgraded if not canceled entirely. Tons of features and idea's were cut and possibly if it takes too long rebranded like the Submarines being turned into Finding Nemo.

    I'm honestly more excited for Cosmic Rewind as it way looks longer and better themed. Tron is themed wonderfully but it lacks thrill and it's only a one minute ride.

      I'm excited for Cosmic Rewind too, but I must say I was truly surprised how thrilling it was straddling a light cycle throughout this albeit short experience, much superior to pony express. For me the indoor queue portion and theme (especially at night) were done really well and hyped up my ride experience. Excited for both!

      @@hallking7441 Nah the issue with Epcot is that Tron is visually too similar to Test Track. However, it could possibly work in Future World with where Disney is currently trying to take it. But Epcot is a construction zone and that's a problem in and of itself and I unfortunately hope that the rides there get some TLC soon.

    Seriously though, I have no idea when it's going to open, I just know I'm excited for it when it does. I genuinely hope some of this delay time has been spent negotiating the music, because the Tron Legacy soundtrack remains one of my favorite soundtracks in all of movies to this day.
