You might like to have a look at Spear It animal episode 28 and look at what they did for their hard top which had lots of space fore a solar array and they included an extension for hoisting their dingey. You might like what they did and maybe make a version of that.
I wish I was in a position to help you guys but disability has kept me out of work for the past ten years and that's not going to change. That said, I love your channel and genuinely enjoy watching your beautiful family living life to the fullest. You might say I'm living vicariously through you. Keep the faith and you'll make it happen.
That seems like it was a hard video to make. Thanks for being real about the difficult financial side of the adventure. Also the new stereo sound on the intro is surprisingly great!
I think it’s real good of you to lay out what it really costs to live your life the way you do. This will benefit the people that are wondering what it cost. Your being straight up forward will greatly benefit those people. Your videos are awesome. The life you live is so amazing to 0:10 watch. Sara don’t be hurt by the keyboard warriors that only want to hurt the courageous TH-camrs. I love it when Lee gets you laughing Be Safe
Loved this video! Your difficulties on the financial side I think are shared by most cruisers that end up doing extensive refits. The biggest thing I have to say is "don't rush or skimp", your lives are to precious. Hoping the rest of the refit goes to plan and you get out chasing those waves soon.
Well done on making it this far. You guys are an inspiration to many out there that dream about sailing and living the adventure life. Look after yourself and thanks for keeping the smiles going.
This has to be one of my favourite watches on TH-cam, you guys do an absolutely amazing job and should be proud off yourselves, I sent you a little bit of money to say thank you for producing such good vids and hope it helps a tiny bit.
You guys are an inspiration.. My wife and I just bought a 42 foot gulfstar sailboat and you’re correct it takes a lot of money for a refit.. We have never sailed we live in Idaho the ocean is another animal. We want to sail to Mexico to refit our boat but we have children and etc etc.. we are a year away from starting.. Thank you very much for inspiring us to learn and start a new life..
You guys inspire me every day to continue working towards my own dream of sailing and living aboard my own boat. Keep doing what you do. And thank you for doing it! I share as many of your videos as my friends will watch
Love to see your family working together. Such a wonderful family! Thank you for all your efforts to make these wonderful videos. I really wish I could help you out.
Bravo for keeping going to the end. I am at the end of 5.5 years of refitting, and I am still working on projects. Getting out onto the mooring ball has been a huge step.
yep did it again, thanks for the smile guys I do enjoy the channel. I thought it was well done and informative and don't believe it was negative in any way. Missy and I were able to spend two more weeks on Zingaro for our anniversary again complete with boat jobs and can understand a little of the challenges but seen the rewards for it as well. Enjoy the way you guys explain the repairs and the life. Thanks for all the effort you put into the channel
Thanks glad you enjoy our videos and sounds like you appreciate the lifestyle too the challenges and the rewards cheers for the support and kind words 😃
DIY Surfboard/Dodger, e.g. what Spear It Animal did on ep.29 (can be done much cheaper), diy roll-down blinds. Need to stiffn posts for solid hand rails you'll put more body weight/reliance into, vs cautious with dyneema. Wood BBQ, plenty of free fuel on beaches, not reliant on gas.
Telling it like it is, not only set you free, but you build a lot of courage, because that what it takes to tell it like that, nothing is ever easy, but from this side you are the never endears "vasbyters" can't wait for the launch. Have a great week.
Positively love yalls channel. We've been watching forever. I love the fact that you don't edit all the struggles out. We hope to be on our boat by 2025. Hopefully we will run into you somewhere out there.
Your doing a great job keeping it reel as you know boat life is not all champange and roses keep your head up draw on some of your ausie get it done thinking and just keep swimming just keep swimming us in bris vagas are loving the jerney
LOL. If Sarah did OF, you guys would probably be sailing on a brand new 50 foot Catamaran lol. You guys crack me up, and I love it. I'm a long time watcher and have bought merch to help you guys out and even won a t-shirt, by answering a question right, on one episode lol .Love your channel, keep up the great work.
I have to say watching you guys is awesome i enjoy it so much, and i know sitting here telling you to stay happy and just let the stress go you prob just read and say well you have no clue what we go through. Well to tell you to let it go i spent 10 years military doing the worst of the worst retired broken with 5 crushed disks in my back 2 blown out knees and 1 rib completely gone out of my body left shoulder shattered but i still keep going life is to short to hold on to the neg, then to top it all off just found out the wife has stage 4 kidney cancer she is doing fine at the moment what i am trying to say is let it go enjoy it while you can !!
Hey guys, You might be interested in watching Sailing Tahiti, an Amel 54 cocked up, custom binimi and solid rail, maybe some ideas for you. Love your channel
What an awesome, honest video. You explained the costs of sailing to idiots (Me) it’s a reality check for us all. Probably your best episode yet. Thank you and much love to you and your family
Great Channel, I love your videos. If you get any negative comments I’m sure those were meant for me because those trolls know I’m watching since I only watch positive and informative families, just sluff it off and say, “that one is for Murphy”. lol
Love this ep, great to see where your up to & what's gonna happen 😊. It must be hard after all your efforts when people get online to make unpleasant comments ... don't forget that there must be something fundamentally wrong with people who take time out of their day to be terds!
G'day crew, love your Chanel, kirra has been cranking and Catalpa, s old berth at Ivory has a sunken uninsured boat sitting on the bottom with a reported 60k epa fine! Kirra and Coolangatta is being destroyed with over development and you wouldn't recognise the place 😢 just some local news, wishing you guy's all the very best 😊
Gday mate oh nice we are missing the surf (not the crowds) get some waves for us thanks for the update it will always be home but I guess never the same 🤙
Love you all this is the best way I can help 😢 I’m not financially able to help more I wish I could do more you are all amazing have been watching your videos almost from the beginning don’t worry you are amazing
She's looking great guys hat off to you all. I think you have underestimated the centreboard and cavity job time wise might be better if they can block you higher earlier so you have time to account for "Murphy", a day in the slings might not be enough to get the board out let alone repair and clean and antifoul.
I would not suggest solid welded piping. Boats flex a lot, flex will cause welds to fail or material to bend that aren't meant to bend. If you implement expansion joints... then maybe. I would go with Dyneema, personally. Certainly some of those projects could be done in a marina, if need be.
Lots of us have money struggles. Is there not an opportunity for those of you not involved in the refit to take up some temporary jobs and earn some money to help with the expensive items.
I have mentioned in the past when you. the when your in an area in which Aussies fought in WW2. we are not young anymore and the the young ones don't seem care about our history. just a thought.
I looked at your Amazon site, is there a way to prioritize what you need. I want to send some stuff, but want to be sure you can put it to use right away.
I would think that you guys could make some money doing boat work for others as you travel. You have a lot of knowledge and problem solving skills that others should see value in. Maybe try to offer a specialized service like doing Lithium/solar installs for people can not afford to have a real shop/yard do the work. I know it is very expensive as i am paying someone to do it on our sail boat right now and they are billing around 200 hours of time for the job, which i thought was outrageous but then i got two more quotes and one was for 400 hours, thats $45,000 just in labor for a 24v 1200ah set up!!!!! After that the 200 hour quote seemed quite reasonable. I often think of how i can make a living in the boating world as my wife and i plan to spend a lot of time on the boat and hopefully one day i will come up. with something as it would be nice to have income while traveling. Best of luck to you and after you go thru the canal are you planning on sailing the North East USA? I would guess a good percentage of boats sitting in that yard and every boat yard are sitting there because the owner can not do the work themself and can not afford to pay bost yard prices to get their boat back in the water. Your potential customer base is huge.
FYI... Lately when I try to send you something off your wish list... I get a message that this item cannot be sent to a wish list address. SO instead I increased my monthly Patreon donation. Want to help you get what you need to get back in the water.
I don't think you have to give an explanation to anyone. When it comes to refitting a boat, you have to be thorough in doing things. It also takes money and time. If some people can't realize this, that's their problem. It's not like you can snap your fingers and things are fixed right away.
I think y’all should go get some jobs. You could have those list ticked off real quick, but just a couple weeks of work. Definitely within six months of working all four of you.
A wonderful sailing family. You are so humble and deserving of any help anyone can give.
thank you 🥰
You might like to have a look at Spear It animal episode 28 and look at what they did for their hard top which had lots of space fore a solar array and they included an extension for hoisting their dingey. You might like what they did and maybe make a version of that.

Your family is so lucky to be such a strong unit. And the labor being provided by family members really makes it possible.
we are very lucky ☺

Appreciate that

Glad to see the new welder. I always thought more sailboats should have a Tig welder aboard with so much stainless steel.

It must be hard after all your efforts when people get online to make unpleasant comments ... don't forget that there must be something fundamentally wrong with people who take time out of their day to be terds!

You should be getting all weldable materials from the "scrap" yards. A lot cheaper!
"The main ONE is these TWO to start with" 😂
Enjoy your channel 👍

Don’t be sorry we love that you are here and like watching the vids
Lol 😂you guys crack me up 😂wish I could help
Great video! Keep up the projects.
Great video. It sounds like you are assigning a lot of welding for you to do. Have you welded much in life? Just curious
yes we just got a welder lee is learning so that will be fun to watch 😜

thanks yeah they can but we don't want to be in a marina where we are 😜plus its cheaper on the hard too
18:07 Missed that. Prop speed to be put on?
Yeah we will be applying prop speed 😁
🤣 that ending ... wait ... what? Did I miss something somewhere? 🤣
🫣🤣

Thanks 🥰
Keep it up ❤❤❤❤
I looked at your Amazon site, is there a way to prioritize what you need. I want to send some stuff, but want to be sure you can put it to use right away.
Some of the items have written on them high priority most of the things at the top are what we need to finish projects atm 😁 🙏

Tee Shirt logo and tag line "Now we have a welder"
Hi
Sounds alot like the cost of living in Australia, all is normal guys...
This will sound so stupid. But I daydream of being able to just give yall like $50,000 to help get everything ship shape and squared away. ❤
Not stupid 😁
Go the hard top. Question on the ketch rig. I am a KISS advcate, and a cutter rig semes more simple to me. Do comment.
Yeah we don’t mind a cutter rig a lot more rigging and cost with a ketch 🫣
Amazon needed a shipping address
It shouldn’t if you purchase from the list it will send to our shipping address in Phoenix cheers
😊
You will be a gun welder when you get all that done.😉
FYI... Lately when I try to send you something off your wish list... I get a message that this item cannot be sent to a wish list address. SO instead I increased my monthly Patreon donation. Want to help you get what you need to get back in the water.
Thanks Garold we appreciate you 🥰
If you're still in peñasco and need any help, reach out.
Thanks yeah we are still here
Man, what does it cost to be on the hard? Is Mexico really cheap?
Yeah the cheapest yard we have been in
rope and welding gloves can't be shipped to a registry address.
I can’t see a problem on my end thank you for trying to purchase though 🙏
@@SailingCatalpa No worries, I just found some other similarly-priced things instead.
"it's very very hard" thusly why they call it being "on the hard" 🤣🤣🤣
🤣🤣 that's exactly why of coarse 😆
Re: video with feet: hard no.
I don't think you have to give an explanation to anyone. When it comes to refitting a boat, you have to be thorough in doing things. It also takes money and time. If some people can't realize this, that's their problem. It's not like you can snap your fingers and things are fixed right away.
Yeah true but we like to keep it real and especially when people keep assuming we are back in the water. oh how I wish we could snap our fingers 😜
@@SailingCatalpa I understand that.
Good luck with your sails accuracy is not their strong point!!
rent the kids out :-)
Easy fix, sell one of your kids or a kidney each. hehe. No need to rush I for one know it cost a lot so don't stress have a bit of fun were you are.
🤣
I think y’all should go get some jobs. You could have those list ticked off real quick, but just a couple weeks of work. Definitely within six months of working all four of you.
Should have just bought a new boat
OnlyFans?😂 What an amazing husband. You should create an account in his name. 😜
🤣😂🤣
@SalingCatalpa *_ WOW, nice NEW INTRO .... sound is a thousand times better!! _*
Thanks yes Ive been meaning to fix it for a while
