    Hi:) I am a biochemistry major and I am really interested in this kind of science. When I first started bleaching my hair I did a ton of research on olaplex and other products like it. Your blog post on olaplex was really helpful and in general, I am very inspired by everything you've done on youtube and your blog. I have been watching youtube and reading beauty blogs since I was in middle school but as I began to receive formal science education, I became increasingly frustrated with all of the false, contradicting, and wish-washy information online. I would love to know more about your chemistry background and if you do any research!

    • @latro1989
      @latro1989 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I came also to comment on that. I uses olaplex and it worked quite well but it was very irritating for my skin. Now somebody recommended K18 but it's ridiculously expensive so I would like an honest opinion before I buy it..

    • @alexcoop8068

      @@latro1989 honestly I really love k18 so far. I’ve been using it on almost all of my highlight clients and almost every client who has taken it home has actually seen really good results. I used it regularly but now I use it here and there, and use their detox shampoo once a week and haven’t had any irritation from it so far.
      I still have my olaplex shampoo and will use it every once in a blue moon(I mostly use it to wash my makeup brushes now 😂😂😂) and it doesn’t irritate my skin nearly as much but I still can’t use it regularly.

    • @ninjacat508
      @ninjacat508 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I know this is several years too late but I'm mainly commenting for future readers.
      The #3 will only be effective while it's still damp.
      It won't do much leaving it in overnight. You'd be better off applying #3 on lightly damp hair, covering hair with plastic cap or bag for up to an hour.
      The #6 is a leave-in anyway so you wouldn't wash that out.
      However, you could use the #8 (hair mask) as an overnight treatment.

    I don’t bleach, colour, blow dry, straighten etc. And I still use olaplex twice a month bc shampooing, natural drying, the sun etc all damage the hair. All I use are #0 and #3. Any of there other products have silicone in them so they aren’t as suitable for curly hair. My hair is down to my waistline with minimal split ends that I can cut myself so I haven’t gotten a cut in two years!
    I had no idea that adding #3 to bleach did so much! I wish more hairdressers/stylists did their research and do diligence.

    • @pvanpelt1
      @pvanpelt1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ll have to look at #0 and #3. I avoid silicones because my hair has low porosity and they doesn’t absorb. I stopped coloring my hair a few years ago, but I still heat style it (with a protectant). It’s healthy, but I like trying new things. And I report back to my stylist how they worked for me

    • @deannabanman243
      @deannabanman243 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pvanpelt1 I hope it works for you! If your hair is anything like mine, it might really like the strengthening oil from briogio. It’s the only product I have found with ceramides, and no silicone obvs. Oils from the ordinary also don’t have silicone which can be nice to find leave-in aminos and fatty acids.

  • @hiyacynthia

    Michelle, is gray hair sort of “damaged” without doing anything damaging to it? Some sections of my hair that are only white hair act totally differently from the rest of my hair. Will Olaplex help? I don’t heat dry or use damaging products.

    • @alissamedvedeva5614
      @alissamedvedeva5614 13 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I am not Michelle, but the main difference between normal and gray hair is the fact that it's cortex is much thinner. It's not damaged on the outside, so olaplex won't help, it's thinner on the inside.

      @NaomiWilliams Your hair is beautiful. I have true ash blonde hair, and mine lifts in what seems like moments! hahaha I'm middle age now and have begun to get silver stripes. Previously I'd highlighted my hair almost all my adult life, but have stopped since nature has taken over. Is there anything I need to know should I consider doing any sort of addtl highlights or color now that I'm half silver/half ash?

    • @naomilovenpeace
      @naomilovenpeace 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@therealJamieJoy I would only get more highlights if you feel like the grays don't blend in well but it's definitely not required or anything. One thing to be aware of is that gray hair can get a yellow or brassy tint to it. This can happen because of using too high of heat on it, hard water, or product buildup. Using a purple toning shampoo about once a week will prevent this and keep your grays looking bright!

    Hi Michelle, thank you so much for all your videos and your scientific insights, it is so refreshing to be able to rely on informations. I have a question regarding Olaplex, I used the number 3 on slightly bleached hair, at the beginning, it worked like magic on my ultra tangled hair but then I started experiencing important breakage. I didn't think it was Olaplex so I used it a second time months later and got breakage again. I read a lot of people experienced this issue and I wondered if there is a scientific explanation. I believe my hair is quite sensitive to protein overload, could it be linked ?

    • @LabMuffinBeautyScience
      @LabMuffinBeautyScience  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it could be kind of linked - it could be that there are too many bonds perhaps. I'd recommend giving your hair a break from it and using other ingredients instead if you want more strength.

    Thank you for sharing! Love your videos. Could you share about the science behind eye creams? I've seen so many products in the market but I'm at a loss of which to choose from, and what really works.

    Will it work for aging gray hair that becomes dry and hard?

    Would you able to do a review of the new brand "Proven" skincare?

    So, does it matter if you buy it from a drug store vs salon?

    I have never bleached or colored my hair, and I don’t ever use heat on my hair. Basically I don’t have any hair problems except for the usual normal shedding (which I find so annoying). My hair is about 30% natural gray and the rest is my natural color which is black. But if I use Olaplex, will it make my hair look fuller and shinier and more robust and resistant to sun damage?

    Hi. Love your videos.
    It sounds like a magic shampoo. I never bleached my hair. Can it help hair loss especially caused by COVID-19?

    So is olaplex a protein treatment? And if so, do we have to balance it with a moisturizing treatment?
    I'm asking because after 2 uses of olaplex within 2 weeks i didn't see any difference on my hair.Allthow my hair is bleached, it isn't visibly damaged and without any split ends and contains a normal amount of moisture (It feels only a little dry sometimes).Instead, after the olaplex treatment it felt kinda weird, shiny but dry (?!)
    i just couldn't explain it...
    Thank youuu

      Apparently you have to use a deep conditioner after using olaplex number 2

      Not a protein treatment, the bonds it fixes are more internal.

    I love Olaplex. I leave it on overnight and wash it off in the morning and it works wonders for dry hair :-) Not cheap but worth every penny. I have only used no 3 so far. :-)

    Can anyone help me? If using Olaplex number 1 in my bleaching process must I bump up de developer? I wanted to use 30 volume, must I use then 40 volume plus olaplex to obtain the same result as a 30 volume?
