Emphasing the need for policy towards wealth redistribution, Mr. Pitroda elaborated on the concept of inheritance tax prevailing in the U.S. "In America, there is an inheritance tax. If one has $100 million worth of wealth and when he dies he can only transfer probably 45% to his children, 55% is grabbed by the government. That's an interesting law. It says you in your generation, made wealth and you are leaving now, you must leave your wealth for the public, not all of it, half of it, which to me sounds fair," Mr. Pitroda said.

As of 2023, six states impose an inheritance tax: Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Nebraska, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. " Even in these states, people can avoid paying taxes because of several loopholes. So, Sam, you are 100% lying and know nothing about US tax laws.

Even in the US six states where estate tax is imposed and exceptions on immediate relatives made, tax will kick in only when the inheritor sells the wealth where they generate an income.
Whoever believes in this idea of redistribution..they should start from their home first..no law is required to share their ancestors wealth with poor people. It would be great initiative and then only they would be the right people to propagate this idea.. hoping for that day to come soon ❤
As someone who is born in J&K, Jammu region, I should say this, which most of the people fail to understand and the whole nation should know, Jammu and Kashmir is not only limited to quote "People of Kashmir" unquote. It's a cohesive state, including the "dogras: people who established this state" we called Jammu & Kashmir today. J&K is bigger than the so-called "people of Kashmir."
People are happy by the demolition of the draconian Article 370 (except few but hey, there are always menaces in every society, so no comments on that) but on ground a lot of lives has been improved and it's a tight slap on those sho used to shout "nobody can and ever will scrap 370, we won't let that happen" and it happend. I urge to the people of Kashmir, vote for the party who has changed and made the history by scapping this law. There's a little that needed to be done, but it can only happen by bringing right people into the power. We need a cohesive development in our state not in one particular region. It's "Jammu and Kashmir" without one other would have cease to exist but it's was Maraja Hari Singh that made it possible who was a Dogra. So, I request the whole nation to at least try and dig into the history of J&K and help us bring reform in this beautiful state.

Petroda is lying about US law. If the assets are in a trust fund or will to whoever then it isn’t taxed. If there is no trust or will at death then the spouse gets all after taxes and spouse doesn’t exist then it is put in a trust fund and children can file in Probate Court for legal heirs to the trust fund. First US laws don’t apply in India, second Sam Petroda doesn’t know US laws which vary from state to state.

Not all the beneficiaries of the inherited properties need to pay the 55% of the income they gained from the sales of their ancestral properties. There are exemptions too based on the nature of the inheritance.

India has an offensive economic inequality. To solve that we need inheritance tax beyond the inherited property of Rs 5 crores. That will finance free education, free medical service and free legal service for all. That will affect both Nawab Saif Ali Khan and sons of Adani and Ambani. That's the guy who had become a naturalized US citizen, but later renounced it, to become an Indian citizen again, because the Congress Party offered to hire him as an adviser to the Central government. His statement that we should have inheritance tax has been rejected by the entire Congress Party establishment. What kind of adviser had he been to the Congress Party when it was in power? This unlettered so-called "adviser" seems to have been totally unaware that we had inheritance tax but it was abolished by, none other than, corrupt Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, a Congress party man himself, so he could inherit all his mother's wealth tax-free.
