  • Leadership is not an expertise. Leadership is a constant education.
Simon shines a light on the overlooked aspect of leadership within the education system and offers a roadmap to transformation. With compelling comparisons and real-world implications, Sinek argues for a new leadership approach that places teachers at the forefront of administrators' priorities. Find out how this shift could be the solution to the educational challenges we face, creating a more effective and empathetic learning environment for all.

Agree. Teachers need to feel supported and encouraged so they can support and encourage their students.

This is spot on and applies not only to grade school and public schools, but absolutely to higher education- college and universities- as well!

Tbh we have a similar issue in Italy, if teachers don't get treated better the whole system will fall one day

Everyone must be taught to lead. To me, leadership is the ability to be a winner in your field as you work with others to all lead the mission, vision and goals forward in unity, one mind, one purpose.
Doing something to win and doing something not to lose is not the same thing.
When being a lone ranger, you will do things not to lose. When you are part of a supportive team, you will do things to win.
To me, support is the pinnacle of winning, and winning is the pinnacle of leadership; Therefore, everyone must be taught to lead, rather than bask in someone else's limitation of authority that causes things to become destroyed or bring about despondency or other dangerous emotions/attributes like anger, envy, jealousy, etc.

Simon has accurately pinpointed contemporary issues within the education system, not only within the USA but also in other countries. Bangladesh, in particular, faces significant challenges with its education system, highlighting the urgent need for the government to implement strict measures and corrective actions to address the current state of education.
Despite free primary education and government-paid textbooks, over 4.3m children do not attend school, and about 26% of the population remains illiterate. Dropout rates are high, especially in rural areas, attributed to subpar teaching standards and conditions. Our education sector lacks alignment with market demands, hindering economic growth and competitiveness. Despite progress in enrollment, quality remains a major issue in the country. Moreover, there is criticism of universities producing unskilled graduates, reliance on western education models, and corruption in the recruitment of teachers. The commercialization of education exacerbates these issues, prompting calls for a systemic overhaul to meet global challenges and opportunities.

I'm not from the U.S but we are also have this problem which unfortunately causes many good and great teachers to leave the education system due to burn out. They have to deal with everyone against them and no one but themselves on their side so after a few years when they feel like they can't take it anymore they leave and turn to other areas, mostly high-tech because it's more rewarding in all aspects.

The first school I taught at I was told students were the priority over the teachers and it was evident, which may explain why there was a 50% turnover in teachers that year.

How would you suggest Law Enforcement move forward in their leadership journey? Obviously we start with the same trickle down theory of leadership, but any other industry specific thoughts to add.
I find law enforcement interesting in that every officer officer must go out and become leaders in people's toughest moments, in situations they aren't fully briefed on with people who are likely distressed. It's a tough job I have so much respect for.
The nation wide hiring crisis has many causes but good leadership is the one that law enforcement has arguably the most control over. As always thank you for your incredible content.

Case in point: queer kids in Owasso Public Schools (Oklahoma)
For a place with a lot of ties and nodes to military culture, Oklahoma does a shit job of empowering anyone who isn’t a cis white male to be a leader. Oklahoma definitely wouldn’t ever even consider that women (who hold the most jobs in education in Oklahoma) could be leaders or that it would be desirable. I know because my leadership skills were treated as threatening in every place I was an educator. They are only threatening to disfunction.
    Thanks Simon ❤

I've only been a sub for a few months, but one thing that's kind of left out of this is that admin at schools are just as powerless honestly bc of red tape. There are so many laws that take any and all power away from educators that there really is no way to punish a child at any level in a school. The only real power they have is to suspend or expel a student and shy of threatening to bomb the school, bring a weapon, or maliciously attack other students multiple times, they can't really even do that. There's no punishment for talking back to a teacher, the teacher can't do anything, if they yell they get fired and that's not a good way to respond anyway, but there's nothing for the admin to do either.

As the HR Director for a nationwide corporation, we immediately disqualify potential applicants for three things… dugs, history of violence or any mention on resume about this guy Simon… shocking how many people need somebody with absolutely zero real life business experience to tell them how to live their life. We want people with the ability to think on their own, not some puppet that follows this tool.
