- The ever spectacular Simola HillClimb once again delivered a tremendous spectacle with plenty of High Powered, bewinged Monsters battling for the "King of the Hill" title. From 1000+Hp Nissan GT-R units, V8 Supercar beasts, plenty of Engine Swapped Lotus Exiges, be it Ferrari powerplants, Honda Turbo, VR38DETT and even featuring Active Aero. Here the term HillClimb Monster is truly put to the test, and this is how they stacked up in the end:

That Ferrari swapped Exige! Although I really wanna see the Sheriff tackle Pikes Peak with that insane Aero Kit, same with the Exige!
Liking Wade’s new blue livery on the R34, also couldn’t help but notice he had the power dialed down too...

This is probably one of my favorite HillClimb Monster videos! Every car was INSANE!
its the best south africa has to offer , i think its a much better test of a vehicle than a quarter mile.
@@jonathandalton2921 oh yeah... watching 1/4 mile, unless it's pushing the limits of a motor / chassis or proper street race with massive pots are boring 😴
It ranks very very high for sure...but we have some aces up our sleeve to post in the coming weeks ;)

Must be a Mercedes mechanic working on that lotus, some serious porpoising going on! What a mega car though
What in the end prevented it from battling for victory,,,
i hate to point out , these are municipality maintained roads, just a few years ago that was a gravel bush path going up that hill , that you needed a 4x4 to go up. i think the porpoising is from road undulations , that actual tarmac is not think, a few thin layers on top older clay/gravel roads.
@@jonathandalton2921 yeah I completely understand that these are not fully prepped race tracks that they are competing on, definitely going to be way more bumps and undulations, but it certainly seemed like an aero problem with the lotus rather than bumps comparing it to the other competitors. Not to take anything away from what an amazing car and build it is though
@@stringsgb8833 Most of the Muppets have the suspension set way too hard for a road course. Coilovers are fkn crap for the road with undulations
Pieter Zeelie & his MR-S will always be my favorite driver/car combo. Will never forget when he won Simola a few years back. "The Sheriff" and its big front mounted Wing reminds so much of Chris Rado's Time Attack Scion tC circa '09 though. Such a radical look, and wind tunnel data back then proves its effectiveness.

the wing attached to that lotus attached to that ferrari v8 was pretty cool
the sheriff was absolutely nuts. 1600hp and 2600lbs is just crazy. definitely needed that front mount wing and it made it look awesome as well. not only that one but that 800+hp lotus weighing only 1800lbs probably felt like he was getting sent to heaven going around those corners good lord!
That Jaguar was very nice. I’ve never heard of nitrous ever being used on a hillclimb course that’s just wild

This course has the maddest cars
It ranks very high for sure...
With all respect (as a motosport enginer) the lotus (x a few)apart frm the last one) need FAR more suspension travel to ensure the tires are in constant (within reaaon) contact with the tarmac/less bottoming out/splitter hitting. Its easy to check out the N24 Porches who drastically increase suspension travel to improve stability/driveability (Mathenthy et all) from stock etc. But great cars, loving the engineering efforts from all competitors
I was thinking the same thing (especially for the first one w Ferrari v8)
With the levels of downforce they are running wouldnt it be redundant at high speeds to have more travel if it is just getting shoved into the bottom of the travel anyway at any higher speed than the start?

Regardless of the overall standing, that R34 looked like it was seriously hauling! I was beginning to wonder if a cloud of asphalt would be rolling up the hill behind it by the end.
Lots of quick cars in this one too, but that one was the standout for me.
And trust us, from the inside it is even more impressive...To be continued ;)

The Lotus was porpoising on the front very difficult and unpredictable to drive
You can hear from the sound of the cars at the start that they keeping it calm like "Dude, he's not even flooring it!" "No, he just doesnt want to murder everybody on the sidelines."
0:34 When u have you suspension setup for a smooth circuit & you show up to a hill climb on cambered public roads LOL. That porpoising is ridiculous.

The Exige with the Honda minivan motor is my jam; that same J35A4 is what I'm planning on putting in my Series II NA Miata. Tiny car + grocery-getter power is no joke! My output goal with a turbo is only around 400bhp or, more likely, whatever I can make at 10psi or less. I think I'm going to cut part of the trunk out to accommodate a rear-mount snail that keeps waste heat out of the (cramped) engine bay.

I’ve gotta respect that XKR, Another under rated car the XK chassis is beautiful but plagued with typical 1980-2010 European car reliability issues.

The rebound rate/damping on the first car, the Lotus, was badly set up. I guess they didnt equate for the bumpy parts.
Nissan GTR R35, 1600HP for 1300KG is a monstrous ratio 🙂
With more wing and less rideheight these cars could put in some real competitive times.
