Boy, can I relate. I have, in the past been so self conscious about my appearance and yet now when I look at pictures of myself I wonder what was wrong with my thinking! Now in my early 70’s I am very aware that I can do a lot to enhance my appearance by just taking care of my health and dressing in a flattering way.

Last year on vacation I saw a woman who was probably in her late 70s or maybe in her 80s. She was wearing a spaghetti strap long swimsuit cover up that looked like a dress. Her hair was done. She had on a bracelet. She was just relaxing and I thought to myself she looks beautiful. You can tell how old she is she has wrinkles, but I thought she looked beautiful and she gave me the courage to start wearing, sleeveless tops again.

Kay is right! If we spend all our “getting dressed “ energy trying to hide what we see as negatives, it will be pretty hard to feel confident, relaxed and fully present during our activities. I’ve learned you do what you can to feel well dressed, appropriate and attractive for an event, and then you have to turn your attention from how you look to the reason you are present with these people at this particular time. Let vgomog thinking you have to look your absolute best every time. Show some flabby arms and keep enjoying the event! 😊😊

Thank you for these tips! For the last 10+ years (I'm 64) I find myself working to accept and embrace my changing body. I try to stay in shape and do the best I can to look my best physically and with fashion. But the reality is....my body is growing old and along with that comes changes! But what a privilege to grow older. Let's keep a smile on our face and be confident, mature women!

Hi Kay! I’m 62 and a fitness instructor who USED TO have amazingly toned arms I was proud of! WELL, menopause has changed all of that AND I just had shoulder surgery 4 mos ago and am getting my strength back but probably never the tone I want. It bums me out but your encouraging words help a lot and we have to accept this aging thing and do our best. I am grateful to be pain free and able to do all I want in life. Thanks. You approached this subject with grace and positivity!

I refuse to be ashamed of, or apologize for, or cover up for “looking older”, men aren’t, ever! We’re supposed to not comment on their fat bellies and bald heads, so how dare they criticize us just for aging, which no one can control. Women don’t look like models, even when we’re young. My arms are slender, but flabby, it’s from the normal collagen loss of aging, not that I’m fat or don’t exercise!. My Mom was so stressed about covering her older arms every second even in 100+F heat, but I wear sleeveless tops and dresses if I want to. Our purpose as women is not to impress or titillate men. As a Christian woman, I have always dressed modestly (no cleavage, although I do wear short skirts still); I want to look my best, but I don’t want to hide anything just because I’m older, why should we? I wore a sleeveless silk dress today, out mall shopping, under a blazer, but I only added that because I got cold when the wind came up. I need to be lightly dressed inside overheated shops and, especially, fitting rooms. Keeping cool in one’s 60s is challenging enough without having to cover my arms and legs because of outdated ideas of what’s “age-appropriate”. Age-appropriate is exactly what each woman determines for herself.

Kay, You're right on! No one notices our flabby arms - they notice our smiles! We need to get over ourselves - we spend too much time worrying about what other people think about us. I read somewhere the other day "What other people think of me is none of my business!" So true! Great video!

My grandson , age 4 at the time, did. Last year when he was over eating dinner he asked me “ what is that ?” Pointing at my hanging upper arms. I told him sometimes when people get older they get extra old skin. I told him he can touch them if he wanted. He reached over and grabbed the flab , wiggled it back and forth and said “ gobble, gobble , gobble” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

@@americafirst9144 I agree with both of the above comments to a degree. There are times, around family and close friends, that “I do me” and can wear the sleeveless, etc. HOWEVER, I do sometimes feel that I am being more courteous and eliminating a distraction from the purpose of meeting if I pay attention and cover up more in order to negate those distractions.

After having them for decades they went away immediately and permanently (as long as I don’t eat greasy foods at restaurants that still use vegetable oil) as soon as I switched to avocado oil.

I loved this video Kay. I am 60 years young. I have given birth, raised a family, married the love of my life 40 years ago (and counting), run 5 marathons, built a career, survived breast cancer, and I am blessed to have a grandchild. All of these blessings and accomplishments say more about me than the size or tone of my arms. Nevertheless, I always appreciate learning more about how simple styles choices can enhance beauty and confidence. Something not mentioned in your video is that a soft tan helps arms look more slender, IMO, so I recommend using a self-tanner, along with other nice body products, to feel your best. Great video!

I have the same problem! I'm 70 and I've covered my arms for decades. This type of arm is actually pretty common. I envy women with slim and toned arms. When fashion turned to 3/4 sleeves, I was very pleased. This type of sleeve is very versatile. Tops with 3/4 sleeves are cool in summer (there are limits!), and warmer when we go into air conditioned areas. So, I see this sleeve style as suitable for many occasions. Thank you for this enjoyable program!

I agree with you about helping our daughters and granddaughters view their bodies in a positive light. I have polycystic ovarian syndrome as do my daughter and granddaughter. As a result we 're all plus size women. When I was first diagnosed when my daughter was young I made the decision to always make positive comments about how I looked and always dressed well. At the time I had no idea that both my child and grandchild would have the same issue. It wasn't always easy but now we"re three generations of confident women who look and feel beautiful and stylish no matter age or size!

I think it’s ok to have things we see as our best features and play those up and ok to have things we think are not our best features. Not that we “don’t like” that part; but maybe that we would rather not call particular attention to. It’s ok, as long as we realize that it’s not a big deal, and probably less so to everyone else. That said, I want to say how generous it is of you, exposing a feature that you consider to be less than your best and sharing how you work around it to feel your best self.

Especially why, after losing 100 pounds and getting down to a size 2, I still saw that my upper arms, thighs, and calves are still abnormally large for my size with these weird pockets of nodules. Anyway, I'll always be disguising my upper arms and appreciate the suggestions.

So even though my arms are toned well, I still don't like them anymore. We're our own worst critic, aren't we?! My husband and friends said they never noticed that stuff until I pointed it out. Thanks for the great suggestions and links! Other things you can do are:
1.). make sure to moisturize your arms/body (maybe use a retinol moisturizer at night),
2.) use a SPF 50+ to prevent age spots on arms/hands,
3.) use a moisturizer w/ a “shimmer” effect or one w/ a sheer tint. e.g. Coppeertone Glow Shimmer, Jergens Sunless Tanners, Vaseline Cocoa Glow, etc.

You are right that others don’t notice my arms. I’m 66 and I live in central Texas. It is hot here from May til mid October. It’s even too warm to wear layers like a light weight shirt over a sleeveless top when going out and about.
I love your style and sweet personality. I think that I’m very much like you in coloring, body type (I’m definitely a pear shape), height and weight. I love the styles you wear. 😊

Thanks for this, Kay. I, like so many women, hate my arms! So many retailers feature sleeveless dresses for summer! I noticed Talbot's summer dresses are overwhelmingly sleeveless, which I find so discouraging. Thanks for the helpful tips!

    • @americafirst9144
      @americafirst9144 8 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

Wear a long sleeve shirt over those dresses. It is ridiculous that 90% of summer dresses are sleeveless. Probably only 20% of grown women want to show their arms.

I live in TX where it can be unbearable in the summer months. At 66 i don’t really love my arms but… i do lift weights. I also a niaminicin and ceramide cream to help with bumps. I find that short sleeves make my arms look larger. Sleeveless looks better on me. I love kimonos.
    Great tips Kay!

It is weird, but i think no sleeves makes us look at the top instead of our arms, where a short sleeve top kind of points out our flaws.

My upper arms are big and since I lost 40 pounds they are flabby. There is no way to change this except with surgery which I won't do. Exercise doesn't help. I just need to find tops that cover them.

I’ve always been petite with nice looking arms but bam! Menopause changed all that! Now I have the jigglies 😮Your ideas for making them look their best are spot on. As a sewist I know you can do an adjustment to make sleeves fit our individual bodies but you just can’t do much with ready to wear clothes. Also make sure the bust and back of your top fit properly and have the proper ease, that will also minimize your arms. Too snug and it draws attention to all those areas. Dolman sleeves, light and breezy shirts or toppers are my go to. Thank you for bring attention and solutions to this area of our changing bodies.

I can get through some years without showing my upper arms. I have the swinging flab and always seem to be waving at somebody when my arms are out in the open! But my brother wanted me to come see his pool a few years ago and so I had to put on a BATHING SUIT in front of all of the family. I decided I would just scoop the gnats off the water and not swim. So I could put on Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs on legs and arms. And not wave at anybody. I was no longer bumpy and blotchy. I had to catch a dog at some point and wound up IN the pool - and that stuff stayed put!!! So if I ever have to go out in a shift dress, I would absolutely apply that stuff to my arms. It really helped MY confidence. Thank you for another great video.

I remember when when I was young, my siblings and I used to flap my grandmother's hanging arms. It was an endearing gesture that she embraced. Another thing that I do is drape or tie a light weight cardigan over my shoulders. Thanks for all your inspiration.

As always Kay, you are right on, thank you! Love your videos, your encouragement and your positive attitude. I care about how I look and feel but never dress to please others. You talked about choices and style in a previous video. It was then that I realized that I actually make specific choices because I like a certain style for myself. I’ve always been told that I have a smile that lights up a room and puts people at ease…that’s what I concentrate on because I believe people see our ‘light’ first. Again, thank you for your time and videos. They always give me something new to think about. ❤

I always appreciate your content, positive attitude and your ability to help us in keeping our insecurities in perspective. My wonderful mom, who is now deceased wore sleeveless tops at 80. She was confident, fun loving and lived life to the fullest! That is what is remembered about her!! On one occasion we were having a conversation about dresses and how the styles I love most always seemed to be sleeveless. I was considering eliminating sleeveless dresses from my closet, swearing them off for my future, to which she said, "If people don't like what they see, maybe they shouldn't look"!!! She was a hoot! :-)
