The best pun I ever saw was a reply to someone pointing out Sam's stark difference to every actor in one scene. Everyone is being bounced around in this ship or shuttle except Sam. "I guess Sam doesn't rock well."
not even sure if you should say snooty(i know he actually called himself this), acting is one of those art forms where it's easy to get type cast and stuck in a type of role so actors are constantly worried about how they are being perceived. you also got to factor in that he was at the time just over 10 years in the industry at the point of galaxy quest, his previous film was green mile(an all-time great movie) and his most recognizable role prior to that was teenage mutant ninja turtles.
"...a born comedic actor"? Huh? What does that even mean. You talk like he hasnt trained or studied acting at all. You diminish his skills and everyone else who works hard to make it look easy.
Just watched Galaxy Quest again last night.it’s easily in my top 10 movies of all time. Sam Rockwell is great in it - but as my pal and I were saying last night, he’s great in everything.
While the whole movie was funny, to me Sam's funniest line is when they get transported onto the ship: Jason Nesmith: You guys came! Who wants the grand tour? Everyone: ... Guy Fleegman: ... AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHRRRRAAAAHHHHHHHHRRRRAAARRRAARrraahhhhh..... ahhhhhrghhh.... But the funniest line delivery in the entire movie goes to Jed Rees as Teb: Teb: But the animal is inside out! ... Teb: And it exploded!
That scene is one of my faves in the movie, my brother and I still quote it whenever a sci-fi movie goes to a new planet. "Don't open that, it's an alien planet! Is there AIR??? You don't know!!"
Meanwhile in Alien: Covenant, they’re just going out to alien planets without ANY safety precautions. You know it’s bad when a COMEDY has more common sense (and better writing) than a serious horror movie.
@@What.99 Every character in both Prometheus and Covenant were supposed to be experts at their jobs yet they all had the mentality of a horny Camp Crystal Lake counsellor. I love when Honest Trailers suggested that Covenant is about Earth getting rid of all of their morons by sending them off into space.
This is an excellent lesson for playing comedy. I can't stand the current crop of actors who telegraph to the audience that it's supposed to be funny. That makes it not funny. The true humor comes from a character taking a ridiculous situation or event seriously. This is how Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin (and numerous others throughout film history) did it, and their performances are still funny 100 years later. Because they understood that one simple rule.
This is one of the reasons Airplane! is such a great comedy. Everyone, with one exception, play their parts as straight drama, ignoring the bizarre chaos happening around them. The one exception is Johnny who plays everything he does for laughs. I have watched a lot of reaction videos of Airplane!, and almost everyone finds him at least annoying.
@@ganggreen9012 You're not wrong about Airplane! being played straight, and therefore being more funny. But personally, I disagree about Johnny. He's used sparingly enough so that his antics are a refreshing splash of wacky nonsense around the otherwise serious performances. That's his assignment, and he does it well.
I had a brief encounter with Sam once after a play he did on Broadway. He did this hilarious play with Christopher Walken about a guy who loses his hand and goes in search of the guys who took it. As I waited outside for the actors as they were leaving Sam walked past and I put my hand on his back and told him he was amazing in Moon. He seemed gracious but also startled, and I realized I had invaded his personal space by putting my hand on his back, but he was nice about it.
His hidden gem, is Box of Moonlight, with John Turturro. Turturro starts as the lead, but it becomes a movie about both their characters, for most of the movie.
Guy Fleegman's moment were went from a scared little man to being willing to risk his life to just give the others a chance to help the thermians was such an amazing character arc, the movie could have never been the same without Sam Rockwell's performance.
That scene and that line is one of the defining moments of the movie for me. That and the “not minors..miners” scene. One of the best cast movies, ever. I am still not sure I want to know what he saw. It may make some anime fans recoil.
OK, not about the content of the video but the very fact that in the opening he looks like he just woke up and rolled out of bed and is talking to someone on video phone,FROM BED, it’s hilarious😂😂.
Sam Rockwell has to be my favorite actor. Incredible actor and seems like a decent human being. I usually don't get very excited about celebrities but he's one I'd love to meet just to tell him how much I love his work. I cannot think of one movie he's been in that I didn't thoroughly enjoy. That's rare.
Samuel. Samwise. Sam-whatever. Trust me, as someone who has invested the time into trying to understand everything ever for better (and absolutely worse), you weren’t actually being snooty, idiotic, assholish or anything. I’ve been there and done that and afaik you haven’t stooped to my level (yet?). We love you as an entertainer more than you know. Unleash yourself. I’ll apologize on your behalf if you go too far cuz I know how.
The movie was already on the edge of awesomeness... and the Guy showed up and pushed it over the edge...
"Sure, they're cute now, but in a second they're gonna get mean, and they're gonna get ugly somehow, and there's gonna be a million more of them."
I would not want to live in a universe without Sam as Guy Fleegman!
He has a last name? 😀
@raelshark Does he!? Does he!?
You mean Roc Ingersol!
The best pun I ever saw was a reply to someone pointing out Sam's stark difference to every actor in one scene. Everyone is being bounced around in this ship or shuttle except Sam.

Can't imagine Rockwell being snooty about comedy - he is a born comedic actor, as well as amazing dramatic actor.
not even sure if you should say snooty(i know he actually called himself this), acting is one of those art forms where it's easy to get type cast and stuck in a type of role so actors are constantly worried about how they are being perceived. you also got to factor in that he was at the time just over 10 years in the industry at the point of galaxy quest, his previous film was green mile(an all-time great movie) and his most recognizable role prior to that was teenage mutant ninja turtles.
What's funny is that most comedians who later act in movies are strong dramatic actors.
"...a born comedic actor"? Huh? What does that even mean. You talk like he hasnt trained or studied acting at all. You diminish his skills and everyone else who works hard to make it look easy.
and one hell of a dancer
Just watched Galaxy Quest again last night.it’s easily in my top 10 movies of all time. Sam Rockwell is great in it - but as my pal and I were saying last night, he’s great in everything.
Rockwell was pretty incredible in "Moon" and "Heist", if you've ever heard of either.
Just watched Heist last night, it rocks!
Moon was nice, love the twist with the clones.
My favorite Sam Rockwell movie is Box of Moonlight. Also stars one of my other favorite actors, John Turturro. Just a really amazing movie.
“DO I?! DO I?!”
-Guy Fleegman
Edit: Galaxy Quest nerds got to me
I've probably quoted this once a month ever since.
It’s Guy Fleegman. Tim Allen’s character was Jason Nesmith.
"Mommy! Mommy!"
and "Let's get out of here before one of them kills Guy!!"
@@RobinDale50 "Are we there yet?"

"What if there's no air?!?! You don't know!" is my fave. He's brilliant and the whole film is just fantastic!
4 actors I would watch anything they are in:
1. Phillip Seymour Hoffman.
2. Billy Bob Thornton
3. Sam Rockwell
4. Michael Keaton
Great list.
I’ll add Tom Hardy! Even that stupid This Means War
Well said.
Still my favourite Star Trek movie by far.

Didn't any of you ever actually WATCH the show?!
Did you? Galaxy Quest is a movie, not a show.
@@What.99 Its a line FROM the movie. How to say you haven't Galaxy Quest by just saying you haven't seen Galaxy Quest.
Rock Ingersol's take to the camera at the end of the movie remains one of my favorite moments from GQ.
Sam played His Character Hammer in the Iron Man 2 Movie “Over the Top” as well.
I loved Sam in Iron Man 2, the ultimately lovable bad guy. 🤣

See if you can fashion a rudimentary lathe is still one of the funniest and best delivered lines in a movie in my humble opinion
Sam Rockwell is da shit….If ya love SR, check out Moon. Love this actor.
He was perfect in the role.
"Let's get out of here. Before they eat Guy"
This was the first movie I saw Sam in and he was hilarious.
The first one I saw him in was “Hitchhiker’s Guide” 😂
I first saw him min Charlie's Angels
I first saw him in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. "There's a warehouse on Long island. You'll get your answers there."
Green Mile for me. And I kept thinking, "This guy is damaged."

Rockwell's performance in Welcome to Collinwood is an excellent example of his ability to be both serious and funny at the same time.

@@CorbCorbin Yeah, SR has done so many excellent small films that most people have never seen.
Galaxy Quest was a movie that slipped under my radar until recently. I loved it, and I wanted to see more.
My favorite scene is when "Guy" asked Tech Sgt. Chen the question that was on all of our minds: "Are you stoned?"🤣
Guy Fleegman's moment were went from a scared little man to being willing to risk his life to just give the others a chance to help the thermians was such an amazing character arc, the movie could have never been the same without Sam Rockwell's performance.
Honestly, I don't know if I would even know who Sam Rockwell is if not for his role on Galaxy Quest. Guy was my favorite character on that movie.
When I see Sam Rockwell is in the cast, I watch. One of those actors.
Ninja Turtles still rocks BTW.
“Is there air? You don’t know!” Guy was awesome

Sam Rockwell became one of my favorite actors because of Galaxy Quest and Green Mile. Between thise two movies, he really showed his range.
His part was awesome, my favorite character. "Whats my name" "I don't have last name" lol.
Kids, don't do Cow Pies 😂
And always balance your stimulants with your depressants.
... coffee and bourbon, sounds good 🙄
That movie was ridiculously perfect. One of the best science fiction spoof of all time.

Plucky?
Fortunately though, he took the role and the rest is cinematic history AND gold. Man, I might just have to rewatch this today...
Dude…my favourite role in the movie…I love ROCKWELL!
He will always be known as Guy to me even when I see him in other movies like Moon, Charlie's Angels (2002), Iron Man 2 and Argylle.
The only thing wrong about having Sam Rockwell in this role is he doesn't dance enough

Some of the all time greats switch back and forth from action to comedy to drama. It doesn't lessen their greatness, you've got it or you don't.
Sam.. sit in front of your iPad like a normal person, not from across the room 😅
His best comic role is in Gentlemen Broncos.
Justin was a kid in GQ.
To this day I struggle to remember Sam’s name. I see him and my brain thinks “Guy!”

I use "Oh, that's not right! No..." all the time in my life. Fleegman forever.
@1:35 oh, wow. Yes, I see his Micheal Keaton in that performance.
I call it “The Ex Wife.”
Sam Rockwell for sure looked age appropriate for the movie
One of the funniest characters brought to screen
Funny he mentions Tony Shalhoub , the dude was on Wings for years before Galaxy Quest lol.
he was perfect in the role and really funny
Moon was easily Sam Rockwell's best.
Sam was GEAT in galaxy quest.
Sam Rockwell is my favorite actor. Probably because the film Confessions of a Dangerous Mind.
Thought at first he was being interviewed from his jail cell 😅
Yeah, coffein for sure xD.
Too far from the camera, perhaps. The camera may also be a potato as well.
It's the selfie cam on his iPad.
Galaxy Quest is a classic..., sorry, get over it.... and Sam, along with all of the cast, simply killed in their roles...
I know! You construct a weapon. Look around, can you form some sort of rudimentary lathe?
Did he just crawl out of bed to do an interview?
Is he snooty about sitting near a camera
Rockwell is great in Gentlemen Bronco
