I have a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta GLI comes stock with a 2.0T. Had the car since January of 21 and it’s been nothing but amazing but the 210hp wasn’t cutting it. Decided to put a bigger turbo, catless downpipe, intercooler and even with the stock fuel system i made shy of 400hp. Love the car to death and never see myself getting rid of it in the foreseeable future even though it’s been down since august due to something getting sucked into my engine causing cylinder 3 to get chewed up. Doing a full rebuild on the motor but with college and work it’s hard to find time to put it together and with college I barely get hours to make money to buy parts. So it’s gonna be a project for a very good while :)😂

I had a 2005 CL65 that I bought in 2007 CPO'd with 16k miles on it for $80k. I owned it for 9 years. I currently own a 2015 CLS 63 AMG S l and this is my ninth AMG. To date my CL65 was my favorite! I had a love hate relationship with that car. fortunately when I purchased it I got a Chrysler extended service contract and boy did they lose money on me! Everything on that car is so freaking expensive to fix unless you're a tech and can do the work your self. I eventually modified the CL65 with speed driven larger capacity intercoolers, and a speed driven ECU tune. The car pulled like a train! The torque was unbelievable! a powder coated the calipers yellow, and got carbon fiber rims. I also put carbon fiber mirror covers and rear lip spoiler. The car was beautiful! I kick myself everyday for getting rid of it but it just scared me owning that thing out of warranty. I had major ABC suspension issues all the time and a host of other small things that just kept happening and I treated that car with kid gloves. The look of it is timeless and it was super comfortable to drive with endless power. I'm jealous that you got one and with your knowledge able to restore it and enjoy it properly. If I lived near you I would honestly purchase one and make you fix it up for me...Lol 😂

Alex, The hood struts may have failed because they were installed incorrectly. The should be upside down, so the oil inside can get to the seal and scraper. Is there an all aluminum radiator option for these cars? I would have got one in a OEM size with an external transmission cooler. Once that tune is leaned out some it should make real good power💪

    • @zanastumasonis

You have an interesting way of approaching your project! You have a true love for cars! I have an 05 C230 Kompressor that I replaced the head gasket on. Many of the problems you faced are reminiscent of the challenges I faced. The project ended up taking several years. She is running good now with a small oil leak out the bottom. I am going to live with it since I will have to hoist the engine, drop the cross member, disconnect the steering and cooler lines just to re seal the oil pan. Don't want to know why I needed to drop the oil pan! My project was a 4 cylinder and I thought that was bad! Watching you put together a 12 cylinder had my head spinning! Great video! Thank you for taking the time to share some of your knowledge as a Mercedes tech. 🚙

That 722.6 trans is the same one in my '14 Chrysler 300c hemi car! Yes, conductor plates can have issues, changed mine as a matter of cheap insurance, FCP Euro stocks the parts and trans filter kit, plus revalved and resprung the valve body and put AMG blue top solenoids in it. Shifts firm and works great, also took off trans cooler return line and ran 8 qts. clean oil through the torque converter as per M-B factory specs for trans service. It should work well even in front of that V12. Do change electronic solenoid valve o-rings, they do take a set after awhile in service!

I replaced the plug and conductor plate on my 2000 E320 (w210) and it was easy. I didn't do the sleeves in the body though, I didn't know about them. I have 133K miles on the car and about 30K on the conductor plate and plug. NO mechanical component such as the transmission is really "sealed for life" unless you consider the component to be disposable when it need not be. There aren't any shifting issues at the moment but I will do the sleeves at 150K. Thanks for letting me know about them. I did change the solenoid to blue tops in my 2013 Challenger NAG 1 (722 transmission) and they did firm the shifts up from stock Mopar. As the engine has since then been supercharged and tuned it is comforting to know they have been changed though at the current power level, I am pushing the design power handling for the trans and likely a beefed up trans is in the near future.

I had the opportunity to purchase a 2002 w220 that was in fairly decent condition. It was awd and needed a front axle and had a code for a conductor plate issue. Ran smooth and shifted like it should. The code just scared me away cause I figured it was gonna need a transmission rebuild. After watching this, I would’ve felt better about going forward with the purchase and doing the conductor plate myself

My work colleague bought a 2003 CL500 & he found a guy here in Ireland who had a tuner in Germany log onto his laptop to help with the tune. The car was from Japan so had to tell car the different fuel & I think he got it remapped as well for more power. It’s doable but takes a lot longer than any typical car

I don’t own a foreign car. Foreign cars like BMW or Mercedes are just out of my budget. A friend owned a Mercedes 420 SEL I think it was an 89. Gorgeous car, but it had a rear main seal leak. Dealer in the 90’s was going to charge 2500 to change out. My friend just kept a case of oil in the trunk and added as needed until he sold it. 😂😂

According to Renntech: the MB dealers will flash the ECU back to stock if you bring in your car and it has one of their tunes on it. It could've had a Renntech tune in the past. You can call them and they will look it up via the VIN. (I did the same for my 2006 S65 AMG)

1980 Mark 6. 55k on the odometer. My dad's car. My prom car. We shipped it New Jersey to Amsterdam for a family vacation in 82. It was an attraction everywhere we went. Most of their cars were the size of the trunk. Unfortunately here in NC, I haven't found anyone that'll touch it. Honestly, I'm skeptical of 40yr old digital cluster panel n variable venturi carbs myself. But that's what restomods are for. Right?

Interesting that the inner plungers on the valves don't need to be replaced. My thought would be to replace everything concerning the valves if you're in there anyway. Intriguing that those parts don't wear as much as the valve sleeves seem to do.

417hp at the wheels lol with standard tune
I would be more than happy with . It’s an amg
V12 beautiful car and no doubt when you get those twin turbos making boost will be an
Absolute monster that’s as smooth as a turbine . The amount of work you have put
Into this car is impressive and when you
Have finished the tune would be a dream car
For just about anyone I know I would love to own it after all the improvements you have done on it and with a set of pipes or without
Like most of your other cars is super car
Territory. I think it’s awesome that you
    Always complete your projects.
I have a few projects myself and would
Very much like to quiz you on some
Ideas to get some good results on a
Budget . I would love to put a whipper on my
211 e550 that is a nice car but due to myself not looking at what I was buying thought it
Was an amg as it has amg on the guards and boot lol . I didn’t know anything about merc,s
So silly me . Because the e63 is an amg naturally aspirated I didn’t think the e550 with amg on the boot etc wasn’t? But now know what to look for still a nice car and with 85,000km is still like new although 15yrs old.
    I found a Audi B6 avant 1 owner 5sp Manuel
1.8T black with black leather interior but blows lots of smoke so blown turbo should be a fun project awd think 500 hp is the goal
Your videos have fantastic detail keep them coming

I'm continually amazed at how Euro manufacturers (and seemingly them more than any others) manage to squeeze so many small points of failure into their cars - and in such a way that when failures do occur it exacts a repair cost exponentially higher than the value of the failed part itself.
Not trying to 'hate on' Euro cars, to be clear. I guess my point is that you'd think mgmt at Benz/BMW/etc would be displeased to see so many little 'gotchas' sidelining their customers' vehicles.

They are all engineered to fail now. The Germans taught it to the rest of the world, but at least Mercedes up to the mid 2000s are worth fixing because there is nothing like it to this day that compares to the driving experience.

    • @marski9956
      @marski9956 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

That's because Euro manufacturers try to squeeze as much power and efficiency as they can in the smallest package possible. That's how you get this V12 in a sedan with hydraulic/air suspension taking up space in the engine compartment. Japanese manufacturers don't even have anything close to offer, and US cars are huge compared to most Euro cars.

I just purchased an 05 cl600 with 38k miles. It honestly feels brand new, not sure where I should even start but replaced the plugs and radiator, may replace the abc fluid but notmsure if what's in it now is bad. Alex I purchased this car because I have learned to wrench on my euro cars myself, I was always so intimidated and would only wrench on my lexus gx 470's. I changed a rad on my 2001 330ci years ago. I had noticed a dribble of coolant on my drive so bought the rad and expansion tank. When I got th rad out, it had completely bowed at the bottom. As in, it wasn't even remotely flat bottomed anymore. Unreal that it hadn't completely ruptured and dumped all the coolant out 🤣
