    I just found this today and I have to say that I am impressed with your knowledge of the Makarov and it's variations. Wow. Great video. I have owned a Bulgarian Makarov and a Polish P64 for many years. I don't make a habit of shooting them, but when I do I enjoy them. The P64 kick is crazy and the double action trigger pull is a hoot, and I now understand why! I learned a lot from this video and I thank you for it! I will be looking at some of you other videos soon! Thanks again for your efforts!

    The thumb rest shelf on the feg models was the only thing that kept it importable. It was deemed a target sporting grip. We wouldnt have them without that. I have an rk61 slide barrel and trigger guard swapped on to mine, and had the slide milled for a meprolight bullseye sight.

    My East German has a hole drilled through the back of the grip, and it came with a paracord like cord about 4 ft long with a loop on one end, you could run the cord through the hole and tie a knot in to secure it as a lanyard. Simple, but certainly not your typical German engineering!

  • @bebopwing1
    @bebopwing1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I had a P64 that I regret selling. The trigger was hilarious, but it seemed like a well put together pistol. I still have an East German Mak, and it's surprising how expensive they've gotten, but when you think about it, it's a 60 year old heavily machined military collectable; we were just lucking to get them so cheap when we did.

    Solidly made, easy to maintain and ultra reliable, what's not to like about a Makarov? The only way you can screw them up is if you put the recoil spring on backwards. (The tight end of the spring goes on first!) Thanks for a new video about my favorite handgun.

    • @misha5670
      @misha5670 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Funny you should mention that. Early on in my FFL career, someone bought one and put the spring on in reverse, and then was very....upset with me that their gun didn't work properly.

      @@misha5670 I have fired by actual count over 11,000 rds through Makarovs, have handled scores of them, co-written 2 books, stripped them, repaired them, seen the video and gotten the tee shirt and can honestly say that the only thing that can stop a Makarov pistol is "Bubba".

    • @misha5670
      @misha5670 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@henrybrown8624 Yup, bubba can (and will) destroy anything. If you ever get wind of a set of authentic Chinese Type 59 grips, I'd like to replace the thumbrest grip on mine someday. But i would only want to do that with something Chicom. Putting a Russian or Bulgie grip on it would seem less desirable.

    A question for you Misha. When you were in Russia, whenever any native Russian speaker spoke English (either to you or at all), did they have that stereotypical accent that we hear in movies or in other media? The only Russians that I have met were in college and they tended to speak English quite well with minimal accent. Just a curious thought.

      @misha5670 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Makarov really isn't a mouse gun, or at the very least is right on that line. I say this because the grip fills the hand quite nicely. Also at 26 oz, its not terribly light. As to shooting, you can definitely go through a couple boxes in a day. More than that might start to get tiring?
