Excellent you finally got your hands on a Bluebird, Sir. Condition of this beautiful Bluebird is a credit to the owner, tough well built cars, all with 3 year, 100,000 mile warranty’s, thick self healing underseal. My dad had a G reg 1.6 Premium, Special offer £6300 new incl road tax, vw polo mk2 money ! typical poverty spec special edition of the time, but had pop up sunroof, tinted glass, 5 speed & power steering, a lot of car for the money
Yes sir, we finally got our hands on one of these, and it is an amazing example. No rust on this at all, very nice to drive and surprisingly charming. The Premium was actually far from premium, as this GS was far better equipped, but it compares well with the slightly later Sierra Azura.
Nice video Joseph, I remember a neighbour had a new one as a company car which was a brave and left field choice back in the 80s. He spent a considerable amount of effort showing my Father all the equipment it had as standard, which to be was considerable compared to the equivalent Sierra.
Yes, compared with a Sierra (as you know, I have tried one from just one year earlier), this Bluebird would have been very well equipped for the price, and it is also much easier to drive. They certainly were a bit more alternative back in the day compared with the established competition.
What a lovely example. 😍 Red looks great on bigger family cars like this Bluebird. My sister owned a black 1989 1.6 LS saloon in the late 1990s. It had matt black bumpers. Very well equipped for a model one up from the base with 4 electric windows and central locking but it lacked power steering (you had to move up to the LX for that) . Plain grey cloth trim and no rear armrest. Same wheel trims as this GS model but the centre wasn't painted a different colour. I took the LS for a spin around the block and it was awkward to pilot with the unassisted steering.
Yes, the unassisted steering would not have been much fun at all on the LS, sir! This was fine, very easy to drive by the standards of the late 1980s. The example is absolutely insane, the condition is far better than it even looks in the video, to be honest!
Another excellent Review Sir and another trip down memory lane for me, the papershop where I done my paper run, the owners used to have a bluebird for many years and on one of streets I delivered to had a Bluebird parked in it.
Thank you, sir! By the standards of the day, they seem to have been quite rust resistant, but these days they are all over thirty years old, so watching for corrosion is one of the most important things.
@@lloydvehicleconsulting Absolutely MR Lloyd it's a really lovely car. I discovered another UK based channel, CarSpyTV, he has an absolute pearl of a Škoda Octavia MK2, DSG, Elegance spec, wood and leather, best of all it's a petrol, definitely worth a look.

This is why I have the videos organised into playlists! I have reviewed something like 400-500 cars, so if I were to go through them all, it would take some considerable time. This Bluebird was absolutely immaculate.
The Bluebird became especially handsome after the facelift in 1988. This bright red was especially attractive. Interior space was indicative of the class until the Toyota Carina E came along with tardis like interior space. The higher trims were very plush and comfortable. All versions were quiet and composed but the 1.8 was a nice compromise, while the 2.0 litre should have satisfied most needs for power and acceleration. Tha hatchback was the more practical yet looked as smart as the Saloon. It was the Stanza in the USA and I believe that they had a Maxima version with a 3 litre V6 and a very slightly longer nose. The Vauxhall Cavalier came close as a good all rounder but the Bluebird always came better equipped trim for trim. Now a true deserved classic.
Sir, we did like this lovely T72 Bluebird. The interior is wonderfully typical of the period, and this was both comfortable and nice to drive. The 1.8 seemed pretty good, and I imagine that the 2.0 would have been even better. Very much a classic these days!
