- Subarnarekha River getalsud dam.The Subernarekha basin extends over States of Jharkhand, Odisha and comparatively smaller part in West Bengal having a total area of 29,196 Sq.km with a maximum length and width of about 297 km and 119 km. It lies between 85°8’ to 87°32’ east longitudes and 21°15’ to 23°34’ north latitudes. Situated in the north-east corner of the Peninsular India, the basin is bounded by the Chhotanagpur plateau on the north and the west,
No one knows the mystery behind the phenomena yet. Local tribal workers have been engaged in filtering sand and getting out gold from the river bed. One can extract some 60 to 80 gold particles in one month!

Subarnarekha River(also called Swarnarekha River) flows through the Indian states of Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha.
As per tradition, gold was mined near the origin of the river at a village named Piska near Ranchi. This is why it was named Subarnarekha, meaning ‘streak of gold’.Legend has it that traces of gold were found in the river bed. There it flows for 79 kilometres (49 mi) and joins the Bay of Bengal near Bichitra pur (odisha) The total length of the river is 475 kilometres (245 mi). The basin of the Subarnarekha is smaller amongst the multi-state river basins in India. The rain-fed river covers a drainage area of 18,951 km2.
Tributaries
The prominent tributaries of the Subarnarekha are Kharkai, Roro, Kanchi, Harmu Nadi, Damra, Karru, Chinguru, Karakari, Gurma, Garra, Singaduba, Kodia, Dulunga and Khaijori. The Kharkai meets the , Swarnarekha, which, translated into English, means the Golden Streak. Dusk is descending over the vast sandy bed of the river, now bathed in the golden hues of the setting sun. “ Rich in minerals-not just gold, but silver, copper and uranium-the river has attracted the attention of mines and factories since the British period. There is a gold mine near Nagri, for instance, and a copper factory in Mou Bhandar, also in Jharkhand. Both of them are on the banks of the river.
In recent times, many of the big businesses have shut shop and fled. There are large numbers of abandoned buildings that previously housed mines or factories. “It has been easy for the Maoists to influence the local people here,” “because they have shown the villagers how big corporations are grabbing their lands and livelihoods and depriving them of their dues.”

নদ নদী নিয়ে অনেক গুলো বই আছে।তবু বিজ্ঞান অন্বেষকের পত্রিকার বিশেষ নদী সংখ্যা এই সপ্তাহে প্রকাশ পেয়েছে। (বর্তমানে আমি এটি পড়ছি)বাংলা ও ভারতের নদী নিয়ে বেশ তথ্যবহুল পত্রিকা বলে আমার মনে হয়েছে দেখতে পারেন।এই পত্রিকা রবিসাহা,২নং ডেকারস কোলকাতা ৬৯, কলেজ স্ট্রিট অঞ্চলে মনীষা, পাতিরাম ও ধ্যান বিন্দু,তে পত্রিকা টি পাওয়া যাচ্ছে মুল্য ৭০টাকা। পত্রিকাটিতে বাংলার নদ-নদী নিয়ে প্রায় 300 টেরও বেশি বইয়ের নাম মূল্য এবং প্রাপ্ত স্থান দেওয়া আছে দেখতে পারেন।
আমার ইচ্ছা আছে এই নদীতে যাওয়ার ।
