As our church organist did in the 70s and is done to this day and has been done for a couole centuries almost, the organ is equipped with bass pedals and carries the underlying bass part.
I used to sit on the organist's bench as a kid with Harold (Mr. Line) and be fascinated how he was doing 2 to 4 things at once.
His old hands turning the page, hands playing the keys, hands pulling/pushing the levers/buttons/stops, feet bouncing over those big pedals and him smiling at me as i watched.
Mom was chior director and pianist and still teaches Advanced Russian Technique piano today at 88. In fact, she's napping after teaching 3 kids this morning.
    Great memories.
    Thanks for listening...

    • @jimmoore8951
      @jimmoore8951 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Ah yes... those memories. I grew up in a house with an organ played by the church's future organist (my sister). It was so fun to hop on it and try to play the music with my hands and feet... definitely paved the way for my drum skills when my sis moved out and we sold her organ to pay for my first drum kit

The best rhythm section in music history! Bonzo on fire. JPJ plays the electric piano, playing the bass pedals with his feet on Misty Mountain Hop. Both song titles were inspired by Tolkien's Lord of the Rings which Robert Plant was reading quite a bit on tour.

Love how you give Jonsey the respect. You got ears tuned to bass due to your HipHop appreciation.
It’s great to see as so many other reactors only hear and compliment the other 3, which is sad, as Jonsey does soooo much.
I kind of wish you could tune out Jonsey completely as people would then realise how important he is to every song.
An equal to the other 3 in every way.

Che and La another fabulous reaction. Thank you so much for taking the time reacting to this phenomenal live recording. Fasten your seat belts it’s about to get real loud up in hear. You will be blown away with the rest of the album Jimi, JPJ, Bonzo and Robert will take you on a trip of massive improvisation for the remainder of this masterpiece. Bonzo and JPJ are the band. Great bands have a great percussionist. The bass player is basically a percussionist with strings. That is what my guitar teacher told me 46 yrs ago. I started playing bass at 6 yrs old. I only played for 9 yrs. I still remember him telling me the most important person or persons in a band are the drummer and the bassists. With the Zeppelin machine you have that, and for the icing on the cake you have one of the 🐐 🐐 on guitar who is out of this world. Then Robert probably one of the 🐐 🐐 as a front man this band was very special. I would have loved to be at this concert. Gentleman thank you for your expertise reactions keep up the great work…

They were kind of a jam band live. Long solo's, different vocal melodies, so different from popular acts now where everything's perfect or autotuned or pre-recorded or whatever. They never used other musicians onstage, the 4 of them just played their songs really live. And they liked doing it, that's why their concerts were 3+ hours so often.

Compare this to the studio version - the change in singing / production is so interesting. He uses his voice in really different way. Both amazing but a bit of a different feeling in the emotion.

You guys really should check out Dave Matthews Band. Their drummer, Carter Beaufort is amazing. Check out Tripping Billies or Granny live.

There's video of Jimmy Page playing country music when he was a teen. But then he became a rock god.

JPJ was on keys, playing bass with either with his left hand or pedals, I'm not sure which. There was not another bass player on stage.

Re missing classics cause its so early:
Check out the LZ dvd with ayers rock on cover (orange-red rock and blue sky).
It has a 1970 show and maybe all of a 1979 knebworth and some other 73 stuff including acoustic set feom 73 or 5.

Not sure about this song in concert, but sometimes JPJ played bass with pedals while playing keys.

Are you kidding me? Jpj switch back and forth between base on a bass guitar and bass on keyboards and pedals and whatnot all over the place. And that is something that became popular later in the hardcore party funk music like for example cameo roller skates in 1980. Or say The Gap Band from around that time with all of their party hits. Same freaking thing and in fact Stevie Wonder did it early in 73 with his hit Boogie on reggae woman.

This version of Over The Hills and Far Away is good, but the live version of How The West Was Won is superb.

Agreed, there's some nice improv on this one but the How The West Was Won version is tighter and packs more of a punch.

I got this album for Christmas in 1976 when I was 14. I love it, BUT - I think, for a first listen, you guys would be better served to do the "studio" versions of these songs. Their studio production values were very high, and you just don't get the original mix with the live versions. But yes, the live energy is awesome, even half a century later...
