I have a Shoei helmet and I actually had the wasp fly into my vent on the top and stung me like crazy. When I finally stopped the bike and got the helmet off...there the little bugger was. Yellow jacket. Not much fun when those things get in your helmet. Glad you were okay.
I had a wasp fly into my helmet when I was about 22, by the time I managed to pull over and get my lid off the lil fuc*#@r had stung me on the right ear about 6 times. After lying on the ground with the right side of my head in grass trying to cool my ear down for 20 minutes, I'd calmed myself enough to go home. Problem was, there was no way I could get my helmet back on over my very swollen and extremely painful ear, so besides all the discomfort, pain and stress I'd already endured I had to push my bike nearly 4 miles home. I never ever ride with my visor open, EVER ! lol
Thanks Jim! You’re right it really does hurt! But to be honest it’s difficult to avoid the little buggers visor up or down. For me it could have been a lot worse if I wasn’t wearing sunglasses 😩
I have a Dakar ('05) here in Korea. How's it been for you? I really like mine. When did you shoot this? You have a new subscriber. Also middle-aged. Also terrorizing the countryside on a Dakar. Cheers from Daegu, South Korea. Eric
Hi Eric! Thanks for watching my video and for your comments! I bought the Dakar specifically to do The Pan American highway and it was a perfect bike for such a trip. Thanks for subscribing we hope you continue to enjoy our adventures and most of all, continue to ride safely!
Hi Gary, I did have a 1200 but was recommended to use a smaller, lighter less complicated bike for the trip. You can certainly do the trip on a 1200 GS - many people do. On balance, the 650 was the right bike for me and having a smaller bike is helpful when parking inside hotels, etc! Also, much easier to pick up the countless times I dropped it😩! Thanks for watching and hope that helps! 😀👍
Great content. Interesting on so many levels. BMW show looked great would love to have seen more! You are very brave...

Ouch!!! 😱😱 that’s really painful - in comparison, mine was tame! 😀
Thanks Sue! Not sure about being brave - spent most of the trip being scared! (Especially from Mexico downwards!) 😱

Now that you have a lot of riding experience, do you think a GS 1200 would be fine for this ride ?
