@@KachinaUthabiti there's correct ways to sand though and here you can see it has tons of texture from head to toe. Usually when you sand and then prime for painting it should be completely smooth. This piece is definitely not smoothed. Which is fine if that's what you're going for but if you're going for smooth this ain't it. The part that always takes the most time imo is the sanding. Sand, sand again, fill, sand, sand, sand, sand. You need to do alot of sanding. Perhaps he didn't use different grits of sanding papers. Usually you start out with one of the rough ones, then slowly work your way up through the gentler ones. Making it so every time you sand it gets smoother and smoother. Or he needs a filler to fill the gaps in the filament then sand, again. It's always alot of sanding either way.
Don't forget about sealing afterwards to! A good sealant really helps in q lot of cases.weather you want a glossy or matt finish or something else funky, it helps protect and unify a piece. And if you want any shiny pieces for example or a piece that's got a seperate texture, just use multiple sealants
I came into 3D printing from being a modeler, so prep, prime, sand, paint, sand, paint, clear coat is natural. Go join some modeling groups, you will learn everything you need to know about paint.
That is seriously the only thing I struggle with!!! And I thought I could paint anything! Turns out 3D printing is a whole new medium and beast. I knew there had to be a way.
A good tip is that when drawing out the design on the cat make the pencil marks lighter because it is so much easier to paint over it.(no hate it looks great just a tip that may help)
I did a lot of 3d printing and painting for my thesis back in college--I definitely recommend Bondo spot and glazing putty, especially for models that have deep grooves between layers of filament. Just apply it and sand it! Make sure to wear a mask and sand in a well-ventilated area. For priming you should try out the MTN Gesso primer. Gesso traditionally goes on canvas, but this stuff was crazy good with my prints. Took way less coats to get to pure white than other primers/spraypaints. Good luck with your future projects!
I recommend using generic paint like acrylic or something! It'll probably be easier to do the white in spray paint, but it will come out much smoother and look better. Still, this is awesome!
It's looks so, so cute, I saw how many people were hating on this on tiktok when they do not know how much time it will actually take to make something like this
This turned out very well, tip tho- whenever you use paint pens or other paint, use like a varnish or mod podge to finish it all off so the paint doesn't chip or rub off
hai! artist here 🔥 draw your lines more clean and lighten up on the pencil, drawing lighter makes it eaiser to paint / ink over. anyways, this looks really good, i love the cat table ToT!! dont stop creating art, i love the table alot and if you were to sell them id buy it.
If you want something smoother, airbrushing and some masking tape is the way to go, i'd also recommended sketching but honestly I kinda like the scratchiness to it The 3d print has a certain texture where combined with the paint job gives it the wooden sculpture vibe? Overall good job man! Looking forward to your future stuff :]
I think you can add the details while sculpting turbo granny. Like the cat paws, the word, ears and etc.. Then sand it down, cure and spray paint it. Idk the process. 🫶🏻✨ Additionally, you actually did pretty good job!!😊
Looks cute and good, if you ever feel lazy, print out the images for the eyes/ anything by you need to paint/draw and water stick it to it and it’ll look like you painted it, granted it takes work to perfect the amount to put on
Im sure a lot of products used in doll customization videos would work here. Maybe get some epoxy sculpt and/or a sealant spray to smooth everything out, as well as using the spraypaint you mentioned.
Try airbrushing the base coat if you’re ever looking for a nice consistent coverage. You can also stencil in the big shapes and detail like you do with marker
Honestly I think the paint markers look great, gives it a homemade feel. You probably just need more practice using them on a surface like that, especially since it has curves
Damn, i started painting my 3d prints a few weeks ago and using paint markers to paint the whole thing is insanity lmao, i do need to get me some of those for the little details tho.
goes to show just how much diatance helps with something look clean, and how working on something for so long makes you see them 100x easier, close up you can see the imperfections, but as soon as you take a step back its sleek as hell
i recommend sanding a bit more, then using gesso as your primer/base layer. for the actual plain white, for sure would recommend spray paint! for the details, i know the paint markers are convenient (trust, i use them constantly) but if you want cleaner edges/lines and better color fill i would personally use acrylic paint and normal brushes. it'll for sure help with better color coverage and it'll save you from using up your paint markers on bigger projects like this! :3
If you have a computer id highly recommend trying to learn blender! Its kinda a big venture but the first steps aren't too hard, its super fun and it can help a lot with printing
Paint markers are great for the details, tho if you want nicer lines: Using a paint brush made for lines can help, the bristles kinda act like a suspension? try to make your original pencil lines smoother it'll make it easier do the paint Supporting your hand, wrist and arm is important both for smoother lines but also if you paint unsupported for a long time you can hurt yourself With a clean damp brush you can go over over the edges of the line to either correct a mistake or make the line thinner when the paint is still wet. If it's dry you can use white paint. All that said you've made a really cute table!
Oh also quick tip on you’re magnets I know you glued them but if you didn’t put some glue on top just a little and into the inside crack that holds the magnets so they don’t pull out I know you glued it but magnets are frustrating to me they get so stuck just a tip lol
I finally just realized what it was I thought the piece was missing that set it apart from the original, I think what’s missing is that you need to add some depth and shading around the face and neck to give the art a bit more pop, since it looks like the neck and arms are one thing (which they are but it’s the same situation for the first piece) instead of separate body parts, again though no hate, the piece looks great 👍
I've done a ton of painting and I honestly prefer acrylic paint their easier to work with.. ALSO! When your using pencil, apply a very light layer of white over the top so you can't see the marks, and so the pencil doesn't smudge! Really cute table btw!!
I don't know if you already do this. I don't have my glasses so I can't really see properly but try a racing. The pencil marks or making very light pencil marks. When you're trying to do the outline of things and sometimes take a step back to look at it. Cause when you're looking at something up. Close and look really good, but then we take a step back it doesn't. Also, try taking a couple of breaks sometimes that can also help with writers block. I am an artist too. So that's normally what I do or I just sit there. And stare at it and overthink it, but I wouldn't suggest doing that😅
Tips: - some people say use resin, bondo, or whatever but I think one of the best things to use is spackling. It’s cheap and easy to work with. Sand the model once then cover the rough areas with spackle and the less rough with spackle diluted with water so you can get a thin layer on it. After it dries it’s lot of sanding. I start with 220 grit and work up to 2000 to get a good finish - use spray paint for general or base color - use acrylic paint for details -clear coat 3d printing/ painting is a bit of learning curve but Honestly I think turbo granny cat looks great
Try centering the plates so the weights will be balanced properly and of course this is a precaution due to it being 3D printed anyways love your content😊
I suggest maybe use a clear coating spray like a clear acrylic spray to make it have the glossy look. But, it depends on how you feel and how you want the end product to look. Wish you the best ❤
If it’s any help since you said advice is wanted the paint you used is a little clumpy not sure what kind the white is but whatever paint make sure to fully let you’re layers dry otherwise another coat could lift the last coat I know it’s hard to wait but I love this also I think you should make more little furniture like a small decor shelf or like some decor figures ! Even a figure of a character you like the 3d work was also so cool Great job!
Try splitting up the parts and sanding splitting them up can help less printing cost. You could also make it hollow but honestly that tends to make a lot of supports so I don’t really recommend it but to lower the cost of printing it and getting more material you could split up the parts at the head, arms, midsection, tail and legs
For projects like this you can make indents it the project for the face and kanji to make it easier to make them precise when colord so you can put paint in the indents and just wipe away the axese before it dries If just males it easier and cleaner, helps with the anxiety of straight lines lol
For the gold stuff, put a matte gold/dull yellow on the bottom, then use a gold paint and paint on with a brush. You can usually get all tbese colors in most paint kits/sets
It looks wondrous. But maybe next time, you could do the facial features slightly indented or stick out to make it seem better. Not being rude, just dropping some tipps❤
I would recommend using an Acrylic paint or spray paint for the colour (plus an undercoat and over coat to prevent chipping) , you can use masking tape or stencils to get smoother lines and a cleaner colour dispercity, markers should only be used to outline shapes or do details, not to colour large spots, also using a light greyed pencil to trace out smaller shapes like the ears/face would make the final product come out much smoother and fluid, also for extra detail you could make the collar 3D and have it stick out slightly more, that way it stands out from the rest of the sculpture and looks like an item the cat is wearing rather than a painted on feature,
It’s cute but either spray paint or acrylic paints would help cover more and not look so scratchy if that’s helps
