WHAT do you do? Easy.
.
All you need is a Short Cable, a Snatch Block, and a tow strap or rope or long cable.
This video shows a pretty easy case. Its not always so clean and such good weather. I've done this with the wheels buried in the mud while its snowing and coooold. Always works.
Sometimes you may have to dig down through the mud to reach the towing eye on the front of the loader. Yucky, but it works.
Thanks a million for this video. I backed over a road edge into a swamp, lucky there was a good tree around. I ran up to the hardware store after watching your video, picked up a snatch block and out that skidsteer came. Saved me a day of production and hundreds to pay someone to come down and pull me out. Excellent idea! I've been an operator for 20 plus years and I've been stuck with no other machine on the job site and the bucket curl won't always do it. Pretty crafty thinkin dude.
Genius. I carry a 100’ cable with me just for getting out in a pinch. Use it often. I’ll carry a snatch block from now on. Good tip
I've been operating Skid since I was about 10 years old, now I'm 40 and second generation contractor. I thought this video was pretty damn innovative when all options with the bucket are expired.

I am surprised that he didn't rip out that newly laid drainage pipe! Prob shouldn't have been straddling it in the first place, with the soft dirt from the trench.
Go with tracks. Less likely to get stuck. Also if that cable snaps, you are literally going to eat it.
First yr or so, with my new tracked bobcat, thought it was almost impossible to get one stuck. 20 yrs later, well, I have a few stories, but it is in my back yard, not where I thought I would have to leave it. They DO get stuck.
Tracks cost too much more if you work it right you don't need them except specific circumstances. Plus they run off if you're in the mud that's note.
But tires go flat and put all your weight on four little spots instead of spreading it out to not get stuck. As far as cost more it is more subjective. It only costs what you are willing to put up with for a certain price point.
@@Freeknickers24 I was the only tree guy fool to buy a dedicated track machine 20 yrs ago in this county, it wasn't months, till all the other tree guys ( I was still one of the NEW guys) were calling me to get them un stuck, or finish a job the wheeled machines couldn't. Even had a guy who moves houses call on me on occasion.

Dude!!!! Incredible. I got a dingo buried today and no amount of bucket work would free me. We had to jerk it out with an underpowered tractor. I do tree work and have all the rigging gear needed to do this. I wish I saw this 12 hours ago!!

I used to be a plant fitter and drive those on and off trucks. I also compete offroad. That was a neat trick and anyone who says it isn’t should back flip as hard as they can to see if their head will fit up their own bum!

Excellent tip, thanks. Skid steers have way less traction than I thought before I got one. Mine will spin all four wheels at the smell of a slightly muddy slope. Physics.
Great innovative solution! After watching your video I got stuck in my skid steer and used a variation of your technique. I wrapped a chain around my bucket and attached it to a strap around a nearby tree. I then raise my bucket so I could wrap the chain under it pulling me out of my stuck position. If I hadn't seen your video earlier that morning I would have resorted to shovel and sand which does not always work.
This technique works! Thank you. I used it to get my tracked unit out of a marshy area of my property. 👍👍
I actually uprighted a 310c backhoe that fell on a slope using the bucket and a cable. Be careful of a cable breaking.. it’ll fly back and decapitate you

If that considered no seat time, then what would seat time get you? I've seen workers that wouldnt know where to go once the tires start spinning and would sometimes just keep spinning them. But hey, I'm sure you never get stuck, even in the thickest of mud or you probably just pick the machine up with those balls of steel I'm sure you brag about.

Second, any skilled operator would do is look behind them to make sure it's clear, put the bucket in the ground vertically and rock it up while reversing. Operators get paid by the hour, a lot of owner operators bid jobs at a cost. You think you would spend 45 mins setting this up or doing the simplest trick in the book. For all you negative commenters, go pound sand, this video is crazy overkill for a simple,easy, fix. Maybe go engineer a sound response. Apologize? Ummm...no. Experience in these exact situations doesn't warrant an apology. And why trash mexico, I'm not american at heart. But we all immigrated here anyway so who are you to talk big guy? Nicely done,,, everyone here cause they buried their bobcat? Had to use a chain under the bobcat attacjed to tree, then used bucket to scoot up a 30 degree hill backwards. Giggidy

This is my wife's account, but thank you, thank you, thank you!!! My buddy dropped the rear end of my T770 in a hole so the rear end was in about 3-4 ft of clay sucking mud and the Bobcat was angled up at about 30-40 degrees. I thought we would need a dozer until I remembered your technique. I had a 10 ton snatch block and enough 3/8 inch transport chain to pull this machine UP and out of a sucking hole on 1 try. Then pivoted it right to avoid the stump in front of him. I have the "who's the man" bragging rights for at least a month. Thanks again!

after getting stuck in a creek bed I watched your video and ordered cable and snatch block from Amazon .My t 590 track loader was stuck real bad . Rigged it up and it worked so good.
For all the geniuses here, who know the bucket prob would have pushed him out, that means they have prob been stuck, or at least been there watching someone get stuck. Looks like he DIDN'T use the bucket, to show how to use a redirected cable. But , hey, after 20 yrs of running a track loader, AND getting stuck like an idiot, and then recovering, what do I know?

Dislike. All you needed was a couple of boards, 4 at most, and some rocks or blocks of wood I've operated in the Appalachian Mountains and around Houston and in Florida. 20 dollars of wood, if not free, would've been a lot faster. Simple operator mechanics.
what were the sizes of cable, pulley, cable ends?
The long cable is 3/8 steel with a high rating. It has professionally swaged ends. I use if for pulling big trees off hills.
The snatch block is something like this one:

I have sometimes used a shorter 3/8" cable to fasten to the boom and go around the snatch block pulley. Then attach that short cable to either a logging chain or a nylon ratchet strap. Both are adjustable for length. I have hooked to trees or a vehicle that is 20 feet away up to 200 feet away.
You need to use your judgement, but if you are really stuck and putting a lot of strain on the cable, it would be wise to throw a heavy blanket over the cable. That might lessen the drama if the cable breaks. Usually though, the load is not very much. You can only pull so hard after all, before the loader will move. Even sideways.
I put mine full throttle and lift myself up with the arms and bucket down completely and push the bucket forwards

I’ve considered a winch many times. I do a lot of logging and it would be handy.
But you would probably mount it on quick tach and it would be in the garage when you need it.

Great fix i just got stuck today moving deep snow and sliding to the bottom of a hill . I had my ass up against a tree and all four spinning I used the bucket to lift the wheels high enough to put boards under them and got free . Still lost half a hour .
Huh never really thought about using this method. I've just usually seen people getting a truck and attaching a cable to the skid steer and pulling the skid steer out from where ever its stuck.
Thats a good method too, Explorer. IF you happen to have a truck sittin around and close enough to use a cable tow.
Handy trick ima have to add a snach block to my tool box for just in case lol

You can use a heavy nylon tie down strap to extend the cable length. Cheaper than cable.

You make a good point, Julian. One is more likely to have a chain available than a snatch block and cable.
Running a chain through the front cleat on the skidder' chassis makes for kind of a gnarly "block" but might do in a pinch. You'll need a pretty strong chain to tolerate the friction of going through the cleat. There is an increased risk of breaking the chain between the cleat and the boom. Something to keep in mind. If your chain is questionable, let the new guy do it. :-)

I tried this and it totally worked! Thanks so much for the tip. I used a 9’ 3/8” wire rope with loops and 3/8” snatch block with some shackles. Had to step it down to 5/16” to hook onto the Bobcat. Rest was chain. Worked my way out in two tries. I’ll keep it handy for the next time.

Buy something with more than 6” of ground clearance and you won’t have this problem. You should never be “stuck” in an area you can easily walk.
Great idea, Scott. I'm trying to think of something that cannot get stuck when pushing the envelope on steep terrain with lots of mud. Let see. Wheeled loader? Nope. D9 dozer? Nope.
Excavator (any size)? Nope. (but I have to say if you can't get an excavator unstuck you must have dropped into a sink hole.)

If your going to go grab all that equipment, get a strap for the tree, only an asshole puts a cable directly on a tree. Only if it’s the only option should this even be considered.

Just what i always carry 350' of cable in the back of the truck. Or 47 chains. My mind is blown. I don't know how people this stupid can afford equipment. O that's rite probably a rental. My best advice for you bro is to never step in foot and another piece of equipment as long as you live.

With that being said, u try to leave yourself a way out when working in shitty conditions, so straddling the Culvert may have not been the best decision, because you're left yourself only one way to go when u got stuck. Hopefully u learned a powerful tip in installing a culvert. And like my dad told me when i was growing up, "iam not mad, just disappointed. " except he was mad also. Good luck.

There are lots of answers of course. But, this trick has saved me LOT$ of time over the years. I have not used it often, but each time I did, its a big time and work saver.

B Farms - I’ve got at least 4000 hours operating skid loaders. Your comment is ignorant. You can’t always get out with the bucket. There is no way of telling for sure if this was one of those cases.
