    Great review Peter. Trumpeter really do have the worlds best packaging eh?? It's also nice to see they are giving us some bulkheads for the hull and moulding in halves to accurately produce the bow. Much better than the Titanic. May I suggest you look at the Tamiya instructions for a painting guide and also consider LP paints as they have a few specific Japanese Navy colours. Just noticed.. it doesnt say "Yamato" anywhere?? Must be a licensing thing, or Chinese laws about what you can and can't write on your packaging??

    • @JeffDonahueScaleModeling
      @JeffDonahueScaleModeling 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I noticed that too, no Yamato on the box. Here is the US the box is a little different. Here the box clearly says Yamato over a big Japanese flag and the manufacturer is Gallery Models and MRC. Same art work and as far as I can tell and the kit is exactly the same. Jeff

    1:11:04 is a sink mark Peter. There's another directly above that one and then some more down the length of the hull. best get filling buddy. They are caused by the thick round sections on the inside where the screws are fitted. This is truly Trumpeters best 1/200 Hull yet!! The plating may be a little heavy?, but the Bow is stunning.

      @@jimhantsch Well I have to say having a look at your channel I would not be throwing stones at all, In Fact I really would find yourself away from swallowing your whole foot before it chokes you, Please let us all know about how brilliant your channel is and the amazing content spread over 21 with 3 hidden videos, Amazing,, Nigel may bloody count rivets but at least he can count and yes he does have a closer look at kits, but he is not in anyway a turn off to the average modeller, in fact he is brilliant because he takes time to have a decent look at what people are going to spend money on and that stuff is hard to come buy, Hurting the Hobby mate you are a dead set tosser , He has done so much for the Global modelling community , more than your attempts so far, And I will wager his nearly 19,000 subs to the 6 family members who support you and your special needs , Grow up and Here is a recommendation for you, As the Good Lord said to Moses " GO FORTH AND MULTIPLY "

  • @NigelsModellingBench
    @NigelsModellingBench 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    Hi Peter, I would recommend Tamiya LP8 for the lower hull and LP12 Kure Arsenal for your hull/superstructure. The deck could be painted LP16 Deck Tan and the Linoleum could be painted with LP17. The reason I recommend LP paints is you dont have to use a Primer, they are Tamiyas latest colour matched colours and they are tough when dry.

    Hi Peter. that ship is really massive! it looks great. 2800 parts is crazy. and the price too. i will enjoy following your build. the dent you mention on the hull could be a sink mark. sometimes when cools too rapidly after injected the plastic shrinks and if there’s no ribs behind to support it will sink in. but nothing a little putty can’t take care off. small issue i believe. enjoy building it.

    Hi Peter, wow, now over 1,200 views. That's really good. I had to set down and watch it again this morning while the house was nice and quiet. This is an amazing kit. The molding is very good. I really like that hull. Those couple of little sink marks will be easy to fix. This is going to take a lot of room to build. I'm sure the model is longer than my workbench. You know you have already built a bigger ship than this. The QM2 is almost 90 m. longer and a couple of meters wider than Yamato. This is going to be a lot of fun to build. Have a great day. Jeff

    Iowa Class had a beam of 108 feet as the Panama Canal was 110 feet wide. It limited the guns to 16". It would have been very unstable when firing a broadside. If the guns were bigger. The Yamato's guns were 18" thus requiring a wider beam for stability when firing a broadside. This is a great kit. Enjoy the build.

    Howdy. Was going to recommend Model Monkey for 3d "bits" but he only seems to have IJN ventilators.
    Panama Can lock (original ones) were 900 x 110 x 40 feet, so, US ships held to WL dimensions of ±880 x 108 x 35 as a maximum.
    And, while larger than your tub, that kit would fit on your sofa :-)
    You'll need about a pint of Kure gray and Hull Red for this beastie. You will have the exciting bit of having a large number of superstructure decks which were covered in russet-red-brown linoleum, which will make for some evil masking.
    Neat Yamato triva:
    There was an elevator in the central command tower.
    Much of the ship had air conditioning to combat hot Pacific weather.
    Before the last battle, the decks were "painted" with ash and turpentine to darken them (many arguments on what color that was)
    IJN fielded an "canister" anti-aircraft shell for the 18" guns, but those were never actually used.

    Ok , Wooden deck issue, how do we secure the wooden deck to the plastic one ? , I have tried super glue, areldite , wood glue & so on none really work well especially in a high temperature country such as Australia , we need a work around this problem , one idea I have had is to drill small holes through the plastic deck put the wooden deck down flip it over the glue it from behind & in the holes that are drilled using the holes as anchors for the wooden deck, Peter what do you think ?.

    I think at the end of ww2, the Japanese ship builders and engineers burned and destroyed all of the drawings and engineering blue prints for the yamoto battle ship . Thats what I have heard and that's why there is not much on the yamoto battle ship apart from a few photos. And during it's construction the battle ship Yamoto was constructed in complete secrecy so that probably has contributed to the lack of information or facts about the ship. Suggestion what if they IJN had the chance to convert a Yamoto battle ship to a aircraft carrier WAW that would have been something to see ! . Thanks for the show and information on this splendid model a possible future project for me to do.
