I've always loved drawing parallels between medieval/celtic music and Chinese/Japanese traditional music ( know they are not all the same thing but along the same lines). Interesting that the dulcimer is used in medieval music ad Chinese traditional music..

Interesting how it still sounds distinctly Japanese. You know when you hear someone speaking a language you can't understand but you recognize the sounds as being from that language? This is what it feels like to me. Even being played by western instruments, the sequence of notes are very much Japanese style, especially the flute.

I didn't even really hear it as medieval. Just the normal naruto theme without electric guitars.

As I just recently started to watch Naruto, this for me is the best thing that came from it so far. The track is amazingly powerful and enchanting! And inspiring! Beautiful cover!

Although I think the manga is better 😬 Only because I think that there is some nuance that the anime doesn't include!!! fuck this made me laugh pretty hard, considering I'm from norway :') Sasugeir kinda sounds like Asgeir, which was the name of this pretty big figure on kids tv back in the day, which adds even more to it
the murderous tragedy of Sasugeir
"Naruthor ran after Sasugeir fleeing Konoheim. Sasugeir was so sure of his destiny of vengeance, but Naruthor could not let his brother in arms travel down such a path of darkness. Sakustrid cried for her unrequited love, begging Naruthor to bring him home.
They met at the valley, a place known to be inhabited by trolls and elves and other dark beings, where Naruthor called out for his brother to come home, but Sasugeir would not have it, and so they fought. Sasugeir attacked throwing a saex as Naruthor blocked with his axe. Shield clashed against shield as the two brothers made at each other with axes and spears.
As the battle escalated, Sasugeir tapped into his dark cursed Sami magic to gain power, but just as he was about to gain the upper hand, the power of the 9 tailed fox awakened, and like an ulfhednar, Naruthor crouched to all fours, growling and foaming at the mouth in a trance of primal fury, transforming into the very animal himself. It was a battle of the fates, the power of the berserkers against the black magic of the Sámi!

Even though it’s played by European instruments and has that medieval feel to it, it still distinctly sounds Japanese and would probably go unnoticed if put into the actual soundtrack
That's because music in other cultures often sound different not just because of instruments used, but also because scales are somewhat different. I'm not musical expert or anything so I can't explain it properly, though you can find plenty of explanations even here on YT.
