  • Apistogramma Cacatuoides is a South American dwarf cichlid. Females lay their eggs on the top of a cavity, cave like structure. She takes care of the eggs while the male guards the territory. Once the salmon color eggs hatch, the female becomes even more protective of their territory and fry.
In this tank there are two male and two female apistos. Both females spawned and the eggs were fertilized by the alpha-male. The females fiercely guard the fry and do not let any other fish in the same area, including the "father". They take the fry out swimming and move them around by sucking them up in their mouth and dropping them off where they would like them.

Very good partner, I loved your video, I wanted to ask you a favor, I want to create a video in Spanish about the breeding of the cacatoid apistogram and I would love to use your video in the background. Of course I would leave your link in the description in addition to naming your channel, but I do not know if it would seem good to you, I am waiting for your answer, for me it would be a real pleasure to use the images of your wonderful copies. a big greeting

Great video, i bought two pairs of cacatuoides myself, hope to see some fry soon :) The good thing about this fish is that the female is really nice too, not just the male

I'll have to post some updates. A few of the fry did survive and are large enough to swim with the others.

Several years later... I have the same species. I brought 6 of them originally to put in my 150l tank, one of them disappeared :( but the other 5 are doing well. I have a dominant male and a female in a 37l tank because they had their first spawn a few days ago in the 150 and I moved the rock they spawned in to the 37 away from all the other fish. The female ate the first batch of eggs, so I am hoping for another spawn in the next couple of weeks.

+Jake Wier They really are beautiful fish. They really do have nice colors for freshwater fish. The females change from a dull to bright yellow depending on the mood. I'll post more of them soon.

This is 1 of the best TH-cam videos I send on Apistogramma but I like to no if you can keep a blueram in the same tank with live plants and rock and can you keep them in a 10g tank

Beautiful make , what do you feed the fry

Nice job, did you try to get them to breed deliberately or did it just happen? Thinking of getting a pair when I get my new tank but would also like some other fish.

+Dan Wiles It was sort of intentional. I had two males and two females and placed them in the large tank. They (one of the males has since gone missing) are in a 90 gallon live plant tank with a lot of driftwood, a lot of live plants, and "caves" of rock structure and halved pots. They share the tank with six siamese algae eaters and two blue rams.
My thought was, If it happened it happened, if it didn't it didn't. Once they were put in the tank they mated within a few days. Now, it is a constant cycle of mating between the two females.

ive read that apisto are generally of the less aggressive of the cichlids...is the behavior better with 1male/2female
    or
    1male/1female?
    thanks!

Beautiful little fish. Unfortunately I took some bad advice (that cardinal tetras are good tank mates).. and am having trouble getting any fry. I think as soon as 5he lights go out the tetras lose their colours and eat the lot. Not sure what to do as I can’t catch any of the fish as it’s a heavily planted tank.

@@joeyripswell I can’t remember as it was a while ago when I wrote that message but I think I removed the tetras... had lots of fry 🙂

Do they require live food and temps in the 80's?

72 to 85 no live food necessary but hard to get them to eat flakes. They prefer pellets

What is the size of the tank shown here? Thanks in advance for your reply.

    • @Mrealm1
      @Mrealm1  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The tank that the apistos live and breed in is a 90 gallon talk. They have a lot of driftwood, live plants and "caves".
