Alternative to Tip #1 - If you let go of the cannon, then press F to use the cannon right as the opponent's cannonball is about to hit, you can "snap" to the cannon, which cancels the knockback from their cannonball. This usually gives you enough time to load your own cannonball and fire a shot before their next shot comes in.
You can watch streamers like Boxy to see this in action. They do it all the time.
Instead of boosting your hourglass streak, why not give the enemy a hug and boost everybody's morale instead.

I did not know you couldn't be harpooned off of wheel. The big brain tactics i showed up for.
But it did :') maybie you need to be turning the wheel to not get harpooned, i dunno...
The thing with eating worms is so useful, I do it always in hourglass, and it really helps, people literally can’t do anything while they’re blinded

Here's a tip! If you shoot enough cannons at them, they'll sink. Hope this helps yall out 😎

About the cannon loading thing, you can also load while using sniper or holding food to eat.
A way to do this is by "activating" your cannons, which is literally just using it. After loading the cannon and unloading it(or shooting it), you can just reload a new one then switch to something else and it would still work. Difficult to explain by words but I think tatotunes has a video on it.
I started hg just to get better at pvp but now I want the blessing. My best advice is just stick with it. You will 100% get better, but you’re gonna have to lose a lot in the beginning which is frustrating
Hows it going for you? I lost my first 2 matches already, all I'm doing is repairing, throwing out water, only for the ship to catch up to me from behind, and hitting me again. Repeat until I die. :(
Sorry I don’t check notifications too much. I gave up after getting to around level 65. Im just playing other games now. My recommendation would be to do solo. It’s hard at first for sure but you get matches the quickest, especially with Athena’s because everyone does reapers. And you get good at everything on the ship so you can feel confident doing stuff free world on a solo sloop
the best way to get treasure/earn $$ is to Farm orbs as the Order of Soul's emissary...do a few forts, then a few orbs, turn all of it in and you got like 400-500k and it takes about an hour or so

You know what helped me, I would matchmake and dive, when I rose above the waves I told my opponent they could sink me if we do some tdming. I repeated this for naval and boarding. Im still bad but improvements have been made because of this

I’ve been grinding for an actual year. 365 days of getting on almost every day and hitting it, getting a crew together and grinding and I just can’t win. I’m lvl 73 in Servants and I’m so done man. I get matched against a loss farmer, and then immediately after the best players the game can find. Everyone always says I’m just too negative but I get on excited to play every day, maybe make half a level from losing or winning one fight, and then we’re sunk again. For anyone that wants my stats, 46 enemies sunk, 452 losses.
If you can’t win hourglass and want the curse just loss farm its not dumb

Im grinding for the skeleton curse and I'm about to give up because the last fight I was part of took over an hour only for me to use countless cannonballs only for the opponent to fix all the holes in mere seconds and I had to give up because I had to go. A couple times I landed all 10 cannonballs into their broadside just for them to repair miss all their shoots and I was forced to give them the win.
Just give up if it tskes longer then 15 minutes then q again
Next time try to board and hold pressure, just be careful not to send your ship into oblivion.

Most useful tips I've gotten are: Repair holes that are not available to the opponent, expose your left side of the ship since the middle part of the ship can have a maximum of 3 holes opposed to the 4 on the right side, repair front holes first and when you can back side, because most of the time the middle part of the ship is getting hit. So priority for repairing would be 1# holes that cannot be reopened unless the opponent has to change their position, for example if they are hitting left side, repair right side. 2# front holes, 3# back holes, 4# middle holes.
Try to keep up pressure by hitting your shots (This is purely practice), and you don't have to immediatelly repair a hole, managing to bail and keep up pressure and juggling between those 2 comes with experience.
Repair your wheel, its very important to keep angle.
I am not the greatest at PvP, but these tips have helped me, and I don't feel so threatened when the opponent barrages me with cannonballs anymore, since what I've noticed is that they typically hit the same holes again and again and they are not doing further damage to my ship, so I just bail and waste a great amount of their supplies.
No reason to repair a hole that is going to be reopened 2 seconds later.
Get used to how much your ship turns when you turn your wheel, this way you can circle your opponent and not have a painful long match, thats especially important if you are solo. Having the ship have a perfect rotation will make it so you can always have angle without needing a second pirate to steer the ship.
Everything else is pretty much practice.
EDIT: Also knowing where to bail water from is important, the best spot is from the top of the lower stairs and chuck the water to the left side where the left cannon is into the ocean, that spot also lets you see the opponent ship and if a cannonball is approaching. Another reason why exposing your left side is better. Since if the opponent is hitting you from the right, you will be bouncing around and taking damage. If that spot is risky, you can bail from the top of the lower stairs and chuck the water to the back side into the ocean.
Also, close your shutters/windows so the opponent can't snipe you while you are bucketing/bailing.
