@@BrokeBob my video editing experience is close to 0. I've only ever stumbled upon codecs on a dev course, but yes, same, it's not a how to guide but info was pretty accurate and funny as h@ll
I don't care how quirky this video was, i'm just happy how informative it was. Lot's of "ooh look at me i'm talking about a normally boring topic in a fun and quirky way" videos don't leave in or fast forward over the informative bits and I hate that. I'm glad this isn't just a joke video. Good stuff.

I have to agree with devtrash, Adam is a genius but he's best appreciated in small easily digestible chunks like this. If I had to watch a full episode of this kind of stuff I think my brain would slowly turn to static

I love how this is based on a bit Alan did when he did live comedy and he kept it almost exactly the same, including the stuffed pants.
Technically the correct answer is the one that's easiest to implement with the current tech stack - it just has to work people! Make it pretty later, we're shipping at the end of this sprint!

- a codec allows us to say complicated things more easily (long sentence = short sentence after compression)
- its stupid to ask why we use them. It's like asking why we shoot our enemies instead of walking over to them and just-and just handing. Them. The. Bullets.

- when discussing anti- compression you're gonna wanna discuss i-frames, p-frames and b-frames too. You just can't not discuss them. They're up for discussion.
-i frames = jpeg compression.

-Apple ProRes codec gives high quality images and a large file size.
-The more popular H.264 codec enables fast compression with a small file size.
It does smooth the image though.
-The DivX media format has sharper colors but issues with compatibility and playback. Oops.
-nobody likes Ogg open container codec. Like why does it exist? It's ugly. Ew. makes everything squishy and cold, like Antarctica.
-VP8 is ok becuase it's royalty free but you get bad quality.
-X-rug.55 low bit rate and bad at colors
-zipperXR+ is soft pretty retro filter but cannot render humans because it thinks we're ugly I guess
-1.2 Yums is for when you're stoned
-Jiz-Vics is the result of a demonic possession in the manufacturing facility
-Tizz.5D registers movement in greyscale and looks like broken night vision lenses
-At this point Alan is being harassed by an SUV
-CO/Pek codec is Smudged and yucky but neat???

- a good beginners codec is ProRes. But I like H.264 too.
