      definitely very effective, although I watched one with low voltage electrical wire that didn't hurt just taught the squirrels to not try anymore! This one is more entertaining though!!!! :D

      All you need to do is he was cayenne pepper or Hot Chili Pepper mix it in with the bird feeder it won't harm the birds they don't have any taste buds better than warm them up Chipmunks and the squirrels don't like it's too hot for them to eat and

      Actually there was a documentary in the 1990's about squirrel obstacle course. It existed pre-TH-cam. Has things like making squirrels ride a cart. It's posted up on TH-cam. That was the very first one I've ever seen. They came back with another doc and another obstacle course.

    That was a fun way to start my morning. I feed and love my squirrels. Yours is the first feeder I've seen beat the buggers. I had a landlord in the mid-eighties that kept me entertained trying to keep them out of his feeders. The contraptions he came up with never even slowed them down; we had some of the fattest squirrels in the city.

    Do those little buggers ever give up when they see a tasty treat on the other side. Seems like you need some type of rotation of the course so the buggers can’t keep trying until they perfect their approach

    Is this the OG squirrel ninja rope video?! Only 98k views... I can see why y'all made some more! Watching all the more recent videos and then going back to this one, I can't believe how much the squirrels adapted to the course over time! Seeing how they ran through some of the more complicated setups, it's hard to believe they were so timid (and bad at the course) early on!

    • @CruzesLouisianaOutdoors
      @CruzesLouisianaOutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea this was the original! When food is involved definitely seems like they have problem solving skills that go into their tiny little brains somewhere...they remember the previous solutions and move on to the next obstacle...pretty cool!

    I don't know about the squirrels in Louisiana, but the Gray squirrels in New England can *easily* jump straight up from the ground and grab the bottom of the bird feeders at that low hanging height. Your rope or cable needs to be at least a couple more feet higher up off the ground. Mine are 10 feet off the ground to discourage deer and bears, and the rope (I use rubber-clad, braided steel dog-run cable) has a pulley at one end so that I can easily raise or lower the feeders for refilling.

    I love the one that would calmly walk down the rope, stroll over the pipe bomb (well, that's what it looks like), its tail waving gently ... then it hit the first PVC tube. That tail would start snapping like a flag in a tornado and you could almost feel the frustration flowing off the squirrel, until it fell. And it came back for more. Thanks to you and your son for sharing. Get the boy acting lessons. ;-)

      lol girl...you've NO idea how well fed these squirrels are...they so fat they can't hardly climb a tree! I have a large plywood raised feeder and I've actually caught a gorged squirrel sleeping on top of the bird food. When I pecked the window glass he woke up and started eating again.....some people do not realize what utter PIGS squirrels actually are. I see your squirrels are gray squirrels. I am from central Louisiana and though I've seen grays occasionally all of the squirrel bird food thieves that I see are fox squirrels. You from north or south Louisiana? Just curious.

    MY neighbor strung a very taught 1/4 rope line about 25' from his house to a sturdy tree, the rope had no sag at all. Before he put it up he put 3/4" PVC on the line in signets varying from 1' to 3 ', he hung a bird feeder from it in the middle with PVC covering 10' on either side. I could see the roof line of his house from my chair in the living room- to my knowledge not 1 squirrel defeated this system in the 18 months he had it up. I really enjoyed it because it obviously frustrated the s**t out of the squirrels, they would sit on the roof looking at the set up and their tail would flick rapidly, I am sure that they were frustrated but Never won.

      That's awesome! Yea...check out the link below...its how this ninja rope course evolved over the last year...my squirrels had no issue at all with PVC covering the rope...we had to get a little more creative! Thanks for stopping by...have a good one!

      I thank you. I live in Ludlow Vermont. It's good to know that squirrel's are little piggies wherever you live. Also I like your nonviolent way of dealing with them. They have a purpose and a rite to live. Hope you all stay safe and you and your boy keep outsmarting those critters.👍🙏✌️
