    For what it's worth, my Marshall Emberton needed a bit of "burn-in" time. During my initial listens, I was ready to send it back -- especially due to lacking bass (amount AND definition) and overpowering mids. After just a few hours of playing time, it's finally settling in. The bass is there, finally, and it sounds really good. The mids have also toned a bit, though it might just be offset by the bass showing up.

    • @ugurozdemir6573
      @ugurozdemir6573 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you mean it kinda opens up later? I have received mine today and I immediately wrapped it back up and want to send it back.. I own a Marshall Acton so I don't know if it is because its a lot less powerful to what I'm used to hearing? Do you think I should give it another chance?

    • @Yipcanjo
      @Yipcanjo 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ugurozdemir6573 Yep, that's what I mean.... it opens up after using it for a bit. That said, the size of those drivers is only going to do so much. Are you lacking low-end, or just overall volume?

    • @ugurozdemir6573
      @ugurozdemir6573 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Yipcanjo low ends are ok, not great.. it just doesn’t seem to fill the room as much as I’d wanted it to especially with the lack of bass. If I sit close to it say about a meter and a half it sounds better than if I am at the end of the room. I just love how compact it is and the overall build just feels so solid.. I’ll give it more testing time, but It’ll be a shame if I do return it in the end because it just looks so amazing!

    • @Yipcanjo
      @Yipcanjo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@ugurozdemir6573 It does look and feel amazing! Best built bluetooth speaker I've ever had. As far as "room filling sound", you should also try placing it in a corner, on a window sill, or near a wall. You'd be surprised at how much the reflection from solid surfaces can increase the overall volume AND bass response.

    I suspect that your Stockwell II is either defective or counterfeit. It explains the inconsistencies between your observations (low volume, lack of bass, poor sound stage, etc.) and those of other YT reviewers (e.g. Oluv, Alan Ross, etc.) and certainly explains the "no sound until volume is at 8" issue that you observed. There are a number of articles/videos online that explain how to spot common counterfeits. I am curious if this indeed the case, or whether there is a genuine quality control issue. I own the black/brass version of the Stockwell II (purchased 2021). It sounds fantastic and does not exhibit any of the issues you described.

      Thank you for the feedback! You know it may be time to get another one and try it out. The original was purchased from marshallheadphones directly so I doubt it is fake, but I had so many other speakers at the time maybe It's worth comparing the two as I love the look of the stockwell.

    Very nice review thanks. I wonder how the quality varies in manufacturing, because I have bot a Kilburn (original) and the Stockwell II. Both are designed for different purposes (e.g. real portability), and I'll have to say they both perform very well for my needs.
    The Kilburn kicks ass with solid bass and a warmth sounds, kind of signature Marshall. Being the size it is it is well suited for moving around the house, taking it outside for a barbeque, to the beach etc (going around in a car).
    The Stockwell II goes everywhere with me as if fits comfortably in my laptop back, and gives me great music in hotel rooms. You can't have a party with it but it is really good for filling a hotel room with quality sound.
    I started looking at the Emberton as it is even more portable that the Stockwell II (space and weight are huge factors). I would imaging by sheer physical limitations it couldn't produce as much bass as the Stockwell II, but would be enough for music and watching movies on my tablet.
    So I think, depending on your needs, you couldn't go too far wrong with any of these. They are simply great.

      Ugly kid thanks for sharing your experience. I'm personally waiting for marshall to give the stockwell II an internal update with new drivers and battery so that it takes some lessons learned from the embertons success.

    I just subscribed to Oluv's Patreon and watched his review and comparison between Emberton and Stockwell 2.
    I was almost convinced before but now I am sure that your S2 has some issues. His Stockwell 2 sounds exactly as I expect - far superior, more open and larger, with deeper bass and nicer (clearer) treble. Maybe this new color wave of editions are somewhat different with the original one (summer 2019) ? Feels like its' tweeters are almost not working or bass and treble are at 0. Strange.
    Don't get me wrong - Emberton is pretty good for the size and money. But far from better than Stockwell 2.

    • @DannyPops
      @DannyPops  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So just to clarify, the stockwell ii here is the 2nd one I've listened to and they both had the same issue, so it may be more going on. I had the treble and bass all the way up. Thanks for the thoughts :) The last one I had felt extremely underpowered too and it was not the special colored version. Maybe Europe has been getting a different batch?

      Because Oluv has much better recording.

  • @Angelchildxx
    @Angelchildxx 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Stockwell II you have to set up the audio, which you can do there and not on the emberton (which is done for generic listener that cannot expect to know music and different sounds). Which settings you had when recording? It’s useless thing if you don’t say that honestly.
    Also stockwell makes a similar sound when turned on or connected.
    I have a stockwell II. I agree you have to put it at least on 6. Don’t know why is that. To me the emberton looks great btw. I love minimalistic design.

  • @mfblackburn1980

    I’m curious, did you set eq for one of the speakers and then force those settings onto the other two? I have a Stockwell 2 and, while listening over your mic is a very inexact science, mine sounds nothing like this. Mine, when properly eq’d is not “muddy” in this way. Oluv’s gadgets reviews of the Stock 2 are much more in-line with my results, and I’ve compared at least a dozen speakers in the last 60 days.

      Mike B You are right, I have the same impression. I'm waiting for Olaf's review, and compare with Stockwell 2 .I've got my Stockwell 2 because Olaf’s videos, he is the best.

      Same here. I have Stockwell 2 for about an year and still no match in sound quality. This here sounds very strange and somewhat absent.
      Anyway, I like Emberton but still not quite convinced by it's sound and price.

      One other issue is the setting of the bass and treble knobs on the stock 2. The treble needs to be pretty high or it will sound muddy. I like it around 75% or more. Then set bass around 50%...voila! This makes a huge difference but you also have to consider your phone’s eq settings.

      Thanks for the feedback. Luckily, Oluv will do what he does best. To my ear, the Stockwell 2 doesnt sound nearly as clear as the emberton, even with the EQ settings adjusted. Theres no EQ on the emberton to adjust to match.

      @DannyPops  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One thing I will add is that the stockwell 2 gets nowhere near as loud either. I had both the bass and treble maxed out. The outdoor test portion is probably a better test to demonstrate that.

    Which Marshall or other speakers do you recommend the most for outdoors? I'm a skateboarder so it has to have high max. volume because it's always loud around us, but it also has to be as portable as possible. I'm listening a lot to Rock and Hip Hop stuff.

    Great video. Great comparison. We are able to make up our own minds AND you give a realistic comparison yourself because we didn't hear the truth - you did. Although I could out agree more with your assessment. It seems tye new little one is the best thing there for just grabbing and going. Hmmm.
    If you get the chance, have a look at, and listen to, the Bang and Olufsen Beosound A1 2nd Generation. It costs around the 200 mark but it is a real winner and I am interested in how it compares. Thanks for the video. More grease to your elbow!!

    Loved marshall speakers. Not anymore. I got a Woburn, torn it down, and it uses the exact same board as the stanmore. Two subs are literally wired in parallel. The bass distortion is so bad I thought it was fake. And I found out it isn't. It just really suck for the size. Selling it right now.

    Stockwell is not worth it uses only one driver of 10W and tweeters. Kilburn II has one woofer that is 20W same as New Emberton two 10W drivers 20W in total and more portable than kilburn. If you want really loud then go with Stanmore or Wuborn, tofton Range.

    • @Funkywallot
      @Funkywallot 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stockwell uses 2x5w tweeters 10w woofer and it has a passive woofer at the back. 20w in total.But yes Stockwell 2 is made for low to moderate listening volume. Party machine is isent . The Stanmore and Tufton will not fill the room with music quite as good as the Stockwell since the Stockwell´s sound dispersion is second to none, and sounds very good on low volume.

      Indeed Stockwell 2 is not the king of loudness. It is quality, spatial sound and balanced deep bass. BTW all 3 speakers inside are 10W but side tweeters are working at 5W. And here it was only one slow rock song tested - where Emberton sounded better due to it's brighter mids. I cannot judge anything else because the mic was... not the best so I actually didn't like any of the 4. Hopefully there will be more reviews soon.

    • @DannyPops
      @DannyPops  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah its very subjective and some here in the comments have strong options about the stockwell, but to my ears the emberton does everything the stockwell strived but failed to deliver on in terms of being a small attractive speaker with punchy audio.

    Hi Danny, my favourite speaker was the second one in the outdoor demo. Unfortunately I’m totally blind, so I completely lost it as to which speaker you are playing at which point. I couldn’t care less about looks, just sound! Please Could you tell me therefore which was the second speaker you played in the outdoor demo? It seems to have the base and slightly brighter treble. Two of these sounded absolutely rubbish, so I definitely don’t want to buy the wrong one. Thank you very much for any help, Rob

    My daughter plays travel softball and we need a portable BT speaker for their "walk-up" songs.
    Would you reccomend this over something like the JBL Extreme 2 that has come down to the $219 price point?

    • @DannyPops

      I would imagine the Extreme 2 would be better since you mentioned softball which is outdoors and might need more power. The emberton is loud but I'm sure the extreme 2 has much more oomf.
