  • The hospital was built in 1910 and closed in 1962. Over those 52 years thousands of patients succumbed to tuberculosis and their bodies were carted out through the infamous "body chute." The location is open for tours during certain times of the year and proceeds go to restoration efforts. If you would like to visit this location, do it legally and get a tour. The building is outfitted with cameras, motion sensors, and door alarms along with vigilant maintenance crews. If you trespass here, you will be charged.

      AbandonedSC Buddy of mine actually went and took one at this place couple months ago. They go for the super natural angle. Say people have had tables slide across the room, been hit by chairs, that kind of thing.
      He liked it though, he's into that kind of stuff but I dont really buy into it. It's an overnight thing too, which would be cool.

      Be sure to call well in advance if you want a tour. Last time I checked, they were booking tours like a year in advance.

    from what i understand allot for these buildings where built specifically so that the patients had a constant fresh air and so that there was good airflow through the building

    I'd be curious about the infamous room 502. That said, great video. I wonder if the really old buildings are still around like the little school house and the first small sanitariums built from around 1910 and onwards. Would love to check the place out before it gets converted into a modern b&b or hotel where you have to spend an ungodly amount of money just to visit.

    OMG you guys actually explored around the facenity. I think thats the shed @0:50 a guy was talking about on the Art Bell ghost to ghost program back in 2007. He said he took a shortcut behind that building and saw 2 red eyes looking at him from a shed...that might be what he was talking about.

    I live 20 minutes from here. I went there on Halloween because they do a tour and you can spend the night there. Me and a few of my friends spent the night. After that experience I have decided to never step foot on that property ever again.

    • @jamaljewel1776

      +moviesims183 is the place really haunted what did experience?

    • @moviesims183
      @moviesims183 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Jamal Jewel yes it's actually haunted. We were only allowed on the 2nd an 5th floor because the 3rd floor where most activity is was blocked off because some guy had a heart attack and said that a ghostly like figure appeared in front of him out of no where.
      Some off the things I witnessed was at a point where we were on the outside terrace part the tour guide told us that they filled the whole place with people, and so there were these sisters who sleept and go treated out there on the terrace, and one of them died and after that the other sister would say her sisters name everyday till she died. So when we were starting to continue the tour I heard a fain grasp voice say "sarah!". So I asked my tour guide if the girls name was sarah and he said "yes, why do you ask" I said "because I heard someone faintly say her name. And he just gave me this concerned look and told me that sometimes people can hear her.
      Another thing was this corridor they call the hall of Shadows. They send someone to walk down the hallway and stop halfway. So when they stop and if you keep looking at then you can see apparitions walk in front of the person. It's really weird

    The afflicted didn't go there to die. they were there to be healed by use of fresh air, sunlight and rest. Though people did die often, at least some lived to tell. Seems they stayed for long periods of time. How depressing.

      Grognak the Barbarian Yea it became a place for the elderly after the tuberculosis epidemic went down thanks to better medicine. I think it was converted in the 1960's but I'm not too sure. It served other patients as well. Most people haven't done their history on the place and still think of it only as the infamous hospital for tuberculosis patients...

    • @shanadixon8678
      @shanadixon8678 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm from Louisville. Some time after it was a tuberculosis hospital it was a hospital for elderly patients. The state closed it in the early 1980s because of poor treatment/care of the patients. Then it sat empty for YEARS. Kids use to break in there, especially at night all the time after that. No one really kept it up & it was abandoned for a long while.
