    Coconut oil! Perfect for cleaning hard water spots, dust and general shine. A teenie tiny amount on a microfibre cloth can clean 30 plants 🙂🪴

      @steph6337 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      How long have you been using it? I was wondering does it mess with the breathing of the plants.

    • @leahwalker9868
      @leahwalker9868 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@steph6337 I’ve been doing this for about 2 years. You really only need a a really small amount, not even 1/4 tsp. So you’re not really smothering the leaves. I thought they would attract more dust because of the oil, but nope! And when you do need to dust them again, you don’t need to use more coconut oil, you can just buff them up. 🙂. Now I have to figure out how to clean the leaves on my prayer plants! 🪴

      My prayer plants I'm terrified to try anything on, lol! I collect rain water only for them and every now and then I sprinkle the leaves.

    Love the tips! In my 'DIY' cleaning mixture, I use the same ingredients you do but also add neem oil, isopropyl alcohol and/or hydrogen peroxide (in a very diluted/small amount). I'm all about efficiency, so I like including these pest preventative measures in! I haven't damaged any leaves or seen negative affects!
    I would only make a small amount of the mixture at a time (each time I'm going to use it) as the alcohol/peroxide loses its potency pretty quickly and doesn't last as long. Won't hurt the plants if you make a big batch and use it over time, just doesn't give as much benefits.

    • @charlottecobain6986
      @charlottecobain6986 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The peroxide and neem would lose effectiveness quickly, not the alcohol. And using isopropyl with an oil is basically reducing the effectiveness from the get go, just fyi. I use a 1:6 70% alcohol to water ratio with a bit of Castile soap as a leaf cleaner if I’m treating an active outbreak to do the cursory clean of the plant after rinsing it off. I always keep a batch mixed up and it never loses potency. Alcohol only really degrades/evaporates if the container isn’t airtight. Then I treat with neem but I hate how quickly neem loses its potency (concentrates in water anyway) I always need more than a gallon for all my plants and then end up making another gallon only for most of it to go to waste. Huge bummer.

    Great ideas! You cannot use too much Neem Oil though because it will take out your plant despite it being a very natural alternative. I have used the spray the plants in the shower method or outside during the summer with a gentle spray. In the shower be careful not to get soil or plant leaves in your drain.....:)

    I never thought about it. But the lemon juice actually makes a lot of sense. One way to clean hard water off an aquarium is using ph down, an aquarium water additive. Because it lowers ph, it’s essentially a fish safe acidic solution. Citric acid is obviously also an acid. So it makes a of sense that an acid would work on plants too. Great tip 💡

I used to put it in the rain but then we moved it up to the second level of my home which wasn’t easy, but it looks good in the room. I can’t even get it into the shower …it’s heavy! Since I can’t sit there and dust every leaf I sometimes give it a shake to remove dust. I was wondering if you have any other ideas for large plants that are too heavy to move? I've recently bought a bunch of cut pothos leaves to propagate in a jar of water. Within a few days, I'm noticing some tiny holes here & there. There's also some minimal browning on the edge of the leaves. Everywhere I search, websites are mentioning pests, overwatering, underwatering, sunburn, etc. The thing is... it's in a jar of water so is there such a thing as overwatering when propagating? & I leave it by a window that gets medium amount of indirect light that shouldn't be so damaging to the plant. I haven't fertilized it yet since it's winter but I'm planning on adding some leca that I ordered once it arrives. I also use filtered water so there shouldn't really be anything harming the plants. Do I have pests?

    My newly purchased micans' leaves are spotty, probably from greenhouse watering/fertilizing. Are the tender, velvety leaves able to handle 1)being sprayed in the shower, 2)sprayed with dish soap mix, 3)sprayed with neem mixture, 4)wiped with a soft cloth? I'm afraid to harm them! Is it best to avoid one or all methods mentioned? Please advise......TIA.

    Love your tips. I wanted to know how would you clean the plants that dont require much water to survive especially in the winter. Is there a quick trick?? Or am I left doing one leaf at a time. It's for snake plants. I have a one big one that I ended up dividing into 12 more plants and still could divide them more. Thanks do much for the video. By the way, your glowing and look beautiful.

      Hi, I have a collection of sansevieria, about 30 varieties. I use a 1 part 3% hydrogen peroxide and 3 parts water in a spray bottle. I've been doing this for 10+ years with no problems. I also use this to flush out my plants to kill the gnat larvae. The plants that need to be kept moist, keep gnats around. I have about 200 plants. I hope the helps.
