What I think hurt this playthrough was looking up stuff instead of just following the path laid out before him. A lot of the helpful tips were dismissed too fast, but I'm just glad he played it.
Imo what hurt his play thru is that he didn’t understand he can’t cancel animations, and attacks have Wined up. thus you got the button mashing mid swing and complaining about it not working.

Watching Doc play has given me far more confidence in myself for playing this game the first time. Can't wait to watch him play the DLC though! Props to him for having a go at a style of game he has never had any exposure to.

Doc went in blind, never playing a Dark Souls game before. It's a game that punishes you for not being patient. I hope he gives it another shot. Also he picked a class that uses healing spells, never used them. If he wants speed and violence he needs to pick a strength build class.
Yeah would have been much smarter to start with dark souls, blood borne or demon's souls to get a feel for how the series works cause they all have a pretty much identical combat style

Almost 6 hours in and he still hasn't figured out that the leveling system needs runes (by killing things in the game) and that dying a second time without collecting the runes means they are gone forever 🤣 Part of me wants to yell at the screen, the other part just wants to see him learn the hard way since he has zero attention span and constantly forgets basic things. The game does a horrible job at teaching you these things. A terribly written description is all you get and to be honest, the leveling in this game is weird. Normally you gain levels and then allocate attributes but for whatever reason they make it so you buy levels by purchasing attribubes? So unecessarily convoluded.

The game tells you outright what’s going on, and even puts old tutorials in your inventory. Mastering these games can be extremely difficult, but I have no sympathy for people who miss the most basic concepts because they don’t pay attention.

I play sports games 80% of the time btw and I'm loving elden ring...after spamming and dying about 10x straight on a boss I realized maybe I shouldn't swing wildly...thats just common sense to eventually attempt to slow down and time things with all games you struggle with never once did I think its laggy inputs or the game just being bad...blamed myself and now I'm slowly figuring it out
It was so strange watching him push buttons and expect immediate reactions and feedback after a few hours in. By which I mean - He wasn't adapting to the system and controls... He didn't seem to realize you could dial it down, and start timing the system and mechanics to get that "flow" state. He just kept swinging harder, and pushing faster. But I get it... there are so many twitch and hyper-fast reaction oriented games out there it is like suddenly asking someone to start playing chess after being used to paintball.
True, but the character movement in this game seems a tad less fluid than dark souls 3, I’ve noticed. Idk why they changed this but thats really my only gripe with this game.
@@vincentdc211 you have to adapt to the stamina management and the fact that there is no cancelling an attack and there is spell quing so spamming buttons is bad.
Bloodborne has better, more fluid and responsive controls. It's the responsiveness of the game. There's basically an input delay and seemingly also a buffer system too. I've had many times where my roll input "started" got hit and staggered then it came out once I was out of said stagger. I plain Bloodborne and was on NG++ on DS3. And I know it's a getting back into this game loop issue as well from playing MHW:I which is a "similar" type of game/loop but it's much more responsive, I don't think ive really had issues in that game with attacks/rolls e.t.c coming out 3-5 seconds after pressing a button.
I really wouldn't call it a fair chance. He couldn't make it out of the tutorial. Could have saved himself hours of frustration by reading tips from chat. Not even gameplay spoilers or advice, just basic game mechanics like turning off auto lock on. But nope, blame the game.
He approached a Fromsoft game with the power fantasy of a Skyrim player and the game said Nope and stomped on him. He learned nothing from death, kept running head long into groups repeating the steps that clearly got him killed. He also is playing a class that clearly isn't his play style.

It’s rough watching doc flail at the end there. The castle gates are the first “difficulty barrier” and I’d hardly say it’s difficult. Its about the approach having the giant come out and fight instead of being hit by the archers works best even not locking for the giant is better most of all stamina management and being aware of each input and not button mashing
I don't get why he just started trying to fight through the gates, he sped through it in horse properly then he just started rubbing his face in sand paper and complained it hurts when he could have just stopped, or gone in another direction?
Hey Doc. If you want to try Elden Ring in a more enjoyable way, try the Vegabond as they start with the Halberd, allowing you to space out your enemy. Or you can disregard safety and jump in with heavy attacks for quick poise-breaks allowing crits. The lock-on is notoriously bad across the series, so you can either keep trying it, or learn to not use it. Regardless, hopefully you have a great day!
Been playing since Demon's Souls. Always used lock-on. Never been an issue. For bigger bosses you don't use it to have a better look and feel for your surroundings. Started Elden Ring with the Samurai. Really enjoy this class.
Yeah souls-like games tend to reward pattern recognition, planning, and patience. Learning how to learn is the biggest part of the game. If you don't like taking the time to gauge each encounter, you'll end up frustrated dying the same ways you did before without realizing it. Definitely not a game for everyone.
People that haven’t played those type of games will have a terrible experience starting to play them. There’s just a learning curve to it. Also elden ring being open world it’s overwhelming for even me who’s play about all of the souls games
The game actually has proper animations. You can’t just mash. Is not for everyone, but I’m happy doc played it some. The souls series is my favorite of all time! Ggs
Doc expects his character to keep up with how fast he’s spamming the attack button. Reality check says your character will indeed swing the amount of times you press said attack button lol. It may only take 2 seconds to spam that button but it may take your character 5-8 seconds to go through the motions. The game isn’t delayed. It’s doing what you are telling it to do. Advice… don’t spam attack every enemy you encounter.
Those were Docs strategies and that’s why he was getting smashed. And that’s why he almost smashed his monitor in return. There are numerous enemy types and you have to go about them differently. Doc just went up to every enemy and spammed the attack as fast as he could and presses dodge as he has like 6 more strikes that have to play out. If you can’t handle the game that’s fine. Go play something else
@@tomcruiiseship9461 these types of games can be really cool but you definitely don’t go into them if you want a chill experience. You have to learn each enemy type and their moves, as well as how to attack more than one enemy safely. It really makes you value your in game life in a very weird but fun way… it takes work to get through different stages. If you want to succeed you have to approach each enemy as if you were actually in the game trying to make smart decisions. I haven’t played this game, but it’s a classic style that can really itch a certain spot you didn’t know you had until you start getting into it.

He’s trying to input his next move before the one he’s already done has gotten close enough to finishing. You can’t roll cancel your attacks and he’s mistaking not being able to cancel anything for unresponsiveness. You can’t heavy attack and roll and swap lock-on all in one movement. Keeps you from button mashing. Is what it is. I was laughing when he was saying he was gonna try it cause he loved Skyrim and Morrowind. Lupo clearly knew where it was gonna end up when Doc said he was gonna play it.
But that’s a negative aspect of the game. You should be able to roll out of the attack, cancel hit and dodge if you see the danger. Also, many enemies in this game do not react to character’s attacks like they have armor or something. Poor development

@@igretrovods9189 its not negative, its what seperates it from trash like Devil May Cry. Theres many ways to play the game and theres a lot more stats that translate into the way you can play the game. If youre swinging a sword that is really heavy you cant just stop mid swing and roll instead, but you can play with lighter, faster weapons, or spells and ranged weapons. Theres a stat called poise which is basically your ability to be able to tank hits without your inputs being interrupted. Theres a difference between it just being bad, and not understanding what the mechanics actually are and what the nuances are of varying play styles. Souls games generally get super easy once you know how to play them but expecting to just button mash through everything aint gonna cut it.

He needs to learn to wait for the right moment, and that once you swing you're committed. All he wanted to do was spam attack them dodge roll right before the enemy hit. Took 0 time to learn attack patterns, move sets, just in their face swinging until they hit him. When he said it felt sluggish I laughed because I remember demon's souls and DS1. Those games were sluggish and clunky. This game feels so much more fluid, reminds me of Shadow of Mordor mixed with DS3.

The problem with most streamers is because they are doing content they rush things and don't take the Actual time to learn and explore these kinds of games....I mean look how many hours it took him to figure out how to get on/off his horse 😅.....GGs for trying anyways 2x would of loved to have seen more of these outside of the "military" genre games...but by the looks of it I doubt it

Your actions aren't delayed by 5 secs...impossible you just have an issue with panic button mashing clearly, that's what you were doing I can tell that by your character on screen thats why you die..the game doesn't want you putting in 12 inputs per second you don't seem to get that

Not a huge doc watcher, but I love watching this and seeing all the DS elitists malding over him not going to Margit asap. It's an open world game and if there is one thing that doesn't hurt to watch is that he is doing what he wants and making up his own objectives as he goes along

His problem was focusing way more on the statistics of his weapon and especially armor, he needs to focus more on dodge timing and when to attack instead of attacking till their dead. I’m assuming he realized it because he came back and said he loved it. Hopefully that moment he realizes it is in one of these streams.
the only part of this game the doc understood was the character creator.. he obviously has figured out levelling up far better than anyone in chat 🤦🏻♂️ So disappointed
In souls games you need to have perfect spacing and dodging ... know parry timings / study enemy attacks and movements and be aware of your surroundings all the time...it is a hard game...extremely hard but if you put some effort in it and take your time to learn all the mechanics its a one of a kind gaming experience. And the lore is epic aswell... And most important the feeling when you beat one of the bosses its simply amazing.

(It is more fun when you remember the golden knight on the horse is in the starting area (or just mark the map when you see sth interesting)...instead of searching him for an hour 😂)

@@rock21611 facts..my 1st souls game ever(I've seen them I know them but never owned or played one) I'm 15 hrs in having a blast..and yes it explains how to get on your horse immideatley after you get it and explains runes to you aswell...im as noobish as it gets for this series.. I play sports games 80% of the time btw and I'm loving elden ring...after spamming and dying about 10x straight on a boss I realized maybe I shouldn't swing wildly...thats just common sense to eventually attempt to slow down and time things with all games you struggle with never once did I think its laggy inputs or the game just being bad...blamed myself and now I'm slowly figuring it out

It was so strange watching him push buttons and expect immediate reactions and feedback after a few hours in.
By which I mean - He wasn't adapting to the system and controls... He didn't seem to realize you could dial it down, and start timing the system and mechanics to get that "flow" state. He just kept swinging harder, and pushing faster.
But I get it... there are so many twitch and hyper-fast reaction oriented games out there it is like suddenly asking someone to start playing chess after being used to paintball.
True, but the character movement in this game seems a tad less fluid than dark souls 3, I’ve noticed. Idk why they changed this but thats really my only gripe with this game.

@@vincentdc211 you have to adapt to the stamina management and the fact that there is no cancelling an attack and there is spell quing so spamming buttons is bad.
Bloodborne has better, more fluid and responsive controls.
It's the responsiveness of the game. There's basically an input delay and seemingly also a buffer system too. I've had many times where my roll input "started" got hit and staggered then it came out once I was out of said stagger.
I plain Bloodborne and was on NG++ on DS3.
And I know it's a getting back into this game loop issue as well from playing MHW:I which is a "similar" type of game/loop but it's much more responsive, I don't think ive really had issues in that game with attacks/rolls e.t.c coming out 3-5 seconds after pressing a button.

I love Elden Ring and it is a really fun game imo. On the bright side Doc gave it a chance and gave him honest opinion on it lol
I really wouldn't call it a fair chance. He couldn't make it out of the tutorial. Could have saved himself hours of frustration by reading tips from chat. Not even gameplay spoilers or advice, just basic game mechanics like turning off auto lock on. But nope, blame the game.

He approached a Fromsoft game with the power fantasy of a Skyrim player and the game said Nope and stomped on him. He learned nothing from death, kept running head long into groups repeating the steps that clearly got him killed. He also is playing a class that clearly isn't his play style.

It’s rough watching doc flail at the end there. The castle gates are the first “difficulty barrier” and I’d hardly say it’s difficult. Its about the approach having the giant come out and fight instead of being hit by the archers works best even not locking for the giant is better most of all stamina management and being aware of each input and not button mashing
I don't get why he just started trying to fight through the gates, he sped through it in horse properly then he just started rubbing his face in sand paper and complained it hurts when he could have just stopped, or gone in another direction?

Hey Doc. If you want to try Elden Ring in a more enjoyable way, try the Vegabond as they start with the Halberd, allowing you to space out your enemy. Or you can disregard safety and jump in with heavy attacks for quick poise-breaks allowing crits. The lock-on is notoriously bad across the series, so you can either keep trying it, or learn to not use it. Regardless, hopefully you have a great day!
Been playing since Demon's Souls. Always used lock-on. Never been an issue. For bigger bosses you don't use it to have a better look and feel for your surroundings. Started Elden Ring with the Samurai. Really enjoy this class.
The most enjoyable way to play elden ring for doc is to uninstall and play a real game like tarkov.

Yeah souls-like games tend to reward pattern recognition, planning, and patience. Learning how to learn is the biggest part of the game. If you don't like taking the time to gauge each encounter, you'll end up frustrated dying the same ways you did before without realizing it. Definitely not a game for everyone.

People that haven’t played those type of games will have a terrible experience starting to play them. There’s just a learning curve to it. Also elden ring being open world it’s overwhelming for even me who’s play about all of the souls games

Doc expects his character to keep up with how fast he’s spamming the attack button. Reality check says your character will indeed swing the amount of times you press said attack button lol. It may only take 2 seconds to spam that button but it may take your character 5-8 seconds to go through the motions. The game isn’t delayed. It’s doing what you are telling it to do. Advice… don’t spam attack every enemy you encounter.
I thought it was a mouse input issue. That's why I uninstalled Dark Souls 2. Looks like it's time to reinstall it again

Those were Docs strategies and that’s why he was getting smashed. And that’s why he almost smashed his monitor in return. There are numerous enemy types and you have to go about them differently. Doc just went up to every enemy and spammed the attack as fast as he could and presses dodge as he has like 6 more strikes that have to play out. If you can’t handle the game that’s fine. Go play something else
@@tomcruiiseship9461 these types of games can be really cool but you definitely don’t go into them if you want a chill experience. You have to learn each enemy type and their moves, as well as how to attack more than one enemy safely. It really makes you value your in game life in a very weird but fun way… it takes work to get through different stages. If you want to succeed you have to approach each enemy as if you were actually in the game trying to make smart decisions. I haven’t played this game, but it’s a classic style that can really itch a certain spot you didn’t know you had until you start getting into it.
@LambChop not really. There are some different mechanics to most games. I dunno. Souls games are just lame. I agree with doc that the star wars souls game was way more fun. The force powers. The jumping off walls and stuff. I dunno dude. Souls games just aren't for everyone

He’s trying to input his next move before the one he’s already done has gotten close enough to finishing. You can’t roll cancel your attacks and he’s mistaking not being able to cancel anything for unresponsiveness. You can’t heavy attack and roll and swap lock-on all in one movement. Keeps you from button mashing. Is what it is. I was laughing when he was saying he was gonna try it cause he loved Skyrim and Morrowind. Lupo clearly knew where it was gonna end up when Doc said he was gonna play it.
Lupo literally started laughing because he knew Docs personality and ego. He knew the game would snap him. It did lol
But that’s a negative aspect of the game. You should be able to roll out of the attack, cancel hit and dodge if you see the danger. Also, many enemies in this game do not react to character’s attacks like they have armor or something. Poor development
@@igretrovods9189 there’s some refinement that needs to be made for sure. The from soft game formula is popular but it really isn’t stellar. This is coming from someone whose favourite game is Bloodborne
@@igretrovods9189 its not negative, its what seperates it from trash like Devil May Cry. Theres many ways to play the game and theres a lot more stats that translate into the way you can play the game. If youre swinging a sword that is really heavy you cant just stop mid swing and roll instead, but you can play with lighter, faster weapons, or spells and ranged weapons. Theres a stat called poise which is basically your ability to be able to tank hits without your inputs being interrupted. Theres a difference between it just being bad, and not understanding what the mechanics actually are and what the nuances are of varying play styles. Souls games generally get super easy once you know how to play them but expecting to just button mash through everything aint gonna cut it.

Always knew about Doc. Him saying he was going to play a souls game is what got me to buy it because my best friend played the second game. These streams are what made me love him. Easily the best streamer out there.

The only thing unathletic about Elden Ring are The Docs reaction times.
He needs to learn to wait for the right moment, and that once you swing you're committed. All he wanted to do was spam attack them dodge roll right before the enemy hit. Took 0 time to learn attack patterns, move sets, just in their face swinging until they hit him.
When he said it felt sluggish I laughed because I remember demon's souls and DS1. Those games were sluggish and clunky. This game feels so much more fluid, reminds me of Shadow of Mordor mixed with DS3.

The problem with most streamers is because they are doing content they rush things and don't take the Actual time to learn and explore these kinds of games....I mean look how many hours it took him to figure out how to get on/off his horse 😅.....GGs for trying anyways 2x would of loved to have seen more of these outside of the "military" genre games...but by the looks of it I doubt it

As he's dying "bored of it" I mean least he gave this "super easy" series a shot. Missing out, such an immersive experience and they even made the difficulty contextual for the masses like yourself. Plus you can literally "build" any character like you're saying.

Not a huge doc watcher, but I love watching this and seeing all the DS elitists malding over him not going to Margit asap. It's an open world game and if there is one thing that doesn't hurt to watch is that he is doing what he wants and making up his own objectives as he goes along

Seeing doc struggle so bad with just the inventory and the equipment was very painful to watch. I’m pretty sure it gave me a stomach ulcer. Let alone the combat. There’s no way he’s never played a souls game before, like this is either Tier one trolling or tragic. Hopefully he gets better.

watching Doc dying repeatedly in this game made my day
His problem was focusing way more on the statistics of his weapon and especially armor, he needs to focus more on dodge timing and when to attack instead of attacking till their dead. I’m assuming he realized it because he came back and said he loved it. Hopefully that moment he realizes it is in one of these streams.
the only part of this game the doc understood was the character creator.. he obviously has figured out levelling up far better than anyone in chat 🤦🏻♂️ So disappointed
time machine. Doc has come a long way from this video. The DLC version of the 2Time is on a whole other level.
In souls games you need to have perfect spacing and dodging ... know parry timings / study enemy attacks and movements and be aware of your surroundings all the time...it is a hard game...extremely hard but if you put some effort in it and take your time to learn all the mechanics its a one of a kind gaming experience. And the lore is epic aswell...
And most important the feeling when you beat one of the bosses its simply amazing.

Souls games are not beginner friendly everyone should know that before you buy them...
(It is more fun when you remember the golden knight on the horse is in the starting area (or just mark the map when you see sth interesting)...instead of searching him for an hour 😂)
