I live in the Deep South, and I can tell you horror books and movies are set here for a reason. The almost abandoned cities and streets, fields beyond fields of crops, creepy towns that look exactly like Children of the Corn.
Books and Lala just mentioned there's some mixed media in We Used to Live Here. The God of the Woods (thriller, serial killer character, summer camp setting, in the woods, rep) was wonderful. A House at the Bottom of the Lake (novella, coastal, in the woods, water on the cover), Dead Thing are Closer than the Appear (YA, cannibals (zombies, but they want to eat you), small town, weapon and animal on the cover, rep) was both horror and witty and adorable. Your Shadow Half Remains (on a lake (so coastal), in the woods, "sort of cannibals", isolated, novella, animal on the cover), Slewfoot (isolated, in the woods) just because it's SOOOO good, Starling House (southern, animal on the cover, southern), Wake the Bones (YA, southern setting, rep), Malice House (haunted house, coastal setting, water on the cover, small town)..... okay, I'll stop now.
I still haven't finished every romantasy challenge (with the reading slump it was just not possible) but I like this one too. I don't read horrors usually, but I think I can do it with dark and paranormal romances, and as you suggested dark fantasies. There're no saints is waiting for me to read it and it checks a box so...😊
For those looking for recs: just finished Death at Morning House by Maureen Johnson and it checks off a ton: coastal, isolated, small town, YA, diverse rep, new release. I had a good time with it!
Damn, I'm reading a book at a summer camp right now and I just finished a book with hands on the cover! 🙈 Considering how much this matches my tastes, I have to give it a spin! I hope you do a video at the end of the challenge where we can share what we read. 🖤
Cassidy, I know you already put so much work into these challenges and everything you do on BookTube. I was just wondering if it was maybe possible to get a spreadsheet for this challenge like there is for the Every Romantasy Challenge.
I’m in love with this challenge idea!! I’m definitely going to attempt a TBR and see how it goes, I’m not 100% sure if I have the spooky books on my shelf or radar to fill all of these prompts but planning for a reading challenge is one of the most fun things ever so what the hell, why not give it a try 😂
I tend to read a lot of spooky winter books so I’ll probably stretch it through December and swap summer camp with something snowbound (winter or mountains). Thank you for putting this together!
I typically don't join readathons during Spooky Reading Season (Sept/Oct/Nov) because I always have collected a huge stack of books I've already prioritized and with holiday activities and garden harvesting I'm already so busy - BUT, this sounds wonderful. I am going to simply use all your prompts, compare them to what I am reading (or use the prompts to sway me a bit), and see how many I can check off. Feeling a sense of community while reading is always a plus. Thank you!
this looks so much fun. and a tip for the canva link, you can share it as a template so it creates a different file for everyone who opens it so they can't change anything in the original file (share -> more -> template link) :))
Yay! So excited to usher in spooky season with this challenge! 👻🎃 (You’d best believe I will be stretching the hell out of the 👁️ cover prompt though!!) 🤢😂
Really thinking about joining this challenge and starting straight away. Honestly, our weather right now already gives autumn feels. Also starting Only one left by r. Sager and just like mother. Probably wont k Make a specific tbr and will try to match as much as i can.
Cassidy stop being so insanely creative!!! I love this challenge, fingers crossed I can do better than on the romantasy one lololol Also, would coast setting not also fit Into the Drowning Deep... quite a bit of ocean hahahah
This sounds so fun! An amazing isolated setting story is From Below by Darcy Coates. It doesn't get more isolated than a sunken ship at the bottom of the ocean.
The Last Word by Taylor Adams is set on the coast and was a decent thriller. You recommended No Exit by him in this video and I liked The Last Word much more than that one.
Oh no another reading challenge how can I resist! I still have one more slot I haven't filled on your romantasy one face-purple-crying pirates are not my vibe lol
Love the top! 😍 Camp Slaughter by Sergio Gomez will fit some prompts. Camp setting, killer, cannibal and they are in the woods. Hope this can help someone fit a prompt :)
I just spent what was probably an absurd amount of time creating my TBR, but here it is! (Definitely had to stretch a few of these, but we'll call it imaginative overthinking. 😅) 1. The Madness by Dawn Kurtagich - Urban + Didn't Buy + Vampires 2. Heads Will Roll by Josh Winning - Summer Camp + On Someone Else's TBR + Weapon 3. A Dowry of Blood by S. T. Gibson: Isolated + Audiobook + Blood + Cannibals 4. Clown in a Cornfield 3: The Church of Friendo by Adam Cesare - Small Town + YA + Cults 5. Summer Sons by Lee Mandelo - Southern + Diverse Rep + Hands 6. The Reformatory by Tananarive Due - Haunted House + New Release + Window + Ghosts 7. A Scout is Brave by Will Ludwigsen - Coastal + Novella + Water 8. A Botanical Daughter by Noah Medlock - In the Woods + New Author 9. Brave New Weird vol. 1 from Tenebrous Press - Technology + Mixed Media 10. Shadowdays by Polly Schattel - Eyeball + Serial Killer
For summer camp and new release someone could do the god of the woods by Liz moor. Also house of ash and bone would be good for YA and haunted house. It’s a really good book.
I don’t think I’ve read enough horror thriller books to recommend any that you haven’t also, lol, hopefully I’ll find some good ones myself in the comments. 🦇
Recs: Spring Harvest by Rektok Ross (horror, small town, vampires, new release, KU (so could be used for book you didn’t buy as well) You’re Not Supposed to Die Tonight by Kalynn Bayron (YA, summer camp, diverse, in the woods, cults, animal on the cover) Daisy Darker by Alice Feeney (set on Halloween night so perfect thriller for the season, coastal, isolated, ghosts, water on the cover) Anoka by Shane Hawk (small town, novella, diverse, animal on the cover) Your Shadow Half Remains (isolated, in the woods, novella, hands on the cover, animal on the cover, eyeball on the cover) I’ll edit this comment as recs come to me!
@CoverswithCassidy Sorry, meant to come back and update my message. Not sure why it didn't work the first time, but it d/led later when I tried. Thank you for responding though!
are you duplicating the main ones, my technical rules are you can't but as I said in the video I don't care if you change them to make them fit. But vacationers is actually by a gay man so is diverse and coastal. the one I recommended by clay McLeod Chapman is coastal and small town but I don't think it has any diversity in it
The Wasp Factory by Iain Banks for an "old book" you will not regreat it. DEAD SILENCE by S.A. Barnes....sf space cruseship ...EmilyFox sad it had real solved ending and not a wishi-washi. The Hole by Hiroko Oyamada, a new japanese one...not read it.

This challenge looks so fun! I’m not super into horror, but maybe I could read fantasy books that hit these prompts?
As I said in the beginning stretch anything to make it fit your reading
For those looking for recs: just finished Death at Morning House by Maureen Johnson and it checks off a ton: coastal, isolated, small town, YA, diverse rep, new release. I had a good time with it!
I love the Truly, Devious books. Thanks for the heads up.
@@FaeryLaume 100% gave Truly, Devious vibes, you can definitely tell it's the same author. But in a good way!
Your videos = Positive Eenergy

I didn't make one for this one there's just the Canva graphic.
Yay I’m so excited for this!! I love thriller and horror books along with the fall/spooky time of year. Thank you so much for making this for us!!! 🦇
I’m in love with this challenge idea!! Yes, winter was on the list at one point getting it down to only eight settings was hard
Oooh! That's so fun! Very exited to fill this with mystery, thriller, horror, dark romance books!
Butcher and Blackbird is a serial killer romance and there is cannibalism if you haven’t read that yet.
im only doing horror and thrillers for this challenge
Oooo I'm so excited These will definitely get me to read some horrors but probably mostly Thrillers and maybe Mysteries 😂😅
I typically don't join readathons during Spooky Reading Season (Sept/Oct/Nov) because I always have collected a huge stack of books I've already prioritized and with holiday activities and garden harvesting I'm already so busy - BUT, this sounds wonderful. So excited! I hope I can hit all of these. I was worried about coastal until you said The Vacationers and I was like, Ah ha! lol
The Drowning House is a coastal horror that I really liked!
Also, Where He Can't Find You does have comics in parts of it, so it could work for mixed media.
This is really fun!! 🦇
this looks so much fun. and a tip for the canva link, you can share it as a template so it creates a different file for everyone who opens it so they can't change anything in the original file (share -> more -> template link) :))
🦇 Fave prompts - southern, audio book, eyeball, and ghosts. 😊😍
So excited for this new challenge!!! Fingers crossed for some fun stickers maybe 🤞🏻
I love this challenge. It is right up my alley and so much fun.🦇
Alright- time to enter my thriller and horror era again! 👻
What an interesting challenge 😍 Maybe I will add this to finish the year off.
Love this! I'm so ready for horror season! And for you to read When the Reckoning Comes.
Yay! So excited to usher in spooky season with this challenge! 👻🎃 (You’d best believe I will be stretching the hell out of the 👁️ cover prompt though!!) 🤢😂
Such GREAT recs, ty!
I need to wrap up the Romantasy Challenge and get it posted. 😂
LOVE this! 💕 🏏
Omg this is so fun! I better complete the romantasy one quickly 😅
So excited! Now to build my TBR!
First things first: Love your shirt! Second: I'm so excited for this readathon!
i wasn't able to do the romantasy one but i'm so excited for this one!!
Yay!!!
Oh very excited to fill mine out ur talking my language whe it comes to horror and thrillers x
I think this is a challenge I would totally enjoy!!

Clown in a Cornfield is awesome, I can't wait for book 3 to come out!

Cassidy stop being so insanely creative!!! I love this challenge, fingers crossed I can do better than on the romantasy one lololol

hahah how did I forget about that one
I screamed at just the title!
Oo exciting! 🦇
This sounds so fun! An amazing isolated setting story is From Below by Darcy Coates. It doesn't get more isolated than a sunken ship at the bottom of the ocean.
Yaaas how did I forget about that one I love it
I think zombies count as cannibals! Because they're people who turn, and then they want to eat people's brains. See! Cannibals!
Very excited for this! Bring on the spooky!
The Last Word by Taylor Adams is set on the coast and was a decent thriller. You recommended No Exit by him in this video and I liked The Last Word much more than that one.
Too each their own cause I really didn't like the last word but love no exit
SO Excoted to particpate.. making me video soon!

I fricking love your challenges ❤
Yay! I'm happy everyone seems to be loving them
I don’t think I’ve read enough horror thriller books to recommend any that you haven’t also, lol, hopefully I’ll find some good ones myself in the comments. 🦇
I love this!! I don’t have Canva-is there an IG story template anywhere?
Canva is free you won't be able to make a copy but can download the image to yse
Recs:
Spring Harvest by Rektok Ross (horror, small town, vampires, new release, KU (so could be used for book you didn’t buy as well)

oooooh I have to look into all of these! thank you!
You’re welcome!!
Love the challenge! But I can't seem to d/l or copy the graphic unless I have the paid version of Canva.
hmmm strange. You should be able to download the graphic as an image regardless but not be able to like use it on Canva
@CoverswithCassidy Sorry, meant to come back and update my message. Not sure why it didn't work the first time, but it d/led later when I tried. Thank you for responding though!
Hi, for the bonus part of this challenge, can you have more than one?
Like say vampires and mixed media? 👀
Or do they have to be featured separately?
it's up to you, either works so whatever makes the challenge work for you
@@CoverswithCassidy Awesome, saw this challenge today was immediately drawn in. Been trying to work out a game plan for my reading👻🙈
🦇
🦇🦇🦇
Would The Reformatory fit as a southern book?
I believe it is
I’m having trouble making a copy. And for some reason it’s showing people joining the graphic. I’m so confused lol.
Yes it's normal to show ppl joining the graphic since it's a shared link! If you don't pay for Canva you may only be able to download it
@@CoverswithCassidy Well that makes sense. I had to pause my pro membership for a month.
@@AmandasBooktopia I'm not a pro member, but I had no issues making a copy. I did however have to unlock my copy before I could edit the design!
Hello there hey there hey Hello hi
Can someone help me find some books that are costal, or small town but also checks off diverse rep and audiobook thanks.
are you duplicating the main ones, my technical rules are you can't but as I said in the video I don't care if you change them to make them fit. But vacationers is actually by a gay man so is diverse and coastal. the one I recommended by clay McLeod Chapman is coastal and small town but I don't think it has any diversity in it
@@CoverswithCassidy no I am not duplicating them.
I added some books in my comment here (I posted two comments, oops) that fit these prompts.
I love this idea and the challenge of it, I just think it will take away from the books I want to get through this season. 🍁
It's an optional challenge! No one has to do it and also it can be done at any time
🦇
