    I liked the sub bass sound from the X. But I like the grit of the 4K. I used to have a 2500 and I made a lot of nice beats on it. I have the 4K now & I love it

    The X also has the MPC 3k filter model and very nice MPC 60, 3k, and SP12 DA converter models, that can give it a lo fi punchy sound like the 2500 and 4k

    So would you say the MPC 4000 has the most punch of the 3? I was talking to legendary Bay Area producer EA-Ski, and he said the MPC 4000 is the most punchiest and biggest sounding of all the MPC’s after the MPC 3000 and MPC 60. He also said the MPC 2500 (as well the 1000 and 5000) had more of a focus on workflow, but sounded relatively sterile and thin compared to every MPC that came before em’. I just bought a fully loaded refurbished MPC 4000 the other day based on his advice, but I’m curious to hear your opinion. Would you agree that the 4000 sounds the most punchiest out of the other 3 you tested?

    • @deepnoteTV
      @deepnoteTV  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with EA-Ski... would most definitely say the 4k has the most punch of the three. Have fun with your new gear. You will not be disappointed!

      Freddy Fresh soundwise... 2kXL and classic are punchier than 4k. Maybe it has better workflow. Sound wise can’t beat the classic out of this samplers you just mention.
      After roger linn left... mpc started to loose punch with every new edition.

      @@3rd_eyevision While the MPC60 will always be King, those who know will tell you that the little 500 is very similar to the 3000. The same sample rate, same bit depth, same sequencer, same sampling by ear and numbers but the 500 has compact flash and USB plus it has EQ and compression with filters. The 3000 has 16 pads to the 500's 12 and three circuit boards to the 2000 and XL's one. The 500 has a punchy sound that only those who have used other MPC models and actually bothered to learn the 500 will know about.

      @Freddy Fresh 2000 is the best out of that list. It's the first one that was made after the departure of Roger Linn and the last one that was made before Numark bought Akai and made that bs looking 2000xl. Followed by that Akai Workstation that is called an MPC 4000. F*^$ any MPC that came after the 2000. There are only 4 true Akai MPCs. 60, 60 II, 3000, and 2000. The rest of them are Numark Workstations and InMusic Workstations. Which is why Midi production Center was changed to Music Production Center. Not sure why mfs even compare 2000xl on up against the og ish.

      The 4000 had the extra "Hey" sample in it's beat where as the X didn't. Only the 2500 had that sample as well. It would be interesting to see if the X would have sounded better if it had all the sounds in it's demonstration

      I would recommend the 2500 if you prefer hardware and standalone. The Renaissance will need software to work and a computer. The workflow is definitely different and is really a preference.

    I wish Akai would've upgraded or played around with the MPC 1000. I think the 1000 would've looked amazing if they were to have made it less thick (a little bigger in general; not MPC 2500 big, but somewhere in between that and the 1000), applied a new type of tilt screen that's modern with color, have the body material of the MPC Studio Black, thick light up pads from the MPC X, and as always, keeping it traditional with it continuing to be a stand alone.

    I'm happy you did this as I was thinking of getting the X just for the easier sample editing but I also use the 4000 to control a shit ton of old analog synths and it NEVER lets me down with the ability to do complicated key groups, send CC data via q-link to filter cutoffs on synths etc.. not to mention the dope as hell timing... I even use it to do master mixes check this from my Rap Book (most doen on 2xl and 4000 and turntables (multi edits etc.)

    Have you tried holding down shift and pressing note repeat to lock in the note repeat function? There been many years since I sold my mpc4000, but I think in the global setting or some others setting will restart the sequence with the play/start button

    • @deepnoteTV
      @deepnoteTV  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      On the mpc4k the note repeat function is locked by default as the button toggles the function on and off when pressed once and the function is confirmed as on by a small LED located just above the button that stays lit when the function is activated. I will have to look in the globas settings and see if there is anything there regarding the sequence start functions. Thanks for the info.

    • @Heavie486
      @Heavie486 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm sorry, I was referring to note repeat lock for the MPC2500 and MPC X. You said in your video, that you had to hold the note repeat button on the MPC2500 and MPC X to trigger the pads to repeat notes. But the MPC4000's button toggles the note repeat function on and off. That's why I suggested, holding shift + the note repeat button to lock the note repeat into the on position with the MPC2500 and MPC X. I owned the MPC2000, 4000 and 5000 in the past. I now own the REN, the Touch and MPC X, which is pack away in the box in my closet. Reason is Maschine Studio is my weapon of choice now, but I'm still a fan of the MPC and I'm a gear whore.

    Im thinking about buying a mpc 4000 . I have the mpx but need better feel. I had a mpc2500 for 5 years loved it. Should of never sold it. Just got bored and everybody keep pushing me towards vsts and computer interface. It killed my workflow and my creativity. You think a 4000 will be counterintuitive when I have a MPC X?

    • @deepnoteTV
      @deepnoteTV  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Absolutely not! I feel you Bro... I have had a lot of people trying to pressure me into the software side of things, but I know what you mean about the feel. The machines that were made to produce music without the help of a PC will always come out on top with the best feel in my opinion. I have both the 2500 and the 4000. I started to get rid of the 2500, but decided to keep it because I like to switch up from time to time. You are right on point!

      Actually, when I first bought the MPC4000 it was non-operational. I got it at a discounted price and fixed it myself. There are many youtube videos and tutorials on how to repair old equipment and this is how I have survived with vintage gear. I got the unit for under $400, then opened it up and replaced the RAM stick ($10 part) which fixed the problem and saved me quite a bit of money.

    ive had the mpc 2500 before and it has got to be the worse sounding mpc to get that good sound you have to back to the biege mpc 2000xl before numark bought out akai the mpc 2000 , the 3000 and the mpc 60 2 and first mpc 60 is where its at the mpc 5000 in my opinion should have been labeled the mpc 3500 because its very similiar in the sound engine and the only mpc with an actual synth engine that comes close to a moog in my opinion
