You are one of the few fellow booktubers who talk about "The Shards". I really loved this novel and its feverish, posh, 80's atmosphere. I did not think, Robert Mallory is funny though. Ellis's alter ego succeeds in making me presume that Robert is the serial killer or at least connected to him.
Good to see you back! I wonder if you've ever listened to the Our Struggle podcast? It's dedicated to going through the My Struggle books, although they are off topic just as much as (if not more than) when they are on topic. But I really enjoy it, and you may too! The hosts are very amiable and fun to listen to and they have had interesting, quirky guests as well. Love the amount of Scandinavian lit here
I love that you liken Mauvignier to Woolf! I was a fan of Exciting Times as well so need to get a copy of Happy Couple. I've read a few stories from Lahiri's new collection and I'm enjoying their lowkey quality so far. Glad to get your moderate opinion of Big Swiss because I've only heard praise as well but not read it yet. You've got me thinking what my answers would be - esp which character would be my crush. Maybe the billionaire from Birnam Wood? 😅
Aw thanks for the tag, honoured to be paired with Pato! I feel like I haven't read enough books this year to answer all the questions, but maybe I could do it on movies again! I didn't know Naoise Dolan had a new book out! I didn't completely love Exciting Times but I did really enjoy her writing so will definitely add that to my tbr!
our king is back!!! on newest fav character: "manipulative and gaslighty...which i think says a lot about me.." 😭😭😭 also, saw the hours/mrs. dalloway edition at mcnally jackson when i was in ny and i regret not picking it up. might just have to now!
I think min kamp (yep, that's the norwegian title) is really only good in the first two books. the first is definitely the best. it gets more wannabe-proust-white-boring-old-guy in the later books.
OMG YOU ARE BACKKK
extremely relatable when u were like don’t click off as soon as u started taking about Woolf - felt that one in my bones
We miss you very much and hopefully something pulls you back to reading😩😩Forever adore you, Alex.

Couldn’t agree more on the mid-ness of Big Swiss lol. You’ve convinced me to give the Birthday Party a try!! Your videos are always such a treat 🫶🏻
so glad to see you
happy to hear your take on KOK's My Struggle series (and hope you keep going!) I love Book 2 in particular, but 3 and 4 are really worthwhile.
Halfway through book 3 now! Trying to savor this one more than me blazing the first two. Still think book 1 is still my fav for now

Thanks Brixton! I haven’t heard of the podcast! I’m actually halfway through book 3 now. I’ll check it out 🤓

I finished the Lahiri! A bit disappointed since it reminds me of the story version of Whereabouts haha, which I was lukewarm with anyway 😶
Thanks for the update! I hope you get back in to reading soon (if you want!).

My takeaway from this video is: I need to reread Mrs Dalloway.
I need to, too! 💐
