- The Jeffersons (Sherman Hemsley and Isabel Sanford) throw an engagement party for Florence (Marla Gibbs), but her fiancé (Larry McCormick) turns out to be rather unpleasant.
From Season 5, Episode 16 'Florence Meets Mr. Right': Florence meets her new boyfriend, Buzz Thatcher at church, and brings him home to meet Louise and George. However, Buzz is a religious fanatic and a control freak, and when he asks Florence to marry him, Louise thinks Florence is putting herself in a dangerous situation.

Florence did good by putting him in his place telling him off for being so bossy towards her and calling Louise a sinful woman. Florence was not gonna have that.

And some of the things he didn't like was from caveman days, like Florence not being allowed to wear jewelry.

SOME Christian groups and other religious faiths don't allow alcohol, and that's NOT a crime or a sin, because alcohol IS a drug with unpredictable side effects! Buzz tried to force his own distorted ideas about Christianity on Florence, and that's NEVER okay! I think drinking alcohol is a personal choice, and Florence drank it after Buzz left!

Same here. It was the opposite, I’m a guy, and I was abused by a girl. She used to slap me in the face and call me terrible names, and I never called the cops for fear of getting arrested on account of me being a guy.
When you’re a guy it sucks. If you don’t fight back, you’re a wimp. If you fight back you’re a woman beater. If you call the cops, you’re afraid of going to jail because you’re a guy.
I was lucky that her family found out what was happening and helped me get out of that relationship. I owe them big time.
