Exactly what I was going to say! Like your hair before, Karen, but it's looking great now! I know that appearance is not important in the grand scheme of things, but a lot of women are dealing with hair issues thanks to quarantine and it's nice to receive compliments...
The number of times I've determined that a fabric isn't "quite right" and I've gone off to the quilt stores to buy more! Staying "safe at home" has certainly helped me to "trust in the pattern" ! Enjoyed this tutorial very much.
This video made me laugh so hard !!🤣 Thank you for that When ever a day is to long or stressful This is my video to watch I got so happy watching it! I love quilting n playing with fabric! Really enjoy all your videos But this one helps me relax with laughter n love Thank you
Oh my goodness! You are so darned organized!!! One box for every color hue!?!?! This puts you in the Wonder Woman category🦸🏼♀️!! You look very refreshed today - red is a good color for you.
To a fabulous teacher. I’m in Tx. So wish we were closer. I am in the process of teaching a 16 yer old to quilt, so after each session I remind her to watch your show. Starting with the first ones. They are so informative. Keep up the great work. Your fellow quilters Gloria.☝️🧵✝️❤️
Your videos are very good! I am an experianced quilter of 70 who has been quilting by hand for 45 years and I must say your videos are so simple, clear and easy to understand! You are a great teacher.
The most beautiful quilt I've ever seen was made by hand by my great grandmother who was a Choctaw native American. She used scraps of cloth left over from the clothes she made for her family. She used no pattern, no color theory, just stiched them together randomly. It was the most precious thing ever. Over the years it saw so much use that it finally deteriorated and had to be discarded. A sad day indeed. I sorely wish I had a picture of it.
I have only made 4 quilts by hand having Never made a quilt and never having tube. Oh if only I had then, this knowledge. So now my 7 year old puppy got her own quilt. She was so excited!. She loves laying on the couch with me and my quilt. So when she got her own, she was a happy girl! I feel way over my head watching these but ur very funny and enjoy them. Thank you!
I've watched most your videos and just found this that I hadn't. In LESS than two years you have more than doubled your subscribers. At the beginning, you state you are 'so close to 150 subscribers'. As far as I'm concerned it should be a million!!
You have me hooked on Tula Pink's fabrics. I don't have a lot of fabric sources other than Joann's without driving 50 miles. Jordan Fabrics gave me Kaffe Fasset. LOL
Picking fabrics is the absolutely most difficult part for me. I must be colour blind because oh my I find it to be so hard. I'll keep trying and I'm sure your tips and tricks will help. Thanks for the advice and encouragement.
I came across this site by accident, and I am totally hooked. This video is especially helpful because I struggle with color and values, in quilting and in watercolor painting. The use of black and white photos will be very helpful. Thank you. Fabric stash, here I come! Well, maybe after just one more video...
I think what I like so much about you and your channel is, of all the countless channels that show you how to make cute things, you go deeper. You teach more fundamental skills that so many of us don’t consider. Thank you so much!!!
A year later and TH-cam says...here watch this tutorial.....I love Just Get It Done Quilts. You have given me ideas for organizing my quilt room and much more. I have a fabric stash but mine is more like precuts. I have jelly rolls...charm packs and layer cakes but all of my precuts I put a pattern name on all of mine so that way when I get done with 1 quilt I can just grab a precut and I know what pattern I bought the precut for. That way it takes all of the guessing out of..."what quilt did I buy this one for again"...kinda thing. I like to buy fabric when it's on sale lol. Then I'll bring it home and go through my pattern books and find a pattern I think it would look good in and go with it. Thank you for all of your hard work. You are an inspiration to the quilting world. Love your channel! God bless.
Holey moley ! 😱 You just describe me to a tee. I procrastinate and hesitate ... all the while prolonging the inevitable .... it takes a whole mighty lot of persuasion to get started. I will just have to bite the bullet and finally start on making a quilt. Thank you for some of the best tutorials that are out there ! Luvya lotz Karen 🥰️❤️️💕😍😘
Karen, off topic but your peppery hair and that red/white top look AMAZING. I know you touched on the subject on your live video recently. I just wanted to encourage you to GO FOR IT. :) Now, I can't wait to watch this latest video because you are speaking right to me! Cannot decide what to do with my fabrics and afraid to cut for fear I'll make a mistake. Thanks for everything.
Those fabrics and colors were not in my comfort zone at all but I loved the way your quilt turned out. Sometimes it's good to get out of your comfort zone. Love your videos.
This was very helpful. You look so much happier today and your smiling face brightened up my day. Thanks I needed that. It’s not always about quilts it’s community that makes this special.
You are so right. I’d seen all my life when I started quilting 20 years ago. I didn’t realize how important the community would become in my life. It’s been super!
I love all your advice and I can totally identify with the voices in the head problem. I find that when I have expensive fabric it is harder to cut into. I absolutely love making scrap quilts because I never fear wasting any fabrics. If I get too caught up in perfectionism, I look at some of the quilts that both my grandmothers made. They were fearless about combining patterns and colours and they are absolutely my favourite quilts because they have so much personality.
There’s a wonderful place here in Ft. Worth where you can order material that they print on demand. I found a pattern that I just loved. Shades of turquoise with white crosses. Beautiful. So I ordered two yds to just be the main part of the quilt, planning to add to the sides to size it up. Well, the material was so precious that I couldn’t cut it. And...never could match to my satisfaction, anything to piece on the sides. So that wonderful, costly fabric is still in my closet three years later. Yes....I could make a lap quilt and probably will have to, but that’s not what I had in mind. So be careful buying precious fabric.
Hi. I live in Fort Wort. What is the name of the shop that prints on demand? Sounds awesome! Don't beat yourself for keeping the fabric. Just enjoy it.
I want to thank you for doing these videos. You chose a niche for emphasis that no one else was doing - not the tools, not the overall design, not the quilting. You chose how to do all the small steps for a successful outcome. It is SOOOO helpful. And, your videos are so understandable. I have watched some 2 or 3 times, but that was me not you (color theory, i.e.). This video is especially helpful. I have LOTS of patterns and LOTS of fabric, but Could Not Cut. This will get me going.
Karen, your haircut in this video is lovely. It’s soft and frames your face so well and works great with your eyes and glasses, and complements your ears and earrings.
Very well organized stash👍 Yes, my project management professor told us: the worst decision is no decision. If you make the wrong decision you have to do it again, but you made a step forwards.
Where have you been all my sewing life? I struggle with everything you mentioned about making decisions on how to choose fabrics. I am having a great time watching your videos and am learning so much. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
Caren (Karen), I really love your videos, have been watching you for a while, you have so many good ideas, but what I love best is your enthusiasm!!!! You are so much fun to watch and to listen to, you always make my day! Thanks so much.
When on the wonderful world of the web ie TH-cam and Pinterest I happen on to your site and found pay dirt!!! Your tips and tricks have saved me hours of recutting, using my seam ripper not to mention the hours of frustration and disappointment. Thank you so so very much!
Great video ! Glad you don't make colour theory complicated ! The Ontario College of Art has a colour theory course , its intensive! U of T in its art program has a colour theory course ,which discusses how certain colors are based on how light bends etc . You version is simple straight forward and straight to the point . I was wondering if you have done a video on cutting matts ? I was wondering what to look for and how much pressure to apply when cutting and if the Matt's dry out ? There so many different kinds of cutting matts out there ,it can be confusing ! Thanks ,cheers.
First of all, how is your son? I love your hair! It looks really good, I love all your videos, we are headed to the lake & i am taking my sewing machine, so I can make a very hard effort to finish my UFO's. Thanks for all you do to continue to educate me, I have been sewing for many yrs and i always learn something new when I see your videos, again thanks.
Your quilt turned out lovely. You are right set a timeline and the fidgeting stops, the quilting starts and progress starts. Thank you Karen, really enjoy your podcasts, 🌻
I always do scrappy quilts. More than once I have stalled out on a quilt because I couldn't decide which fabric I should put next in the quilt. I finally realized that if I liked it it would work out in the end.
Wow when did you jump into my head. I have made myself learn and then apply and not to fret later. I never point out problems when I show other people my finish. I have learned that I am always learning to quilt better. I love every phase of the process from picking fabrics to putting my own spin on things. I do not worry about cutting because I have a ball with my leftovers and or oopses. Thanks for your down to earth approach and helping everyone new or not new to quilting know that they are never the only one to go through a particular problem. And my friends and I have done enough charity quilts to know that someone will love it.
So many great tips! I've had a quilt since 2000 that I had began with my best friend and she passed away before we could finish, which makes it so hard to get back to quilting. I'm getting there and with your help it is getting easier to have confidence in myself as we were both beginners. It's been 20 years! Thank you for the great videos. I'm subscribed, so I'll not miss any of them. Take care and keep well during the pandemic.
I’m sorry for the loss of your friend, my best friend died and I still miss coffee and chats, in her memory get back to quilting. She would be happy for you, and perhaps she’ll be a helpful angel giving you support through it...when it’s done wrap in it and reminisce about your memories with her
@@Kate98755 Thank you for the kindness Kate. We have so many reasons to quilt and reminisce. Such good advice! God bless and take good care of yourself.
You cracked me up at 8:17 ". . . and now the voices start in your head." I've never quilted, have been watching your videos to get in gear to begin, but I could just see this happening to me, have felt that way on other sewing projects 😄 🙏🏻🙏🏻 Praying for your son and all of you!
Years ago I bought some fabric on a trip in Amsterdam. I don't have a lot, hopefully enough for a wall hanging . However it was expensive and special to me. With the stay at home order, I'm finally thinking it's time to get ready to cut. Notice the hesitation is still there!!! Canadian Sue
I have always watched you on TH-cam -- this Facebook feed is much better. I love your approach! You have inspired me to use up what I have on hand and not buy-buy-buy. So thank you!
Sunshine and Karen in the same morning. YEAH ! Love your hair! Prayers for the family. Only fabric I was hesitant to cut was my daughters wedding dress. Great video, my next quilt will be of all Kaffe s fabric I’ve been collecting. Well not all cause I just have too much. He crams so many fabrics into a quilt it makes my heart sing. Thanks for your upbeat video. Stay well.
I will be making my first quilt from scraps left by my grandmother and I want to use them to piece together a quilt I think she would have wanted to put together herself if she was here. The material has been in about two boxes for decades now because my mother was not into quilting and just made dresses for herself and my sisters. I like the ones you made and if the first one is completed in a decent amount of time I will be making another one from fabric I buy and see if it turns out the way I want it to be.
Awesome video. Personally I enjoy choosing fabrics. I don't stress out, I trust my gut. And if ever I'm questioning a choice I ask a neighbor or someone who knows nothing about quilting about my color choices. Usually an untrained eye can pick out the mistakes real quickly.
That is a good idea. I never thought to ask someone who did not quilt about color. I also go with my gut, sometimes it is very hard to find just the right color. The last time was a gold sort of a burnt gold it took about three weeks to find it. But the quilt turned out very nice.
Trust in the design. I'm a newbie. Just finished my second Crib quilt with my BFF as my Mentor. She's been quilting since about 8. ...coming up on half a century experience! On my first quilt I decided on a Jelly Roll. She suggested some extra blocks. I got all blocks finished and started laying them out. BFF advised how to lay out. ...I tried about 11-ty-70 other layouts...and none were working for me. ...it was those extra blocks! I got advise from family members (non-quilters) who said BFF's layout was beautiful! ...so I backed my ears and went with it. >I< didn't get even partially comfortable with the layout until it was half quilted. I didn't 100% like it until I got the border on. There's so much more to this awesome skill of quilting than meets the eye!
Love your videos tutorials. You really know your fabric and sewing and quilting. You are so helpful in all aspect of my quilting. Thank you so much from Innisfil Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
Okay, had a rough weekend so not quilting today. I decided to watch your channel to get a little more encouragement and inspiration...at the beginning you said you are so close to 150K subscribers and I looked and today it says you have 156K subscribers!! Congratulations Karen!!!! That is the coolest!!!! You are SO my favorite TH-cam channel and if you ever come to a quilt con (after Covid) I hope its near AZ so I can go say hello!!! You are amazing and I hope all is well with you and your family!!!!
Thanks for all the tips and tricks. The black and white photos is a great idea. I often photograph my layout. It is easier to see a glaring block that can be replaced. Also a good idea to hang and photograph the top before quilting. It is easier to see a block not positioned correctly. I mostly quilt for charity with donated fabric. I always say yes and pass on what I don't use. With a mishmash of fabric I don't have nice collections. If I look at a finished quilt and don't really like all the choices I shrug, try to learn something and figure I've spent my time well and made a small dent in Mount scrapmore. Ultimately someone will be warmer and comforted and that is why I quilt.
I'm watching your video before I start my daily telecommute from home. Thanks for a nice start to my day. I appreciate your down to earth manner, friendly face and practical advice. When I finally get my son's quilt done I will share it with you. It is my first full-size quilt. It was supposed to go to college with him. He just finished his freshman year. Oh well - sophomore year, right?
I think your video popped up for a reason. I've got so many projects to do one just a new one so I'm going to cut into the fabric tomorrow 😎 love to be able to get the the states one day, stay safe everyone. Jodie Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺
Dear Karen, thanks so much for your video. I did purchase the 3 - 1 Color Tool. Sorry I didn’t buy through you link....I’m figuring this stuff out. Anyway this video was very helpful as well as the color study videos. Have been sewing and quilting for years but I stay in my comfort zone for sure....!? Need to be a little more intensional and adventurous. Send blessings to you, family and son.
Love your videos. Thank you. I'm color blind so I REALLY suffer when it is time to choose fabrics that go together....lots of texts with photos to others to say yes or no. That's the game I have to play, but so far so good. Ha ha ha, then I have to pick the right color thread...ugh.
Thank you so much, I've had my material for weeks and I'm cutting today!😊 I hope I do good I'm a beginner, please wish me luck this is for my grandbaby!
Your hair looks really good today. I let my hair go "natural" before my first grandchild was born and found the grey suits my skin tone better than the brunette out of the bottle.
I know that we all have had moments when we are too afraid to cut our fabric. I wish I could have you all in for a workshop but this video will have to do.
🙏 for your son 🌹
Thank you
Well, you could do a workshop and we could all fly to Toronto!!!!! . . . but the virus. Oops. Maybe someday.
I think we’ve been so saturated with matchy matchy prints it’s hard in the beginning to break out of collections & bundles with confidence. I love your videos. They’re informative without being “my way is the only way’. Love love love your hair!
That would be a very big class !!
Hope your son is doing well. 👍😎
I think I gravitate to scrappy quilts because of my total lack of knowledge in this area, and the fact, this is one hobby I want to enjoy and not obsess over.
Yes me too. I’m as inspired by the ladies of Gee’s Bend as I am with Karen. I will continue to make the designs that my heart tells me. But I watch Karen’s organized, logical and very watchable videos. Perhaps by osmosis.
Its so reassuring when you say "stick with me and I'll show you how to do it". Ahhh. ☺
Your tip about taking a black and white foto has been such a big help for me!
By the way, I really like how your hair is looking.
Judy Wymore I was going to say the same thing!! I’m liking how her natural gray is coming in. Looks so nice!
agree!!! Looking silver foxy Karen!
I was going to make the same comment. It somehow makes her look younger...
Same thought here... looks great!!
I too have been forced into decisions lately
This video made me laugh so hard !!🤣
Thank you for that
When ever a day is to long or stressful
This is my video to watch
I got so happy watching it!
I love quilting n playing with fabric!
Really enjoy all your videos
But this one helps me relax with laughter n love

I'm a sewer, not a quilter and I still watch your videos!
Thank you
Oh my goodness! You are so darned organized!!! One box for every color hue!?!?! This puts you in the Wonder Woman category🦸🏼♀️!! You look very refreshed today - red is a good color for you.
Super, super, super. I am so grateful you come to my house. And I agree, you are looking great too!

30 seconds in and have to say...you look FABULOUS!
And now...I have a desire to pull a mess of uglies and make another "Walk Around The Park". Thanks Karen.

Thank you. I think I have one more week until I need to cut it
Speaking of color.....those red tones look fabulous on you!
This red has always been my colour 😎
I've watched most your videos and just found this that I hadn't. In LESS than two years you have more than doubled your subscribers. At the beginning, you state you are 'so close to 150 subscribers'. As far as I'm concerned it should be a million!!

I must admit it shocked me when I went to edit.
Your Meadowland quilt turned out beautiful!❤️
Thank you

I learn in spite of myself. You are a good teacher. I make every mistake you point out but I usually do not do it again after your session.
Mistakes are part of the journey. We should have a bingo card 😎
I only just found you but I needed this post as I have been stuck in the overthinking spiral for waaay too long. Thank you so much 👍🏻
Holey moley !
I really like your videos. They are extremely pedagogical without being "I alone know the right answers". They hit a nerve with me. Thank you!!!
Thank you
Hello my friend
Thanks for not to g the nail on the head. It's a challenge to start! Now my new mantra is, "Trust in the design!"

I noticed that too. Good to see 😊👍💕

Hi there Karen I'm sitting here really listening lol lol (smiles)xx
I pray I'll get as organized as you are, someday. ☺️
Karen I like the colour of your hair and the style!
I just began watching your videos. Im not good at sewing but your personality really drew me in. I'm going to try this quilting thing. I sew on hand.
Very well organized stash👍
Yes, my project management professor told us: the worst decision is no decision. If you make the wrong decision you have to do it again, but you made a step forwards.
We think of decisions as wrong and right when most of the time it's good, better, best.
As someone who has been stopped from making a quilt so many times because of questioning myself thank you very much for addressing this issue.
You can do it

So many great tips! I've had a quilt since 2000 that I had began with my best friend and she passed away before we could finish, which makes it so hard to get back to quilting. I'm getting there and with your help it is getting easier to have confidence in myself as we were both beginners. It's been 20 years! Thank you for the great videos. I'm subscribed, so I'll not miss any of them. Take care and keep well during the pandemic.
So glad to hear

I’m sorry for the loss of your friend, my best friend died and I still miss coffee and chats, in her memory get back to quilting. She would be happy for you, and perhaps she’ll be a helpful angel giving you support through it...when it’s done wrap in it and reminisce about your memories with her

@@Kate98755 Thank you for the kindness Kate. We have so many reasons to quilt and reminisce. Such good advice! God bless and take good care of yourself.
You are a frickin' rockstar! Thank you! Fast, Fun & Informative information.
Thanks for watching!
Love your videos and LOVE your hair. You look beautiful. You never need to color it.
Oh thank you!
You cracked me up at 8:17 ". . . and now the voices start in your head." I've never quilted, have been watching your videos to get in gear to begin, but I could just see this happening to me, have felt that way on other sewing projects 😄
🙏🏻🙏🏻 Praying for your son and all of you!
LOL...those voices
Years ago I bought some fabric on a trip in Amsterdam. I don't have a lot, hopefully enough for a wall hanging . However it was expensive and special to me. With the stay at home order, I'm finally thinking it's time to get ready to cut. Notice the hesitation is still there!!! Canadian Sue
Going to have to watch this several times. I don't have a good understanding of hue and value. Tks for making this video.
I have a whole series on colour theory for beginnersth-cam.com/play/PLchS26NEYgVzgO4TjvwNQzHECwJS0b6KE.html
You look fabulous! The video was also informative, but that was what struck me hardest - how great you look!
😊
Your hair looks great! Thanks for a great video!
Stay well.
Love your videos. Absolutely love your red hst wall hanging, can't stop analyzing it.
All of your vids & vlog posts are terrific, inspiring & fun. But really, your hair though. Too cute. You bring me joy.
It’s a date 🖐
Your hair is beautiful!!!! Glad you are embracing the natural look.
Ohhhhhhh...that is me. THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH
Thanks for all the tips and tricks.
Thanks for the encouragement! Love your videos, and love the natural color of your hair...seriously. It looks great!
I’m looking forward to it
I really like your hair. So many of us are dealing with quarantine hair, but yours looks good on you.
I enjoy your videos. You are a good teacher and source of encouragement. Your sense of humor shows, too.
Lol! The voices in our head second guessing! Your videos have helped me!! Thank you 😊
I think your video popped up for a reason. I've got so many projects to do one just a new one so I'm going to cut into the fabric tomorrow 😎 love to be able to get the the states one day, stay safe everyone. Jodie Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺
Loved that quilt! To newbies, don’t overthink, it will drag you in! Lol speaking from experience. Thanks Karen, great video!
Your hair looks beautiful!
😊thank you
I was thinking the same thing! Really, really pretty.
I have taken MANY design courses and they all start with a recap of color theory!!! ITS SO IMPORTANT
Love your videos. Thank you. I'm color blind so I REALLY suffer when it is time to choose fabrics that go together....lots of texts with photos to others to say yes or no. That's the game I have to play, but so far so good. Ha ha ha, then I have to pick the right color thread...ugh.
I love your videos. You have a lovely calming voice which gives me confidence to try new things.
Thank you so much, I've had my material for weeks and I'm cutting today!😊 I hope I do good I'm a beginner, please wish me luck this is for my grandbaby!
You can never do too much color theory! Thanks
Your hair looks really good today. I let my hair go "natural" before my first grandchild was born and found the grey suits my skin tone better than the brunette out of the bottle.
Sometimes nature knows best!(you know, platinum is very vogue nowadays!)🤫
I love your hair. Do not to color it!! It looks GREAT!!
