Mics or no mics lil Fred has mastered the art of dynamics with every chop or roll since he was 10 years old. His stokes are independent of each other with no clutter.
I've heard of both and Matt's drumming in animals as leaders is machine-like awsome. But here i'd say it's matt that's having to keep up with Fred.. He's actually ridiculous, and his explosive creative flow seems endless.. Super confident with an extensive vocabulary.. Bad man!
At this level its less about who is better and more just what flavor you prefer. Both are unreal excellent. There’s things in both players that I prefer over the other but this isn’t really a representation of what they’re capable of either - clearly as both within a band setting are even more incredible.
this never ceases to amaze me, the brevity of Fred's phrases are literally breathe taking. Matt's chops are as sharp as katanas slicing through my cerebral infatuation
Me personally, I think Matt was onpoint... double bass, singles, speed, rudiments... gave Fred a run.. I enjoy both players no bias. The mics on Freds kit were hotter than Matts... either way #salute to both #musicians Peace* Vick_
I was hoping to see matt kill it a bit harder personally...definitely on point though...he's great, I am not familiar with gospel chops at all, lol besides Gartska, and I was very impressed with fred, definitely had hot mics though, and I also prefer to hear matt playing Meinl
wow, just wow. Garstka really brought his A-game in this video. I've never seen him own so hard. the talent and skill and speed in this video is just mind-boggling
That drum set fred is on u can hear the dynamics n chops alot cleaner n rich matt mics were low and u couldnt really feel the chops but both dudes are beastin
Ricky Rockaboy Harris in all honesty i think fred was playing like that because of the track its a rock track. A gospel track u can use more dynamics. Rock music uses less dynamics than gospel music or rnb and soulful music
The channel's called Gospel Chops, not Gospel Groove or Gospel Hang In The Pocket. Personally, I think they were exceptionally dynamic, especially given that context. Drummers don't get much better than this.
Rkiser0592 not bashing their chops, just saying they could play with more range and feel is all. They are just flying around for the most part. I know they could play better dynamically.

actually I'd bet that everyone featured in this DVD and a lot of people who haven't been featured from all around the country can play these and others' licks without even having to break them down.. you get to a certain point of mastery with this style to where you can deconstruct anything just by hearing / seeing someone play it. If you jammed with Matt you'd know that. Once you get as good as these guys then it's all a matter of preference in the sound that is unique to their playing.
Eh. They both have their strengths and weaknesses. It seems like Matt is crushing his left and bass splits (playing too fast?) which almost emphasizes Fred's ability to fit right up in that muhfukin pocket which is more enjoyable for me. Fred gets excited and hits the drums in weird places sometimes tho...my 2cents
Bass is too loud. Trying to hear the intricacies of the drums but my sub woofer is not being very courteous to me or people under my floor. I can't turn it up without a thundering BA DA BUM! every measure.

I wanna see an updated shed with these doodz.. They've both gotten so much gnarlier
Well Fred got picked up by guitarist John Sykes last I heard.
never heard of fred boswell but man he can def keep up with matt
Dan Hahn Yeah, seen some of his other videos. I got the impression he could solo all day if he had to.
More like matts keepin up with fred
Dale Davis ye Fred is one of thoughs child prodigy
@@daledavis9032 facts ! Matt is my guy but man Fred just was on another level

Holy mother fuck , these guys are just bananas. One of the best gospel chops shed I've ever seen.
This is just 2 great rhythm brothers having some chooped up fun learning more about different ways to approach the instrument. LOVE DRUMZ!! PEACE.
this never ceases to amaze me, the brevity of Fred's phrases are literally breathe taking.

amazing job. both drummesr are playing with heart. the people keep thinking that its a match. it is only music, art, beauty, with all respect.
Me personally, I think Matt was onpoint... double bass, singles, speed, rudiments... gave Fred a run.. I enjoy both players no bias. The mics on Freds kit were hotter than Matts... either way #salute to both #musicians

Why because I said Matt was on point? Smh
I was hoping to see matt kill it a bit harder personally...definitely on point though...he's great, I am not familiar with gospel chops at all, lol besides Gartska, and I was very impressed with fred, definitely had hot mics though, and I also prefer to hear matt playing Meinl
Definitely stay at it! They do this exercise at Berklee, and it's why both these gentleman are so good at it. Doesn't come without practice!
wow, just wow. Garstka really brought his A-game in this video. I've never seen him own so hard. the talent and skill and speed in this video is just mind-boggling
I like freds blistering singles linear style, Matt always brings the flams. His double bass interlacing was a nice touch
Thanks
surprised there isnt 100,000 views at least, this is some damn good stuff, keep it up guys.
Gartska with the slay.
That's was AMAZING. Watching the drummer of Animals as Leader and a finalist of Drum off 2011. O_O
My heavens, I dunno if I seen dudes shred like these guys before. Absolutely unreal.
They both killed it but I have to give it to Fred!
Exactly mate! More cleaner, more surprising, more hybrid player than Matt...whatever is the case, both of these dudes just killz it!
matt's groan at the fumbled handshake at the end
Wow!
Keep going, they did!
Would love to shed with both these guys. I would get torn apart of course, but it would be mad fun
fred boswell = gospel chops live!!!
Where do you begin to try and break down any of those crazy chops!?
Amazing AF!
Wohohoho!!
People don't read the titles... It clearly said they share gospel chops... Not battle

I think my man Matt definitely has it on speed 3:30... You don't see that everyday hahahaha. Love both of these guys though
i fuckin lost it at that point
Show!
Fred killin as per usual
Is there a transcription for this anywhere?????
lol well i love drumming. Hopefully some day in the future I'll be way better than today!
did you?
Se nota que es un tipo muy humilde Matt.
Incrível 👏👏👏👏
2:26 Thats the new Zildjian silent crash I think! haha
woah. matt 3:52 - 3:57 sounds like a inverted paradiddle or something. sounds wicked.
Where can I get this seamless track?!
the beginning had me weak man hahahahaah
I think Matt was demonstrating much more dexterity and speed in this particular video, but Fred had much more energy and better rhythms
Agreed, but they both play with the same energy!
Smh Fred turning up the heat out here. This dude has gotten way better when we were in middle school! #RealTalk
keep playin dude. no reason to quit, but be inspired by these guys! :)
sick!
I want this track they're playing on..
Any one knows where i can get it..?
it actually is a pillow. ikea has em
Holy fucking chops!
7:00 - 7:10. NIIIIIIICCCCEEE!!!!
Sticking for 0:40
L - dang
R - woo!
wow
okay, so... should I keep playing drums, or should I just quit?
chop chop chop yeahhh
Matt is like Eric Moore meets Vinnie Coliauta. Getting some serious Eric Moore vibes here from Matt, but mixed with Vinnie Colaitua
Matt is amazing, but Fred is otherworldly
i love this shit !!!
I’m surprised their drumsticks didn’t just vaporize into dust after that
1st off, wasn't a battle, 2nd, Matt's a lot better
Freds part from 3:03 to 3:13 is still the coldest to me
This is what they do at Berklee.
boswell always win
Monster Fuckers he really does since he was like 12 funny there a video of him against the drum teacher when he was in high school killed him
gospelplayer2 - General RAWR Link me bro!
I just wish they used more dynamics. It gets old seeing them beat their kids to hell.
The channel's called Gospel Chops, not Gospel Groove or Gospel Hang In The Pocket. Personally, I think they were exceptionally dynamic, especially given that context. Drummers don't get much better than this.
Beating their kids to hell? You sure you're on the right channel, bro?
uuuuh there's more dynamics in a quarter bar of what they play..then you can even fathom....definitely in the wrong place
Rkiser0592 not bashing their chops, just saying they could play with more range and feel is all. They are just flying around for the most part. I know they could play better dynamically.

Hi Matt, I am from the UK and I would like to know more about your skype lessons please...
Fred Jr. went "Animal" on set....
why do the cymbals sound so processed? the drums too, though less so. Bad rip?
"Chops" is what people call the ability to play fast and complex music.
why it is called "chops" someone explain me please.
fred fucking murdered this shit
That pillow shedding tho
OOWWWWW FILL 2:12 NICCEEE
Fred jr got that lead foot though..
My gawd Fred 3:00. wow

Matt's doubles are positively terrifying..
Fred has a new group called MotherDog....checkem out!
1:15 is when they start to kill
somehow, fred just looks like Thomas Pridgen with shorter hair.
Boswell with the kill. They both did well. Garstka has rudiments, but Bowell's lickers are cleaner and more creative.
Julian Berry Nah
yeah
Is this real world?
2:54 damn
Jack Heet Fucking insane.
make it by yourself ! ;)
It seems like fred has more creativity, that's what i see from this video
cut to the future: matts one of the most creative present day dudes
So sick.. 3:10 is fire.. but garstka gots the matches..
I dont care wat nobody sayyyy fred boswell jr crushed his lil ass
If they had to just play in a 16th note note rate, it would be Fred all day.
freds mics were hotter, his camera angles were better, his drums even seemed to be eq'd better. i think there may have been a slight bias on this shed
OMG 3:03-3:13
4:31
Both of which are alien...
fred boswell jr
Every time 3:10 gets me
omg 3:52 - 3:56
fred wiped him yo
I dunno - do you derive pleasure from it? I like to trade stocks, but I think I'll just give the money back cause I'm not Lloyd Blankfein;)
then theres luke holland
4.20 my god....
geez...................................................................................
2:54
😶😶😶😶
Sick.
Bass is too loud. Trying to hear the intricacies of the drums but my sub woofer is not being very courteous to me or people under my floor. I can't turn it up without a thundering BA DA BUM! every measure.
3:10
