I think I have a cd of this floating around somewhere LOL. I love Roxette. This is a great song. Very representative of the videos and styles of the time as Mike mentioned below. Love it. Great job Maggie!
The layered part were the background singers, as you can hear not the same voice. Marie sings to your dre..... and then stops singing and the background vocals kick in.
I am probably one of the biggest Roxette fans in the world and have followed Per and Marie (RIP) since 1989 and travelled numerous times from Australia to Sweden for Per Gessle and Gyllene Tider concerts and also have over 2000 of their records in my collection so I think I’m qualified to tell you the background behind the song. Per wrote this song after talking to a close friend all night who was considering divorcing his wife. The demo was made in Tits and Ass studio in Halmstad Sweden with lead vocals from a male perspective sung by Per. It was also co written by Mats MP Persson (who was in GT with Per) The final version of the song was recorded in the old EMI studio in Stockholm Sweden for the look sharp! LP and was released as the second single. When Per wrote this so he deliberately made it sound like a huge 80s power ballad with big choruses and a big guitar solo to the point where is almost absurd it just snuck in in 80s by 2 years but wow! The Doug Freel directed music video for this song was recorded during the Look Sharp Live! Tour at Borgholm Castle ruin on the Swedish Baltic Sea island of Öland.i noticed you mentioned the vocal layering of the song this was because the version of the song on the video is the finished version of the song with crowd sounds added and an additional ooooooo at the beginning . that nights show they knew they were doing a video so LTYH was done with playback for the video. I still get goosebumps listening to the songs with Marie on lead vocals and sometimes even get a tear in my eye. The Joyride continues……
I saw Roxette live in concert in 1992. Their studio albums were always well produced, but I enjoyed their live performances even better. Her live vocals were amazing. In the early 1990s they had a heavier rock sound with electric guitars. They hit it big around the time of the Milli Vanilli lip sync controversy and they were making a big point that they really sang and played their instruments. Their concerts really rocked, but her singing always shined through! I believe this music video uses the studio recording which is why you can hear the layered vocals. I had not heard that she had passed away- that is very sad.
Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle is what defines the swedish spirit. I listened to them on friday for the first time in literally 5 years. Roxette is underestimated nowadays.
Aah, Roxette. Before Per and Marie formed Roxette they were both well-known in Sweden. Per was the lead singer in the pop group Gyllene Tider (Golden Times) and they were my absolute favourites age 10-13.
I listened Gyllene Tider for first time in the radio in Argentina back in 1995 when I was a teenager, I adore them. I sing all their songs but I dont have any clue what I'm saying.
Roxette was a hit in Ecuador back in the day. Years ago, I found Marie's "Het Vind" on a CD sale for a dollar and bought it. Years later I came by a Gyllene Tyder live CD. I love Pers' and Marie's voices on any incarnation and language. "Het Vind" is sooo eighties but I just love it. And Gyllene Tider are just epic!
I love the classic 80s synths in this. Everything you hear there is just dropping with 80s production. And she was such a great singer. I love the grit in her voice.
You Rick Rolled us! 🤣 I agree that this is pure 80s, not just the vocal techniques that you mentioned, but the slick and almost formulaic professional production. A very good example of that style. Really nice singing as well. Loved your interesting and informative reaction and analysis. Editing is nicely done fun. ❤
@@maggiereneemusic How is it possible not to enjoy a Maggie Reneé video? To me it isn't because you make the heart of your viewers warm and filled with joy and love!💜😇🌞
You know, Roxette had an ability that I didn't find back then and I certainly don't find now in music and that is the capacity to "make you feel like youre at home". Were they "cheesy" sometimes? Sure they were. But I can't explain, I still hear their tracks and they make me feel at home. Not necessarily the "big hits" like this one. There's one track from them called "Here comes the weekend" that supersizes that feeling (as an example). Don't ask me why cause I can't explain but it hits something we probably don't know we have.
Marie was beyond awesome. She passed away on 9 Dec 2019😔 they have SO many hits to react to. It just happens (the 2nd last video Marie appeared in), Anyone, Crash boom bang, Do you get excited. My top 3 were not singles, but they're amazing! Waiting for the rain, Breathe and also My world my love my life ❤️❤️❤️
Pat Benatar started out as an opera singer and rocked the 1980's, filling arenas throughout the decade. That she isn't in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame is a crime. Her best performances are from live performances in the 80's, especially Hell is for Children.
Before and beside Roxsette she also had an solo career with 8 album from 1984 to 2013. 7 in Swedish and the change (from 2004) in English, recorded short after she got the diagnose cancer.
When I got my first CD player this was the first CD I bought. After listening to music on cassette, scratchy vinyl, and transistor radio, this was a miracle!
Great job Maggie. My previous comment isn't showing so here's another, lol. Yes totally 80's in all things. As you see more 80's concert type videos you will see these things over and over again. :D It was the thing to do. And yes she was pink before there was a pink kinda. So sad we lost her at such a young age.
Marie Fredriksson was a great singer. And Per Gessle is a genius at writing catchy pop songs and nonsense lyrics that sound great even when they don't make any sense (this one more than some others). I just recent the man because every time I buy a USB memory stick or a hard drive he gets a little piece of that money just because he is one of the biggest Swedish music artists in Sweden. See the music industry in Sweden managed to convince politicians to put a tax on cassette tapes back in the day because it was legal to copy music between friends and family and from the radio for private use. And for some reason that maffia organization has managed to get that tax expanded to every storage media sold in Sweden no matter what it's used for. The memory card for your digital camera? That can hold hundreds of thousands of songs! Pay up sucker! 😂
