The colourful birds are Rainbow Lorikeets. They live in my area in their thousands. The pink and grey ones are Galahs. The large white ones are Sulphur-Crested Cockatoos and they’re the biggest population.

You are correct - Australia is both.
Geographically, Australia is a continent...it sits on its own tectonic plate. Politically, Australia is a single country.

@@markgrech1866 You know, Australia looks a LOT like an island to me too but we're knocked out of the category because we've got that whole tectonic plate under us. It knocks us out of contention.

Amazing Australian series. Wow! I had never heard about a silkie chicken before. Interesting... Even though you're not allowed to hug the koalas, at least you experienced being up-close to them. I disagree some of your observations, the guys you met in Mt Druitt, you said one has waited 10 years for Gov't housing so he is living with his Mum, he told you he has all the education etc, I'm guessing this was the guy sitting down, firstly what gives him the right to think the gov't should just supply him housing, there are thousands of people in dire situations who genuinely need gov't housing in front of him, he seems pretty settled, living with his Mum on gov't benefits, able to sit around all day pondering life.
You're telling me in 10 years an education person can't get a job in Sydney what a load of rubbish, I have never been out of employment for more than two weeks in the last 20 years, if he is educated and doesn't have a good paying job after being here for 10 years it's because he doesn't want a job, these people are typically called professional bludgers, unemployment rate in Sydney is a measly 3.1%, there are plenty of jobs out there if you want them.
IF you are educated you WILL get a good paying job in Sydney and you can pretty much rent a nice place in most suburbs, IF you are NOT educated you will still get a decent paying job but only if you want a job, The attitude of relying on Gov't benefits and waiting around for the gov't to give you a house is ridiculous, you are never going to get anywhere if that's your mindset, this man needs to wake up and take responsibility for his life, use the gov't assistance to get further education, stop waiting for someone else to save you, get off your bum and change your situation, quit feeling sorry for yourself waiting for the gov't to magically "fix" your life.

Come to Qld , you can hold koalas here. It’s a NSW law that you can’t hold one … You are right , in the wild they don’t like being picked up. I tried to save a baby one that couldn’t get over a property fence to a tree it was pacing about. I picked it up to put it over the fence so it could get to the gum tree and it was savage ! I got a beach towel from my car and tried again, it raced up the tree when I placed it over the fence . They have massive claws as I’m sure you saw.

I hadn't heard that!! I live in NSW on Central Coast which is very close to several wildlife parks. You can certainly hold koalas and also have your photo taken. Also there are koalas still in the wild up here and areas like Siding Springs and Coonabarabran where the clearest skies in the southern hemisphere exist and can be viewed at the Southern Observatory through their giant telescopes.

Ivain great insight onto why sometimes you emphasize the black experience. As an African living in the US I should say i find the emphasis of race in the US very troubling. I have travelled around the world and I travel as a man not as a black man. I have been to China, Korea on a train across the country as the only black person in Poland, England etc all over Africa off course and never been subjected to racism. The most important advice I would give to people concerned about racism is first present yourself as an honorable person , learn the ways and local culture and you will be fine. You cannot go to a country where everyone speaks softly, shout at the top of your lungs and when people look at you crazy scream racism.
The final thing i will say is have grace. People are curious and thats ok. If a white man or woman goes to an African village, kids will follow them around ouf of curiousity but no hatred. So if we travel to spaces where there may have little interaction or experience with black people we should be patient and not treat any reaction that seems over the top as racism. But if you should face racism , confront it head on unless your life is in danger. Safe travels brother.

Staying in Sydney and didn’t show the beautiful harbour and beaches, botanical gardens and Taronga 🤷‍♀️ you would have seen lots of cockatoos and galahs around Sydney city, but you dont have to travel far outside Sydney City to see Australian animals living their wild life.

Go to a pub and meet the locals , and you’ll have mates who will look after you and show you around .

It is very simple. Australia is a continent because it is a large body of land surrounded by water. It is ALSO a country because it is an independently governed area of land. One doe not negate the other. We just happen to be the only country that is also a continent.

Hi Ivain, I was born, lived and worked the majority of my life right in Sydney .. and gotta say you were so wrong, the bird life in Sydney city is crazy. Also Australians by nature, all Aussies, dont like talking about themselves to strangers, and asking people about their personal lives, wages etc, is simply seen as bad manners, we're friendly but not huggers. As I commented to one of your other videos .. which I've enjoyed by the way .. I've travelled all my life and every country has different cultures, and honestly Ivain you cant neet and know people in a couple of days. And truly, most Aussies have never tasted kangaroo. 💕

Where do you get the idea that we eat kangaroos "to control the population"?? Kangaroos are mainly made into dog and cat food. Most Australians, apart from Aboriginals who hunt them, do not eat Kangaroo. Or they might try it only occasionally. Only farmers think kangaroos are pests, but they have taken the kangaroos land. The bird is pronounced EEEM-you, not ee-MOO. Glad you had a good time. You're wrong about social class. Some people have a chip on their shoulder. I am poor and was poor in Sydney many years ago. Never felt a class difference. Sydney is one of the most expensive cities in the world. You should go to smaller towns, beaches, mountains next time. We have snow fields, too.

@@IvainTures hahahaha you sound like one of those Americans that gets stopped in the street and asked on camera "can you name one country for me?". They always say "like, eurooooope? Orrrrr maybe like africaaaaa?". 😂😂😂 When I was a kid I had a bunch of shirts like that from my south african step mother. People would say "where are you from?" Like the pure genius I was I'd say "Australia" So then they'd say, where did you get that beautiful shirt from? So as a little kid you'd reply "my mum" 😂😂😂 Then finally, "where is your mum from?" And then it got properly confusing when you'd say "Rhodesia". They say "that's not a country" and as a little lid you're just like "that's where she's from 🤷‍♂️". I do appreciate the arguably very funny situation where the whitest white kid that has ever whited is wearing african clothes and saying "my mum is from Rhodesia" in what was basically thick south african / black african mum voice". Hey that's what Australia is all about. Holy shit have I laughed about it a lot since then. 😂😂 I just realised, she's saffie/Zimbabwean and the dearest person to me on earth. Maybe the food has something to do with it hahahahaha why was she always trying to feed me 8000 times a day? She trying to make a little butter ball kid? 😂😂😂

Yeah man, lets have it all! 😂 Oceania is the region and that includes Australasia (Aus and NZ) Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia. Interestingly enough Polynesia includes Hawaii, it isn't part of North America as one would assume.
I'm from Queensland (QLD) you can pay a little extra at parks here and hold and be photographed with a koala. I didn't know that wasn't the case down in NewSouth.
Next time you come here you must come to QLD. We are the tourist state, the Sunshine state. Gold coast with its theme parks, Sunshine coast, Great Barrier Reef and all the beautiful Whitsunday islands. The most beautiful beaches in the world.

It's a pity that you didn't get to pat a koala but I am glad they are putting them first (ones which have been born in zoos may be less stressed with people than rescues). Sydney is a very fast pace city, faster paced then other Aussie cities (and less easy going) so I'm not surprised you had trouble stopping and talking to people there (Sydney is my less favorite Aussie city due to the pace of it and the roads). Emu pronunciation isn't like 'oo' as in 'moo' but 'ew' as in 'new' like E-mew.
If you come back to Australia, check out other Aussie states eg Queensland (not just Brisbane but also the Sunshine coast and Gold Coast there). If you want something like wildlife you could also visit somewhere like Kangaroo Island in Sth Australia and spending some time there, if you go there staying in the National Park caravan park is great.. a walk to the beach in the National park and you can also see wild Australia sea lions there (Kangaroo Island (SA), there are wallabies all over kangaroo Island. There and Queensland are my favourite Australian places. or go for a dawn or dusk walk/tour somewhere like Warrawong Wildlife Sanctuary (Sth Australia) so you can see also things like potoroos, bilbies, possible platypus in a wild setting etc
When feeding animals, try not to let the food in up in their eyes, that would have probably hurt the animal some. I was a bit shocked how hungry the animals there seemed to be, the way that kangaroo was grabbing, he was very hungry same with the others. Most places give pellets to feed the animals. Silkie chickens which are quite common in Australia make great pets (I used to have one), they are known to be a breed of chickens which are very gentle too.

To clarify on the kangaroo population, there are 4 species that are each numbered in the millions. They are the ones that we eat, they're hunted for population control under strict licencing laws and regulations - which means no one can just go out and hunt them on a whim, because even though they are hunted, it's restricted, monitored and controlled, because they are still a protected native animal. There are also other species of kangaroo and wallaby that are not allowed to be harmed due to having lower and at-risk populations.
I'd be inclined to say that it's not racism or classism that separates people in Australia but the attitude of the individual that does it. Some people don't want to be part of society, they don't want to work, they don't want to do anything other than mope around in their own misery and blame everyone and everything else for their state of existence. Others simply don't know how to fit in. Those that reach out and ask for help will get it, and they can learn and move on and get a life and live well here. The secret to success in Australia is to treat other people as your equal no matter what their circumstances are. We don't judge people based on their skin colour, their job title, or how much money they have in the bank. We will judge you based on how you treat other people, including the lowest of us. Treat the homeless person and the high ranking politician with exactly the same respect and you'll get respect in Australia. Behave as if you're better than others due to your job, education, money, or fame, and you won't get very far at all.
