This tune references the Big Scioto River that empties into the Ohio right below Portsmouth Ohio..There was an old summer Shawnee Indian Village and Camp there for when they would cross the river for forays into Kentucky. There is also a Little Scioto River..Portsmouth is in Scioto County, OH. Simon Kenton and D Boone were early frontiersmen that dealt with the Shawnee..There are books concerning these early men...The Frontiersman was written about Simon Kenton..My relative Joseph Drake the long hunter was killed by the Shawnees near Boonesboro..
The paths blazed by Simon (Butler) Kenton and Jacob Greathouse (Wheelhouse) are well known to all members of the Fort Macintosh Society, 15009. I think Kenton surveyed more land in The Ohio River (Northwest Reserve) country than anyone else.
Been looking for this and found it what a great sound I'm 64 and playing fiddle since I was 62 I lucked out what a joy and a way to start my day....Thanks
Excellent
