I'm no monkey ball expert but I'm sure that if he fails in the no banana mode it restarts that level whereas if he does it normally he can continue to practice
Played it on the DS. It was quite a bit of fun, although it also got quite frustrating at times. The minigames were surprisingly fun, too. I didn't like the ultra-precise stages that you need to carefully crawl over (unless i found a way to cheese them, that was always fun), but the most enjoyment by far is from going completely bonkers bananas on the velocity and exploit the game's physics by wildly racing across the levels at maximum velocity.
Thats exactly how the game was meant to be played. Monkey Ball was originally an Arcade game, so it was all about retrying to do better, trying new things, trying to beat your times, etc.
4:45 In my books, I think beating the level then getting a banana afterward is free game, so don't worry about failure here. This applies to every other stage with this dilemma.
Here’s an interesting idea I had for a challenge run. Can you beat (any Mario game) by defeating every enemy. The rules are simple. Whenever you hop into a level, not one single member of Bowser’s army must survive! You gotta go out of your way to kill them all! The only exceptions being endlessly respawning enemies and unkillable enemies.

At first the addition of jumping felt like cheating, but then it opens up so many awesome strategies, some of which are still really hard, just in a new fun way. It's pretty cool
This reminds me of the time I tried doing a Bananaless Story Mode playthrough on the original GameCube version of SMB2. This means i was on a version where jumping was not a thing yet. It's surprising how far I got with no bananas, the stage that ended my run was Sieve.
There is a tiny bit of information that wasn’t pointed out when talking about going straight using a keyboard. On all the versions of the game, when going straight, your character will veer either to the left or right. It’s quite annoying. However, only on PC, when you use a controller, there is a setting you can change called your deadzone shape. If you change that to square, you should be able to hold up and go straight. There is a video by Helix13_ that shows you how to do it.
You made stamina master harder than you needed, you coulda used the jump exploit from the starter platform and then the slow mo to get extra distance for the goal
Banana Mania is actually such a great game. The option to use/not use jump is great. Turning feels abit odd and some collision isnt the same but honestly thats about all I can critique it for. Oh and wishing there was a deluxe challenge run instead of deluxe levels being seperate
My only issue with this challenge is aren't the hitboxes on the rings and bananas different? I imagine the hitboxes on the rings would be smaller. That would make things easier, yeah?

I tried to do this a few months ago, and yeah it's pretty hard. You ended up doing a lot better than I did.
