Losing my A-Class mojo

- The Mercedes-Benz A-Class was a game changer for the brand. But a few generations in and I can't help but feel it has lost its wow factor. Especially at the price point. You aren't getting too much car for the amount you're paying. It has some great points, but I am sad to say that I have lost my A-Class mojo.

Hi Juliette, I see in your newer videos you have much more footage of the car itself which is a lot better than before. It’s nice that we can see more of the vehicle, and in my opinion you should add a bit more, even add some shots of less shown things such as the start button, spare wheel, etc.. Even some rolling shots if you’re able to.
Just my opinion, love your reviews .
its done for South Africa, 950k for this plastic piece of crap car. They say the Fx rate will go to 25 in the next 3 years, get your 2020/21 model of whatever whilst you still can
thats good advice
With a 3 cylinder engine! It's ridiculous to think you can a 320d brand new with less that price or a low mileage C Class.
@lesediseemela9856 and the BMW is just build better, even the 1 series😂
@@danielbredenkamp3957 yes better but still far from good. Bmw gives expensive troubles when out of motorplan, and they will give trouble.
@@MrMoss786 as will most other cars, even Toyota...😂
This is what cars have turned out to be. Just buying a badge instead of a justified product for the price you are paying. Honestly, if the Chinese manufacturers didn't introduce their cars with the quality that they have in today's world, this type of price tag and quality would have been accepted as is and never questioned. Now, in no means am I saying that a Chinese car is a Mercedes, but in some instances, you do get better value for money there than in most big name brands. It's also crazy that with this money, you can literally buy a Ford XLT, a BMW 1 series, A black badge tiggo 8 pro, a Kia Sportage top spec...and many more brilliant bigger cars. The one thing the A 220d has for it is that there aren't many small sedans in its segment and that it has exceptional fuel efficiency. It's sort of like it's own competitor in that space , so Mercedes-Benz kinda like gets away with it.
This is a beautiful and honest review as always Juliet. Thank you ❤
I'm a Merc fan, but the price for this A class is just stupid
The traffic light feature is not of any real value to us here in South Africa, but having driven in parts of Europe, I wish I had that feature on many occasions as more often than not, traffic lights are obscured, especially in France.
They do not have double sets of lights at the intersections like we have over here. You only get 1 pair of lights right on top of where you need to stop and the lights are at low level so your very own car blocks you from seeing the lights... Unless you stop a while car length back from the intersection, then only one can somewhat view the really tiny traffic lights they have over there.
The prices are just ridiculous. I think Mercedes also realised this and that’s the reason why there won’t be a 4th gen A-Class.
Mercedes-Benz used to be so luxurious, not so much any more, other brands are more luxurious or are becoming more luxurious, and much cheaper.
Worst and plasticky rattletrap car I ever owned was a 2021 A200d hatch. It was horrendous to say the least. The tacky fancy screens and dashboard rattled non stop. The dealer with Mercedes AG couldn’t solve the rattles. The door cards are brittle cheap and the door handles squeaked every time I closed the door. Radio quality was pathetic: tinny crap speakers. Main info screen went blank a few times.
I got rid of it after 10months.
The W206 C220d I got after that A Class was equally poorly screwed together and rattled and squeaked similarly. And that’s not even mentioning the constant software updates. SRS module broke 10 days after delivery which meant the car was unsafe to drive as none of the safety features worked. Spent a month waiting for the part which was pathetic as they build these fake Mercs in East London. Again rattles were the death of that car.
No: Mercedes has lost the plot entirely with the A Class. And C Class.
Happy Holidays ! I also love I've had it 😀😀.
This is now the R1million Mercedes with the 1300 Renault engine😂😂😂
I think they’re discontinuing the A Class production in 2025 - so, even Merc share your sentiment 😉 . Not sure if its just the hatch or the whole range.
No more singing as of late?
either south africans are actually rich or car manufacturers are taking us for an absolute ride 😩😩
Love merc and had an A220d its punchy and fuel efficient. However, this thing is not comfortable, and I had to sell it after 2 years of ownership.
I had the A45S worst car I’ve ever had. The build quality wasn’t there and it broke down, a lot.
Fun fact: the w201 a.k.a the baby benz was Mercedes's entry level model until the launch of the A class way back in 1997
You can buy cherry tiggo 7, and suzuki baleno and probably still have change to buy new furniture and clothes!
Or just the baleno and invest over 600k, you will not get the respect you expect from this little mercedes
Why no more music and singing in some of the most recent video's?
future big depreciator
The 2 series gran coupe, 218d comes in nearly R200k less then this with 110kw and 350Nm. Would be interesting comparison
Merc are always 30% more for a supposed premium which does not exist
hi can you add a pic of the car on the thumbnail.thank you keep pushing p
The front is nice but the back, not so much.
Nice car look but nah the price is a put off 😢
The side-on view looks similar to a BM 3 series...
right.. and more specifically the E generation of BMW
honestly if you pay over R950K I think there are better bigger cars mostly Cross Overs......unless if one is really really pressed to drive a three pointed star this car doesn't make sense besides sedans are dying
Boot is 405 litres 👍 not 500 litres
Merc have definitely lost the plot , im very sorry but there is no ways in hell one can pay so much money and not be totally happy . In years gone by Mercs cost more and definitely delivered more . Today the brand is resting in those laurels . The A class and X class are glaring examples of their failure
It's not going to sell
Juliet, thank you for the video and test drive of such a cool and excellent car, like you yourself, you have a very pleasant appearance and are so beautiful, but it’s upsetting that your trip was short, in my opinion, I have a desire to be with you all the time
… creepy.
The A class had a significant price increase. It’s still a good car but they dropped the pick of the bunch, the A250. Mercedes has lost its original idea of using this as an entry point into the brand that you can grow with. It’s now just another expensive car.
@@mr10secondGT Yes, only if you buy an old one like this, the price will be affordable
2nd Gen A Class is a well developed, unique car...current just another boring estate
Yho with that 900 000 get 2 haval or 2 suzuki
Related question… are motoring journalists an endangered species? So many influencers are now sought by car companies as the exposure and pandering are more suited for the marketing department. While I don’t really enjoy the potty mouth or sing a longs I do enjoy the underlying professionalism.
Overpriced, underspecced and poorly built. No excuse for this poor product from this brand. If it had many features to make up for the poor build then maybe fine. But that's not even the case. You get more in a top spec Chinese car at half the price. This brand is the biggest disappointment for me.
100% spot on. Long time everything gone downhill badly.
For R950k there's plenty of options elsewhere, if you want German sedan, the audi A5 or BMW 3/4 series are perfect and wayyyyy better
German cars are overrated.
