    My father, now passed away, gave me a Longines watch he received for 25 years service. It is not running and I should get it cleaned and repaired. Watching repairs on this brand makes me appreciate the detail that went into them. Great video!

    Great restoration. I greatly prefer seeing them brought back to their original condition as much as possible. Not into the relic/patina nonsense. So, beautiful job. The dial came back great. I'd live to see that being done.

      Patina is like Chili: Some is good, but too much spoils it all. The dial in that original condition was far too gone to be appreciated any more.

    Lovely to observe without needless chat. Such a satisfying thing to do - I have learnt a great deal about the mechanics

  • @danieldravot341
    @danieldravot341 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Having a good watchmaker is essential for a collector or speculator.
    I picked up a Speedy Moon chronograph at a yard sale for $50, and it was running well but it had a ding in the bezel. Because Omega used slightly different bezels over the years, we couldn’t source a replacement.
    My mechanic removed the bezel from the watch, and the insert from the bezel. He had his metal guy fill in the steel, remove the excess by laser and refit the original insert. It is now impossible to see where the flaw had been.
    He’s pulled off some things that might’ve been described as impossible, so he is truly an irreplaceable asset . . .

    Very impressive clean and restoration. I love the simple elegance of the watch - it's similar to my 1954 Omega (266 movement), which is one of my favourite designs. You can't beat some vintage designs and this video proves my point.

    • @scdevon
      @scdevon 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm a huge fan of premium time-only movements like these. I've started collecting Omega Seaamaster watches with the 30-T2 based movements like yours. Most of mine are Cal. 286, but they are all very similar and real workhorse movements that you can service yourself quite easily once you've done a few. Great choice!

      Agreed. Longines is such an underrated watch maker, they don’t get the love and attention that some of the big boys do. But their designs back to the 40s and 50s are among the most beautiful of all the Swiss watchmakers.

    Was the case re-plated after the repair?

  • @hockeyrd99
    @hockeyrd99 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice job on that case. Years ago I had a gold filled Universal Geneve bumper with a broken turtle lug. I sent it out to be repaired. They didn't bother to measure the lug width on the good side, so they made it 16mm, while the good side was 18mm! So I sent it back again, and instead of fixing that lug, they broke the other one off and moved it to get back to 18mm! Sheesh! Can't trust anyone to do a good job any more. I have a few dials I wanted to send out, but every time I get one back (no matter who I use) it's not what I asked for.

    I just pent untold hours trying to install the click and spring. I pinged the first one and had to order another from canada. I broke the second one in the process of trying to instal it properly. Again FAIL. I ordered a third spring and now have spent over two hours with your vid, and other help from the Watch Repair Lessons Group and still a fail. I am beside myself. I cannot figure out how the "horse shoe" end of the click spring installs and interacts with the main plate or whatever it interacts with. Does the spring go in first by itself the way every other spring I have done goes? If it does I do not understand how.
