    Cut your tomatoes in half and sprinkle with salt & pepper…so good!

      This is almost certainly harmful advice. I cannot and will not do that. Tomatoes are just not suitable for eating. YUCK!!

    Those sunflower seed heads are huge. I put mesh bags over mine so they can form without the birds taking everything.

      Yeah, I think I may try to grow more of this variety next year - or some other large variety. Too fun! Plus - they will be nice to snack on.

    Just found your channel, awesome garden! I live in the east mountains at 7,200 ft. I usually plant a month later than Alburquerque. Things are looking good so far.

    Howdy there neighbor- I'm a fellow New Mexico gardener. What are you planting this year?

    • @andersonsoutdoors4873
      @andersonsoutdoors4873  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Howdy! We are growing a wad of carrots - 5 varieties to be exact! Beets, sweet and hot peppers, raspberries, figs and goji berries. We have onions, garlic, 2 varieties of beans and a wide variety of herbs. Also some tomatoes and lemon cucumbers. I'd love to hear your plans for your garden!

      It seems to be on and off for me. One year they were huge, last year they were itty bitty. This year they are back to larger size, but not like the 1st year. I guess that is part of the fun of gardening: You never know what is gonna happen. Sometimes it's disappointing and sometimes you get nice surprises. Thanks for watching!

    Hi, I just ran across your site, love it. I just moved to ABQ and want to grow a garden. The house I bought has a huge yard all covered with rock and a layer underneath for weeds. Can anyone tell me if I can just put a raised garden bed on the rock? I also have some concrete, can I put a garden bed on the concrete (concerned about drainage). Anyone? :)

    • @andersonsoutdoors4873
      @andersonsoutdoors4873  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey! Thanks, Mr. Baca. I appreciate it. Raised beds can be put on top of the rock and the weed barrier layer. No problem with that. When I built my raised beds, I raked the rocks out of the way and cut the weed barrier. The only reason I can think of that I would recommend that to you is for the movement of worms in and out of the bed. I would not put the raised bed on concrete as the moisture underneath will cause some issues long term with the concrete. The drainage of water from the bed will run out all over the concrete and stain it pretty bad too. Good luck with the new house and yard and welcome to Albuquerque. Let me know if there is anything else you are wondering about.

    What do you do with that tall red plant?

    • @andersonsoutdoors4873
      @andersonsoutdoors4873  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think you are referring to the amaranth plant. it has a tall, thick stalk, kind of like a sunflower, but instead of producing a disc shaped flower, it produces a cone shaped flower at the top that is actually covered with hundreds and hundreds of little tiny flowers. It produces seed which can be collected And stored. It is a usable food crop. One year I did grow a bunch and collected the seed and added it to my oatmeal in the morning. It is good as a hot breakfast cereal. Lately I’ve just been growing it as a nice addition to the garden.

    How's your garden handling all.of this wind this year?
    Our new garden is pretty exposed and we've lost a lot of our starts due to the wind.

    • @andersonsoutdoors4873
      @andersonsoutdoors4873  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there. Our garden is doing OK, but the wind has definitely been brutal this spring. Some of the peppers we started are struggling to get going, and some of the pepper seeds we Put in the ground have not started to come up yet. Hopefully once things get going and the winds calm down, everything will be better. Hopefully we get some rain this summer.

    What do we do about these tomato worms?

    • @andersonsoutdoors4873
      @andersonsoutdoors4873  ปีที่แล้ว

      We only get a few most years and I'm not too concerned about them. But I do occasionally pull them off and dispatch them.

    do you have to plant on the north side of your land? Is it too hot?

    • @andersonsoutdoors4873
      @andersonsoutdoors4873  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, it's not that hot here. We are in zone 7b, and usually our highest temps are right around 100. My garden is on the west side of my yard.
