A very interesting account of early political struggles in Ghana. Seriously watching this documentary from Kenya, and I find it amazing how Ghana has maintained peaceful transitions despite having had a history of military tensions - 'tis highly commendable.
I was in the classroom with my students at the Arakan Barracks Middle Form 4 early morning prep when the firing begun. Lt Quarshie and WOI Frimpong and Sgt Avah came to my classroom and mount a machine gun on my teacher's table to protect the school and the students. Lt (then) Koomson is telling the facts.
The interesting thing is that he never respond to any of these guys. Instead he cowardly choose to attack and character assassinate people like Mahama and Kuffuor making himself into some type of a saint. This is a man who said president Mills death was a good thing for the NDC party. Ridiculous
Awesome delivery but you forgot to emphasise on who the boys you keep on using in your delivery. For the benefit of those who are not preview to the barracks at the time. 70% of those boys where moulded by the defunct Jnr leaders(boys company) which in my opinion and many who were part or knew the best thing that has ever happened to the Ghana Army. They were exhibited professionalism and discipline and the most feared soldiers by all in the era. I stand to be corrected and can tell the day Rawlings put and end to the Jnr leaders recruitment in Ghana army was a big mistake hence give birth to indiscipline and disregard for authority in the army nowadays.

I am saying who is NDC?Boakye Gyan was number one ☝️ of ordering the killings the three former head of State.When Rawlings was interviewed the killings he said his officers forced him to kill them but no more killings. They are using him as a scapegoat.All former PNDC should be blamed not him alone.Shame on Mahama and his agents who are using this to discredit him.Shame,shame,shame!
Gabriel Karikari I honestly agree with you but it’s very interesting to listen to some of this people. This is one of the officers who oppressed his subordinates and was very arrogant, I won’t say anything further but please try and look for any soldier especially the young ones who served during his time at the 5th Battalion of Infantry. I rest my case.
Is that a military man or an English professor? That flow is on point!!! And man these stories sound like something straight out of an action movie. We need books. We can’t let these old veterans die without recording all these historic events.
I have been following your show a lot. Try find Peter Tasiri and interview him. He might know a lot about the June 4th uprising and the killing of the judges. I learnt he lives in Accra Dansoman area
Peter Tasiri led the executions on june 26th Afrifa,Gen Akuffo and the rest so yes Tasiri is no different from Rawlings he authorized the killing of many people
@Thomas Sankara it's general problem in West Africa. I am a Guinean by birth, and the level of education in the officer corp is horrendous compared to the time my father younger brother was an nco. When they speak French, you feel like your head is about to explode. C'est vraiment lamentable!
These mean that what Rawlings said and what we felt then were true about senior officers; because we used to form a queue to buy a ball of kenkey per a person.

Busia s time Milk was few pesewas - less than sardine which was 11 or 13
So after school they will leave us 13p to go to the store to buy a sardine then some money for kenkey then we fix some pepper sauce for lunch
Breakfast - before you dressed for school you were handed 7 or so pesewas for milk. Before you bring the milk and dress breakfast of porridge will be (presence of milk was something) ready which need to be gulped fast if you wanted to catch a ride in the family car which left for Accra in the mornings or walk a few miles.
Less than 5 days or so after Busia was overthrown one guy took me to Makola and infront of a grocery table at Makola sat a woman- not one milk or any can was displayed. The adult who took me asked the price of milk. She said she did not have some but if he gave her © 2.00 - cedis her friend had some. 5 tins for 2 cedis. The adult heaved a minimally loud sigh of relief.
As a boy who use to run to get the milk or sardine, I felt inwardly that the prices were (then the new word) exhorbitant.
