- I realized I never made a video on the basics of buying a project bike and going over the things I always call the "basics". This is a more update to date more informational video of one I did previously.

TH-cam is the first stop, especially for bikes pre '70s. Allows you to check what are common problems with bikes of that age and if they are repairable without major engineering work.
My number 1 before even leaving home to look at a project bike .... can I get parts for it? Seen so many projects fail because a vital part that is needed is no longer available! Especially true for obscure bikes and some older Japanese stuff. Rather than taking a battery with you that may or may not fit I use a pocket size jump pack, £30 from Amazon or eBay, works a treat on any size engine!
With a battery you can bring jumper cables which is what I do. But that’s also another option.
I bought an old Yamaha XS650 as a project bike. I really wish I had your videos back then. I learned a lot, doing that project. The main things I learned; never buy a bike without a clean title and double your budget.
For me if I see a bike without a title I always assume take around 20% off the price if it had one. That’s usually what it costs to get one. Now it’s harder to get papers but if you have a clean vin you can get one but it will take 5 years for it to be clean.
Is the tank rusty is the first thing
Definitely one of the first and biggest.
any doubts bail out, there will always be another deal
