    It’s just a granny gear, I must be getting old if people find that amusing, then again manuals aren’t common in the US anymore.

    • @jiachenchristianxu965
      @jiachenchristianxu965 ปีที่แล้ว

      Real drivers only drive manual. Americans on average are the worst drivers in the world in terms of driving skills.

      Agreed! Also, pulling up on the collar, reminds me of a split shift transmission.

      New cars don't have granny gears anymore that's why it's so interesting.

    So crawl is what you use for walking next to it while your loading hay.

    No it was the fact that back in the day on the tranny stick, there was a L instead of a C. It's not new, it's not the craziest transmission ever. They literally had the same thing in trucks from the 80s.

    • @thecamdenyard
      @thecamdenyard 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      The 80’s… I’m pretty sure the granny low or “L” was in use way back when manual trans weren’t even synchronized… early 1900’s

    Must have a super low gear when you're in crawl and for low

  • @BrandonWhipp

  • @BrownBomber92181
    @BrownBomber92181 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Its nothing new, just hasn't been used in a few years. Its called a compound gear, Ford had one in the ZF-6 trans that was in the early model super dutys

    • @5.43v
      @5.43v 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The ZF6 was offered all the way up into the 2010 super duty so I wouldn't say that's early model super duties

    That would be a nice feature at the boat landing, put it in 4 low, crawl gear to slowly pull a boat out of the water without stress on your drivetrain, even in 4-High would be pretty stress-free I'm sure, I haven't driven one yet

    • @tumadre50
      @tumadre50 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      When you are in 4L in the crawl geer it's about 1 mph for every 1k rpm. That would be sweet at the boat ramp. Even with 4H it would be nice. I've heard some Bronco owners call it the traffic or drive thru gear. Honestly this crawler gear solves one of the biggest gripes people have for manuals.

    Crawl gear lets you creep forward slowly in tight spots. Great for driving across rocks. There also are just times when you want to creep forward slowly. Not to mention it's also used to slowly and safely descend a grade, especially back when vehicles didn't have the best brakes. Back in the day, most cars had four wheel drums-not an ideal setup. There was a time when a manual was as important a tool for driving as were the brakes and throttle.

      Consider that as a cheap theft deterrent. If they can't drive it, they can't steal it!mMy truck would have giant stickers all over it say things along the lines of "I (heart) my MANUAL TRANSMISSION!" etc. LOL

    putting r next to 1st is stupid

    • @photogra4
      @photogra4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's not bad at all, you have to really pull it to the left to get it in reverse (like years go), it almost resists you to put it into R! But with normal driving it naturally falls right to the correct slot for 1st gear. I've owned several manuals over the decades and even semi trucks, and never mistakenly put it in reverse.

    • @starbound03
      @starbound03 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I daily a Tacoma with the same configuration, minus the crawl gear of course, and without the collar to pull like this one, just gotta slam to the left and go up for reverse. I was concerned when I saw the pattern the first time (first 6-speed I ever drove) but it's really never been an issue at all. Can't really accidentally go into reverse.
