I bought an SSL 2+ late last year and it's been a really impressive interface thus far, but have to give a nod to Audient, their new MKII offerings of the iD4 and iD14 are superb. Great pres, DI, conversion, etc, it sounds really phenomenal, and while I realize gear aesthetics is subjective and not all that important to some, I find them both beautiful and well designed; simple, elegant, clean lines and colors, and also love the new simpler font. Geez, now I'm tempted to get myself an iD14 ha! Oh and this channel is brilliant, thanks for all the love you bring to the community, Warren.

When I bought my budget interface, the Audient wasn't around yet or at least I hadn't heard of it. If I were to buy one nowadays, I would definitely go Audient. Great sound quality.

I have iD4 mk1 with 440 Pure (your videos convinced me to buy it). Really happy with both! I'm going to upgrade someday to iD14 MK2, mainly for talkback feature. Great gear for reasonable price.

I have Audient ID14, MK1. It is a great little interface. It has 2 inputs, and a DI that works nicely for guitar and bass. It can be expanded to 10 inputs.
Love this! The improvement is the loop back feature which is huge! Almost removes the need for something like soundflower or Loopback from Rogue Amoeba! Loved the input from Julian Krause… super nerdy but enough to be hugely interesting and informative. Good song.. , Steve is a damn fine singer and you cannot underestimate the opportunity to work on music from players like Blair and Mr Huart himself! Thanks for a great share. 🎛🎤🎵
I've not gotten to use anything from Audient, it looks like so much fun though! I love my Apollo's with their real-time plug-in use and monitoring, so it's been hard to try anything else after dealing with cheap gear for so many years. Great video as always Warren and PLAP!
I have a MOTO M4. I absolutely love it. It's my recommendation. 4 inputs and 2 of them bypass the built in mic preamps should one want to use their own. Great metering and best specks in its class.

Great video! Seeing the MKII version of its brother, the iD14, I'm tempted to get one after I accidentally plugged my BLA Auteur MKII's adapter to it and burned it. Staring at a brand new $300 paperweight hurts so much even two years later, ha-ha! It sounded so good and clean, and the headphone output was impressive with its very dimensional, layered sound presentation. I read the new one is even better.

Again a Fantastic review of kit the average layman can get access to. Warren Quick Question....Do you have Steve Installed under the desk with Blair & Ross Mix's so when a Piece of kit turns up he just 'pops' out another Fantastic Vocal & Keys along with Blairs fantastic Drums and your Superb Guitars LOL. Seriously another fantastic review and so kind with the multitrack's.
Invest a little more, get sometinhg expandable instead (eg the Audient iD14 MKII): sooner or later just one mic input will limit almost everybody's creativity. Sound quality of the new audient line seems great.
The daughter wants to record and compose a bit more often. This will be my recommendation, based on not just your review, but a whole stack of positive ones. I'd only go for the next bigger Audient id14 if there's a chance she'd be recording more than one signal at a time, and she wasn't already scoffing at the cost of this one. She'll never know how lucky she is having access to this unit at her age(20s). I think the first recording I did were on an ADAT and a Sony 24-track, none of which I bloody paid for :), but she's paying for this herself.
As I understand it, the MKii revisions were for bringing the lower input interfaces up to the same level of flexibility, quality, and connectivity as the ID44. But who knows? Maybe some of the other improvements can still be done to that one
The Zen is a lot more and comes with additional features etc. So it's very much price dependent. If it's JUST on conversion then the Audient hits far above it's weight!
I thought ID14 is a much better choice over the ID4. Very little extra money, but the ADAT in and 2 mic pre's. If you buy a ID4, you will outgrow it quickly and then feel like u wasted ur money. I would at a min recommend a ID14, can't see how one wouldn't want to stereo mic up stuff every now and then.
What should i choose? The price here in Sweden is 15 dollar between EVO 4 and ID4 Mkii (more expensive). - I have Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro 250Ohm headphones, AKG D5 microphone and Edifier 1855DB speakers. I want the device to drive them all for gaming, listening to music and watching videos. - I want to switch audio source between Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro and Edifier 1855DB easy, which one is the best for that? - I want to drive my AKG D5 microphone to a good level without having to go 90-100 % gain. - Can you mute/unmute microphone quickly on iD4 Mkii? Hey Warren, I have a rather elaborate question. How to start with a small recording studio? Ik have enough gear to record a small band and an interface with more than enough pre's. The thing is.. the pre's are the same quality as any other interface most people have. How do I differentiate myself from what people do at home, and especially to charge them to be able to invest in better material. Do I need to invest in a few really good pre's first so I can offer them something they don't have, or do I just work my ass off to prove I can do it better than they can? I'm guessing it's a combination of the two, but I'd love to hear your opinion. Thank you for answering and for all your videos. I've learnt so much from your channel! Kind regards Jonathan
I think these are great, but I think the Audient EVO series is even better value. They're so dang inexpensive, and the EVO 8 has 4 mic inputs with plenty of outputs for only $199. The only drawback is that you don't have physical controls for input gain, but I actually prefer that, since it means I can set them from the DAW easily.
@ 09:30 - 09:55 - Oh dear, my Presonus Audiobox comes in near the bottom of both of these lists.....but in reality my Audiobox is the iTwo version and isn't even as good as the 96, so really my Audiobox iTwo is lower than a sausage dog's bollocks 😳 I think this is why I always get pops & clicks & unexplained noises which makes my home recording such a drag and ultimately saps my creativity. I can't moan too much as my Presonus studio bundle was a birthday present from my missus a few years ago and I wouldn't want to hurt her feelings. The headphones & mic from that bundle are pretty useable, and it got me onto Studio One, which I like, it's just the bloody interface that isn't much cop. It looks like I'll have to have a try at winning the prize giveaway, but even though my name is Jammy Git, I'm not very lucky at all....in fact I chose that name in irony 😆👍

Would it be possible to test the Direct Guitar Input of these interfaces and compare them? Noticed Audient sounds quite different and response is different compared to other interfaces using DI Input.
That was great! Love the song as well :) One question, what was the rolled-up rag on the hi-hat for? Was it to cut down on the transients that are really harsh or is it for weight to keep the hats down easier for tracking?

Well, I know the Audient products are quite expensive. But I never had one, so I can’t say anything about the quality. Of course I’d like an Audient interface. Perhaps I can win this one. 😉

How do I differentiate myself from what people do at home, and especially to charge them to be able to invest in better material.
Do I need to invest in a few really good pre's first so I can offer them something they don't have, or do I just work my ass off to prove I can do it better than they can? I'm guessing it's a combination of the two, but I'd love to hear your opinion.

I think these are great, but I think the Audient EVO series is even better value. They're so dang inexpensive, and the EVO 8 has 4 mic inputs with plenty of outputs for only $199. The only drawback is that you don't have physical controls for input gain, but I actually prefer that, since it means I can set them from the DAW easily.
@ 09:30 - 09:55 - Oh dear, my Presonus Audiobox comes in near the bottom of both of these lists.....but in reality my Audiobox is the iTwo version and isn't even as good as the 96, so really my Audiobox iTwo is lower than a sausage dog's bollocks 😳
I think this is why I always get pops & clicks & unexplained noises which makes my home recording such a drag and ultimately saps my creativity.
I can't moan too much as my Presonus studio bundle was a birthday present from my missus a few years ago and I wouldn't want to hurt her feelings.
The headphones & mic from that bundle are pretty useable, and it got me onto Studio One, which I like, it's just the bloody interface that isn't much cop.
It looks like I'll have to have a try at winning the prize giveaway, but even though my name is Jammy Git, I'm not very lucky at all....in fact I chose that name in irony 😆👍

I have bought Audient id14 mkii, yesterday. No doubt it's very good interface, but my new id14 release so much HEAT , so what should I do sir please tell me ?
Any word about cons? I think for some of us - no independent headphone volume can be a downside

Would it be possible to test the Direct Guitar Input of these interfaces and compare them? Noticed Audient sounds quite different and response is different compared to other interfaces using DI Input.

That was great! Love the song as well :) One question, what was the rolled-up rag on the hi-hat for? Was it to cut down on the transients that are really harsh or is it for weight to keep the hats down easier for tracking?
Exactly! When I’m tracking with one Mic I’m doing little things like that to control excessive high end

Well, I know the Audient products are quite expensive. But I never had one, so I can’t say anything about the quality. Of course I’d like an Audient interface. Perhaps I can win this one. 😉

@@Producelikeapro sorry for arousing misunderstanding. Quite expensive shouldn’t mean that that these interfaces are not worth their price. A Mercedes is also expensive, but it’s worth the price! 😅
