Do we really need to pay hundreds and HUNDREDS for a good audio interface???
For good clean recordings, I don't think so anymore. Honestly, $200-$300 is the magic price point. I think if you want built in DSP and use of realtime plugins with UAD and Antelope Audio, then you gotta hit that $500+ price point to get in.

Id44 sounds much fuller smoother and balanced, id4 is brighter and harsher for my taste.
Thanks for this. I was planning to wait for the iD44 mk2, but I realized that I don't need the other features. I'll go for the iD14 instead, since I need two xlr inputs. Love your content bro.
I have both of these devices. I first purchased the ID14 MK2 but then wanted to connect external preamps through the ID44‘s return input and bypass the pres So I purchased the ID44 just recently and the preamp and conversion are way better, I mean way way better. The recordings are louder, smoother, more polished and the dynamic range is superior. The sound stage feels bigger and wider. This was surprising because While recording I didn’t feel this was the case because the headphone amp on the ID44 is low and I was thinking this would translate into my recordings. But this was not the case. The downside of the ID44 is the headphone amplifier is pretty much garbage. Yes the headphone amplifier on the ID14 is louder but this doesn’t translate into the same sound in the final recording on playback. So I purchased an external art pro headphone amp and now my ID44 sounds better than the ID14. The converters are night and day difference on the ID44.

@@gustavodinis id14mii headphone jacks are louder but the id44 overall has smoother sound and wider Soundstage compared to the harsher id14 mkii. Id14 mkii would be a top entry level interface and the id44 would be a Top tier middle level interface with a low professional sound like a crappy kid version of Universal Audio Apollo Twin X DUO Thunderbolt 3 Audio Interface the best in mid range audio interface but comes up short compared to RME and Apogee
How are the preamps compared from the id22 vs the id14mkii?
I have the old ID4 and I used the id4 mkii and I sorta hate how the new mkii preamps sound…. They sound thin with no “juice” to them , curious as to what the old id44’s preamps sound to your id14 mkii
I purchased the id14 mkii when it dropped and in the $300ish price range, it's hard to think you can get much better than this. Only devices that were competitors were the Motu M series and SSL 2 series. Audient has a winner with these. Headphone amp is legit, preamps are quiet and work excellently, iD mixer makes routing so easy. It's hard to find fault unless you want built in DSP really.
My Audient Mk1 has served me well for 5 years or so now. With a Fethead it has been easy to deal with my SM7B.

Thabks for the review. As far as I'm aware the preamp should be identical and the id44 has better ad convertor, so it seems like the weakest link is probably the headphone amplifier. Wonder if it was the same when monitoring through headphones? Wonder if the gain knobs rotate the same amount?
I've been looking at potentially upgrading to the id44, im currently running a ur28m which has so much flexibility its difficult to say good bye to. No interfaces these days have a 3.5mm line in (2 track) any more or multi monitor controls.
I have an original ID22. It became unusable after having some static issues. I decided to test drive the newer Mk2 models . After auditioning them, I missed the sound of the ID22, especially its Burr Brown A/D conversion and headphone output. I repaired it myself (small capacitor issue) and now it's back in my studio. I honestly think it still sounds better than the newer Audients... my 2 cents. 🙂
Mine went out today after the static issue… the lights turn on like its working but no sound at all. So it might be the capacitor? Also, do you know if i buy a new id22 will it sound the same as the old id22? Thanks.

Do they sound the same regarding vocal recording? All i need it is vocal recording i don’t need the extra inputs/output but willing to get the id22 if the mk2 wont reach id22 recording quality.

@@baleDELgavilan713 I think either would be good for that application. From what I remember they both use the same Audient console mic pres. It was in the audio playback where the ID22 sounded a bit more analog.
I have an EVO 4 and I love the preamps. It would be interesting to see you do a comparison to the ID4.

I would say the ID44mkII has better clarity in the mid to upper midrange and i'm listening on Alesis M1 Active mkII monitors which are widely regarded as great monitors for their price. They're older but still great and a professional recording studio told me exactly that years ago when they asked what monitors I had.
It depends: mic up an guitar may need 2 - 4 Mics. Or an other accoustic instrument, drumset ect. Also, the 2 primary preamps have abilities: return and send, meaning you can add stuff like analouge compressors. Also, they should have some added analouge warm to them. So it depends, if you are a beginner bedroom producer who works mostly digital and dont do live recording the cheaper one is probably right. If you do though, you need those extra preamps.

For what you do is better the id4 with a preamp with compressor and eq. The id44 is a studio recording interface with inserts, adat, two line outs, talkbox, high pass filter, etc... and better a/d and d/a that are very important for mixing multiple sound sources together.
I sure like the idea of having inserts to add analog compression and possibly a little EQ.

Hey! Can the AUDIENT iD14 mkii be sufficient enough to power the NEUMAN 103 at an optimal level?
If it power a shure SM7b just fine, I would guess yes!
tlm 103 takes 48v phantom power from the interface so this isn't a problem. i have the tlm 103 running through an iD4

@@myst23-h6l tlm 103 is the cleanest mic i've ever used. can get harsh on sibilance easily if belting/doing loud vocals. a de-esser isn't enough and i have to automate volume on s sounds a lot. it's worth putting up with for the detail and midrage smoothness, but i'll get a different mic soon that handles sibilance better. listen to the stuff on my channel, if your music is anything like mine i wouldn't recommend it. only reason to get an apollo is if you wanna buy their plugins, imo they're too expensive and i don't need them anyway. audient is the best at this price point and i tried a ton of different brands. hope this helps

@@IsmaelTejadaTV volví a comprar una ID14 porque me encanta la primera versión y es la que uso actualmente. Tuve una Focusrite Scarlet solo y la diferencia es grande para mi. La ID14 es muy buena me encanta . Saludos

@@IsmaelTejadaTV ahora estoy con la ID14. Y de esa saltaré cuando pueda a la id44 . Nunca probé la Id22 pero si puedo hablarte sobre la ID14 tiene converters burr brown (al menos la primera versión) y son excelentes. Tengo entendido que de la 22 en adelante tiene akm . Todo depende de tu gusto igual hay muchísimos test que puedes ver y sacar tus conclusiones. Un abrazo desde 🇺🇾 uruguay

I just bought the ID44 Mk2 for $400 due to a Sweetwater sale on a demo unit that was already on sale...idk how that works...but Sweetwater just sent me the product confirmation so....yay me! I just feel like I just stole something from Sweetwater due to a glitch in their system, but thats not my problem...
Sure $300 for the ID14 seems fine...but $100 more for the ID44? I have never had something sit around for less time in the shopping cart...
