    Warren! I think this is one of your Best videos to date. It combined the technical with the BTS of an actual session in a way that often gets lost.
    To my mind, the Producer's (and Director's in film) primary jobs are to get a Performance out of the performers, and Capture that performance with the crew.
    I know this was primarily a "product video", and I think Audient is consistently the best value for dollars on offer in every gear shootout (I own an Audient ASP2802. I wish/hope they bring it back.) And my main takeaway was that these Audient Pres do what all the previous Audient Pres do, even better. Which is get out of the way!
    Then the emphasis is on the Performance, the Room, the Performers Placement within the room, the Mic choices, the Mic Placement, auto level, and Record.
    Is that about right?
    With the tech out of the way you can focus on the performance, Knowing that whatever you come up with will be pristinely captured.

There are options, some fairly expensive. This seems like a no brainer for my setup. Great video Warren -- the song and performance was great and the unmixed results fantastic. Nest Recorders -- just an awesome looking studio (watched the previous video you did there with the studio run down) with tons of vibe and Chris is great. Thanks again.

    Fantastic! Just goes to show (again), that it's crucial to get it right at the source:
    1: write a great song
    2: learn to play well
    3: use good (sounding) instruments in a not to echoey room
    Then you're basically set.
    Maybe 4: do not use the cheapest mics you can find, but an SM58 will go a long way.

    Great video, especially the production part. I keep hearing electric guitar sounds like that recently. Not exactly that, but that kind of vibe. Marc Neilson has that sort of vibe on his into video's, and there's a rather brutal (but super cool) sound like this on Beth Rowley's Howl at the Moon. What's the pedal chain used here, what was the Fender amp and was there reverb on the amp?

  • @aleksamrkela831

    The most awesome thing is that you can connect two SP8s to an EVO16 for a total of 24 inputs! That's even fancier. :D This also strikes me as a great setup for connecting analog hardware in a mixing setup.

  • @efnerva664
    @efnerva664 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This is such a great addition to the Evo line. Instead of having to replace your existing interface, you can just expand it. It is especially nice as you also get extra outputs, which are often even more scarce than inputs. Great for monitoring and hybrid mixing scenarios.
    I wonder if you can daisy-chain multiple of these?

    • @weareevoaudio
      @weareevoaudio ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the love Ef Nerva! Our thoughts exactly. You can indeed hook up your interface with multiple SP8's as long as your interface contains the right amount of ADAT in's and out's. For example the EVO 16 has two ADAT in's and outs so you can enjoy the the total channel count of 24ins and 24outs :)

    I really like what Audient is doing with this EVO series. I wish they would make a EVO SP32 with only line In/Out (maybe in DB25 to directly connect to a patchbay, or outboard gear, or synths, etc…). It would be good to expand your setup with an EVO 16 with an EVO SP32 to have more line I/O. I hope Audient is reading ;)

      @@weareevoaudio Awesome! I would love to stack an EVO 16 with a SP8 to have 16 Pres, and then add a SP16 or SP32 to have more Line In/Out (without Pre), just to connect more hardware such Synths, Outboard gear and such. So far, only brands such UA, Antelope and such are doing that kind of system, but they're expensive for new musicians. Audient is the perfect choice for good quality at a very friendly price tag for home studios (which are the future of music now). I always loved Audient, I did built a studio in a music school in Canada (GRPC) recommending them to purchase three Audient Zen. Hi warren, Thanks for you great review of the product , as ever... Just a question though....Are that pres able to handle and preserve enough headroom if used with pro channel Strip (with transformers and +4db output) Neve 1081, Focusrite ISA115, Studer 169 etc ? I've been using some Focusrite Scarletts , running signal from the ISA 215 or studer 169 would oblige to set the outputs very low (and even the gain of the external pre) , and the gain on the Scarlett at minimum for no problems . Will the range of pres on the EVO SP8 preserve enough headroom so we can use the external pre in their full potential (crunchy bite) ? Thanks again :) and take care.

    Great video! I must add though that the Behringer UMC 1820 (with midas pres) for $388 Canadian coupled with the Behringer ADA 8200 (with midas pres) for $329 Canadian, is still the cheapest way I know of to get 16 channels of interface up and running. Total of 18 in's and 20 out's for just over 700 Canadian.

    So pretty much record a Roland set and guitar for basic track which uses more than standard 8 tracks into a standard 8 input presonus fire studio with FireWire and legacy drivers, which leaves us short if we want to go vocals for a live feel. So your saying by obtaining the 16 and the 8 we could have 16 channels live onto pro tools with almost zero latency ?

    This is a pretty solid QPR piece of gear 😉👍
    I'm wondering about a few things..........Is the EVO SP8 a stand alone interface?, or does it need the EVO 16 to function?. I wasn't clear on that?. They both look to be the same thing?, but the EVO 16 is $50 more...........Also, I'm wondering is it possible to plug in external pres to the line inputs?. I tried doing that with my Behringer UMC 1820 (the Behringer equivalent to the EVO). When I tried plugging my lunchbox into the line in points, it never really worked well.
    I'm recommending this new EVO to a friend of mine that started with the EVO4.

    • @weareevoaudio
      @weareevoaudio ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey John, thank you for your question. I can confirm that they are two different products. The EVO SP8 is a Mic Preamp - 'Expander' and can be connected to ANY interface with an ADAT input not just the EVO 16. The EVO 16 is designed to be a Host interface rather that an ADAT expander so the audio routing does get a but tricky when used away from a computer. The EVO SP8 would be the ideal product for this setup instead as it has all the audio routing taken care of to be a standalone unit.
      Yes, you can plug external pre-amps into the Line inputs of the SP8. This will still pass through the SP8's pre-amps but provided you keep the gain of the SP8 at minimum, you'll get no additional noise or colouration added by the SP8 since the EVO pre-amp is so quiet and clean. If you are looking for more information do check out the EVO SP8 videos on our channel.
      Hope this is helpful ☺
