    I used to work with her at Acre. Interestingly it was my time at Acre that inspired me to start my own journey into becoming a safety professional.
    Highly recommend for people to check out Kendell’s work as she always has interesting contributions towards the culture of safety.

    I’m an undergrad in Industrial Engineering and will soon receive my degree in about a year and a half. My curriculum involves some courses that teach about health and safety. I’m now contemplating applying to a graduate school to get into a program where I’ll get a master’s in Health and Safety Engineering.
    I have the opportunity of getting a Health and Safety job with just my industrial engineering degree, but a master’s could give me a bit of an edge, so I still have to determine if it’s worth it.

    Looking at doing NEBOSH general cert, what else or what other qualifications would you reccommend to do after the general cert?

    • @RebrandingSafety

  • @johngamble7994

    It’s not an easy profession to get in to. From my own experience businesses seem to want the qualification more than the person. I’m not saying that this is the same for everyone, but it makes it tough for people wanting to get in to a H&S career.. Sometimes a little luck can help too!

      Oh I agree with you 100% as a field we are horrendous at this. The focus on a certificate is so over powering that I feel there is alot of talent out there being left behind!
      we have raised this with IOSH, IIRSM and we talk about it on the podcast alot!!

    • @johngamble7994

      Rebranding Safety I’m glad that you agree, I think that it can leave people feeling deflated, especially if they cannot afford to fund their own studies. If someone sees a spark in an individual, then I think they should be nurtured and get good hands on experience- which I think is more valuable (For me anyway)
      It’s good to know that IOSH are aware of this. I hope that it gets filtered out in to industry too! 👊🏻

      Its never to late buddy, if you think its somthing that you want to do.
      Don't get me wrong, doing the best version of safety heavily depends on the employer, the type of works etc, but if you find a line of work you like, the right employer etc its a great job!

      @@pushkarkumar2118 Well, I would begin to see if your current qualifications - match with Australia standard - if not I would suggest getting Australian WHS quantification's and maybe you can get some credit transfers for previous work or experience. Once you have done that, and you have gain those quantification's then start applying for places. From there its pretty self explanatory.

    Great video. Considering a career change to H&S and this is the first video I've watched and I'm pleased I did. The cool guy at the end sold it to me, as an F1 lover myself.
    How do I get involved? I have no clue where to start or what to do, so any help would be most appreciated. Great video and thanks.

    • @RebrandingSafety
      @RebrandingSafety  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We are starting to see loads of apprenticeships for HSE professionals pop up so keep your eye out for those they are a very affective way to start.
      A level 3 qualification like NEBOSH General cert a NVQ or NCRQ are essentially gateway qualifications.
      Try to build up some experience in H&S, volunteer to be the H&S rep at work for example. Or volunteer to be the H&S person for your local sports club or somthing like that.
      Finally, I would look at getting in to the IOSH or IIRSM membership it can give you a insight into the profession, you could then get on their mentoring schemes as well.
      I hope that helps.

I'll be sure to carry on watching your content!

    Is it only an extrovert-based Job ?

    • @RebrandingSafety
      @RebrandingSafety  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's a great question! I personally think that whilst I am obviously an extrovert (🤣) there are many qualities an introvert could bring. However, I am of the strong opinion that to be effective in this profession you need to be able to engage with people and build relationships with them. Additionally, it's very common for Safety Pro's to be asked to develop training, chair meetings, present to the board etc. So in answer to your question I personally think an introvert would have challenges in the profession, yes. But that doesn't mean it can't be done, I suspect there are many successful introverts in the profession.

    • @jjs3287
      @jjs3287 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RebrandingSafety I completely agree. You will certainly need to be confident although that often comes with experience. You also need to be prepared to stand by potentially unpopular decisions and you need to remember that whilst you will only be doing your job, you will not always be appreciated. I have seen the role change over the years and nowadays it does seem to be more about taking the lead to drive changes within organisations rather than simply going out to sites to check that the basics are in place. So yes, you will need to be reasonably confident or find a way to appear so - I use a kind of method acting, sounds strange but it works.

Is there a maximum age for entry to the industry and i have a degree in health and social care, would this degree be of benefit in any way ?.
