He of course hated the abusive Friars but not all of them. Did he made friends with any priest or fiar? He made friends with a Jesuit priest while in exile on Laguna. I believe he helped Rizal with his lost belief and was successful in bringing back his Catholic faith. So, Rizal did not hate the Church. He even wrote a letter saying how beautiful Catholicism is and that should be realized by our Protestant brothers. As an artist Rizal created religious images such as Paul the Hermit and an image of Jesus. Did he died a Catholic? YES! In fact during his last days in his cell he had two important companion: 1. S Black Rosary and 2. The Imitation of Christ book. Also he wrote his RETRACTION. Initially two bishops talked to him. One wrote a Retraction but Rizal find it way too long. So he wrote another one. After that he received his final Confession then Attend his Final Mass and Received for the last time (as I call it) the Flesh of God (the Holy Eucharist). Aside from those, on his right hand hangs a Rosary. He had it during his walk towards the Bagumbayan [where people were being executed] (now Luneta Park), during the Execution where he for the last time shouted his famous last words -"Consumatum est" (it is done). One proof that the Catholic Church has nothing to do with that was Letter that the officer of the execution officer (whatever his title was) reads: "In the name of the Ling of Spain..." So it is now clear (whoever reads this) that Jose Rizal (so as the GOMBURZA priests (even Tyndale)) was silenced [NOT] by the Church Jose Rizal loved, the Faith his beloved Mother taught but by the Government. He had his chance to win the battle BUT the plan had been already in place. They wanted to silence this man. Keep in mind that the last hero in Noli was a Catholic Priest. @@jaytamayo4694 lemme summarize some of what I learned from my teacher , Rizal is a religious man he believes and fears God, but what he doesn't like is the one who Speaks the word of God (The Prayle or Priest) becuase they were so abusive back then Prayle's can be the cop, the judge and the executioner back then, they were a menace and have a lot of Power over the Filipinos also it was worth noting that, Rizal always prioritize the Bible over other books, it was said that whenever he writes he stacks the Bible at the top of all the books beneath it.
